Better resolution and framerate is now worse than texture filtering...? 20 page thread incoming!
Seriously, I don't know why we take much notice of their ' conclusions'.
I don't get get it either tbh. Maybe it's just eurogamer throwing the xbone...well...a bone. But personally. 1080p and a steadier framerate makes PS4 the better version on consoles.
Wow, console version sound horrible. 20fps really? Shit like that shouldn't be sold, really. It's not a finished product worth our money and more importantly our time. "NextGen". Haha.
dat PS4
Asset streaming is more apparent on PS4 on occasion. Entering the Crippled Burrick area causes assets to visibly pop in in as the camera pans across. Fortunately, once it's loaded the issue disappears during regular play. In this shot, we see the left pillar on the building has yet to resolve its texture on PS4.
So PS4:
- Full 1080p
- Trilinear filtering
- Steadier framerate (>24 FPS)
Xbox One:
- 900p
- 16x anisotropic filtering
- drops to 20's
Yet the Xbox One > PS4, huh?
Yep, i'm fine with 1080p not being an absolute must. I prefer it, but not at the cost of a lot of other stuff.
The point is that it looks and runs great. Not that it's 1080p.
No but maybe the PS4 version could have improved in 900p.The article specifically states that it doesn't look nor run great on either console, though.
Except if you're thinking framedrops to the 20s is "running great", but at that point, you probably shouldn't be reading Digital Foundry articles. >_>
No. See above.Isn't the point that it looks and runs a bit rubbish on both platforms but very slightly less so on the XB1 compared to the PS4.
Yes.So they used a cost saving trick suited for games that run at a lower resolution but cranked the game up to the maximum resolution.
WHAT!?
dat PS4
no. Nothing at all. The only difference should be incompetence.could the benefits of low latency DDR3 be helping here somehow!!?!
trilinear filtering? ...no just no sorry

This looks more like a bungled port than anything... that PS4 image is definitely not because of trilinear filtering... though there are definitely screenshots that highlight this issue.
Question is, is it an intentionally bad port? Or a rush job of some sort? (conspiracy money-hat on)

People should try and read the thread before seeing an image and posting immediately. That's an asset loading issue NOT a shitty texture problem.Ewwww. Some framedrops > blurry textures. AF is always the last setting I drop when I play games on PC.
Compared to worse IQ and worse actual gameplay due to the lower framerate? Really?...lol. No.
This the first time you've heard of tri linear filtering, isn't it?trilinear filtering? ...no just no sorry

Verdict:
Given that all other settings are a match between next-gen platforms, the Xbox One release - surprisingly - stacks up favourable against a maxed-out PC playthrough.

Nixxes did the PS4 port. The people who ported this ported Tomb Raider to PS4
As expected, resolution is dropped to 1280x720 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, while frame-rate is halved to 30fps. Oddly enough, the texture filtering issue present on PS4 isn't a problem here: floor textures enjoy additional clarity on both PS3 and 360, suggesting that we're looking at a bug on PlayStation 4.
What? It's understandable that the PS4 can't win every single battle (even though its the superior system), butI find it very strange that the Xbone would outmatch a maxed out PC on graphical fidelity. That's bizarre. I mean, has that even happened before? (Excluding shitty pc ports by external companies)

And let us hope they get commissioned to fix this shit, truly.Nixxes did the PS4 port.
This article only claimed Nixxes did the PC port.
