I am really excited for this game. I love the world they built in DA:0 and the music is phenomenal. DA:2 left me sour and didn't have the same feel as Origins. It really looks like they are recapturing the magic and maybe even improving it. Time will tell but they are taking the right steps so far.

Probably because that's not an honorific. If you were Doctor, they'd be calling you doctor. If you were a colonel, they'd be calling you colonel.

No they'd call me Dr X or Colonel Y, and my friends sure as hell wouldn't call me by my job description, so that shit really doesn't fly (in fact it's served in a bucket with french fries).

So your love interest in your most personal and intimate moments together calls you by your last name?

It's not ideal, but better than 'take me to pleasure mountain Traffic warden' or 'Prepare to enter a world of pain Ships Captain'

@AarynFlynn Thanks everyone. Because you're the best fans, here's a new pre-alpha PC screenshot of Dragon Age: Inquisition

My level of hype for this game AND Witcher 3 is monumental. I don't really think there's any way either could live up to what I'm expecting, but I suppose with Bioware and CD Projekt the odds are more in favor of good things being produced than total disasters.

Serioulsy though ever since I watched that ~30min DA:I gameplay demo that was leaked from PAX or whatever on YouTube I've been stoked.

It may be the alpha thing but this new screenshot does nothing for me. DAI still looks like a PS360 game coming out a year after the launch of PS4/XBO.
Still hoping that the game will be good though.

it actually looks about the texture quality of pc DA2 but with more colors

Finished DA2 over the weekend. Not as bad as GAF says but still a step down from DA:O.

Hyped for DA:I but the keep business sounds strange.

Elaborate.

He's talking about the Jennifer Helper controversy. The below image sums up the initial attacks which resulted in a media war. But in essence the Bioware community and Reddit attacked one of the writers on DA:II because she admitted to not liking gameplay sections in games, at which point she was subsequently ridiculed, called names, made fun of for being fat and unattractive, etc. It culminated at one point with Aaryn Flyyn GM of BioWare telling someone to "Fuck off" on twitter.

She has since quit I believe.

Oh I know what he was referring to, I'm just wondering why he brought it up.

I don't condone the abuse that she suffered, but if this is actually what she said then I can see why people got fired up - her statement is fucking ridiculous!

They almost did try that in Mass Effect 3's easiest combat mode. You don't get to skip the combat, but the enemies do so little damage you may as well be able to.

Good to hear each platform's getting special treatment.

That's like the standard PR stance about multiplatforms right now.
Can't say I find it particularly "good to hear" (as "reassuring") considering that's what they were going to say regardless of the truth.

Yarr. Doesn't seem to hold a candle to Witcher 3. Or even Kingdom Come, for that matter.

Besides indicating the linearity of the area design, there's something weird about the geometry in these pictures.

Based on these pictures, it seems like they are still working with the same engine restrictions. But, if I remember correctly, the gameplay demo wasn't like that at all, and made it seem like it was made on a different engine. Was that gameplay preview made on a different engine just for showing off what the game might look like, or something like that? Or did the gameplay preview actually look like the pictures?

How is it ridiculous? Does it affect you in any way at all? By allowing it, you allow your game to be enjoyed by a much wider audience (people who love the story but aren't good at playing games).

I don't care about the graphics I care about the gameplay and story, neither DA:O or DA:II were striking visually the same goes for the majority of ME games. I can honestly say right now I'm more hyped for Inquisition that TW3. I know this may sound like batshit retardness to GAF but I enjoyed DA2 way more than TW2.

Yes, DAII has tons of problems and is nowhere near as ambitious and massive as Origins but I still found it more enjoyable to play than TW2. The main storyline may be crap but all the characters (for the most part, I'm looking at you Anders) are written exceptionally well and the witty banter between party members is a delight. Meanwhile I found The Witcher often a chore to play, I practically forced myself to finish it a second time to see the different locations and endings. The main story is pretty fresh and original offering a breadth of choice with often immediate consequences, and the main arc subverts the hero's journey in replace of a more GoT style tale. However, I often found the characters bland and uninteresting, especially Geralt who almost seems to have zero personality at times, and I often thought the game tried to make itself seem to serious at times. You know like a teenager who feels that something is mature if it has lots of cursing, sex, and violence.

I'm still very much interested in TW3 but I'm actually genuinely hyped for Inquisition based on what I've seen and read and the game will essentially gauge whether or not BioWare can redeem itself after the missteps of DA2 and the abysmal ending of ME3.

Well, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's a normal human being that's not straight up lying lol.

How do those pictures indicate linearity at all? The game's running in Frostbite, always has.

And I'm going to weight this as an equivalent of "We are putting the same care on all platforms": something everyone says to not piss off any fanbase, regardless of the results often proving otherwise.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

They're using Frostbite, the engine works on all the platforms. They're most probably just making the one main build and scaling it down to each console specs instead of spending individual time on all separate SKU's -_-

Kinda. Completely skipping every fight would indeed be ridiculous, but a super easy mode that makes you basically invincible, like they had in Mass Effect 3, is perfectly fine by me.
Some people really don't care about the challenge but they might enjoy the story and character interactions. There's no good reason to exclude them completely.

Games just need to have cheat codes brought back. Problem solved.

I'm not a huge DA2 fan but seriously, best party in an RPG ever. The relationships are just too perfect, fantastic blend of funny, dramatic and heart warming. Specifically Isabella x Aveline and Isabella x Merrill, in fact you know what? Isabelal x and everyone.

If they can combine that, with a large world, good main story and great combat, then Buenos.

Well you could direct them to fanfiction.net considering their standards. I wish I was joking, some stuff on there is probably genuinely better.
I'm a bad person, I actually liked Dragon Age 2 and am excited for the third game...
Nah, there's nothing wrong with enjoying DA2. Even though it's a sup bar game, it's still has it's moments (mostly the Qunari stuff). Just don't try to convince me it was a quality experience.

I see nothing wrong with that and it would actually be a great idea. I'm so sick of mandatory combat.
Well you have the adventure and visual novel genre to cater to your needs. Wanting no combat in a game with abysmal writing for the most part, just seems disingenuous.

I liked the graphics of the first Dragon Age game. I remember it being quite good for its time. But then they did the unexpected... release a sequel with inferior graphics to the first game.

Dragon Age II might not be as bad as some people say, but it was still... bad. The Dragon Age franchise went from one of my favourite new IPs to one of the most tragic RPG stories of last gen for me.

Still, I am very excited for DA:I. I truly hope it will be enjoyable. I don't *think* we will have to complain about graphics. It's no Witcher 3, but I love the colors and scale of the world. Can't wait to see more.

They're not the only games with a story.
Sure, but the other games tend to not have good story by themselves. Or the narrative experience is connected to the gameplay. Things like story pacing and such take into account the gameplay pacing as well.

You always have youtube I guess.

I completely agree, it makes a lot of sense, and would indeed make games more approachable as she is suggesting.

If you strip the game out of the game, of course it's more approachable. If you just show people the cutscenes on a big screen, well, that's as approachable as hell. This does not mean this is a good idea. There are a thousand ways you can make it more approachable. For instance, swords and sorcery games have never sold as high as FPS. Those are also cheaper to make. They could drop DA and make a FPS. That would be the most approachable game imaginable. Approachable is not automatically a positive word to attach to game development, nor should it be the goal of every game development cycle.

That, plus it would also remove the need to grind in order to beat a specific fight. It would make the game flow much better.

Dragon Age Origins and DA2 already removed grinding. You couldn't grind.

No it's not. Someone might like the story in Bioware's games, but (rightfully) hate going through boring gunfights in, say, Mass Effect and would just rather get to the interactions with characters & cutscenes (or at least have the game give some options how to handle situations, let players go through the game without firing a single shot through dialogue options or stealth).

If you strip the game out of the game, of course it's more approachable.
No one said they need to take the game out of the game. Non-combat gameplay is still gameplay. Someone might not give a shit about Mass Effects mediocre shooter gameplay and would rather just explore the environments and go through the story.
