OPM UK hinting at something really, really big.. [Up: Earth shattering game revealed]

I'd be happier with Shenmue3 than Batman, and I hate Shenmue.

I want something of massive significance. Anything else is going to be disappointment-ton.

I don't think that Shenmue has huge apeall anymore and Shenmue 3 would shatter everything. This time is really gone. Long time gamers (over 30) like me and GAF would surely fap hard but everyone else?
Wouldn't it be just kind of Sleeping Dogs 2 ?

Fuck off if it's yet another stupid Batman game. I mean they're 'good' but come on. They're practically their own genre at this point and people are on the verge of burnout anyway.

People still care for Shemnue? I thought Yakuza was the superior game anyway...

Well, certainly SOMEONE had to think this.

Though personally I'd rather it be Triad Wars, that's not "a series of massive significance". Honestly, most of the guesses right now would not excite me: Doom, GTA, Crash...meh to all of them.

Now a new Shenmue COULD depending on what it looked like and what it was about.

Edit: Hey, you know what would be insane? If the game in question was Final Fantasy XV. (In a way this is a bigger longshot than Shenmue 3.)

Yakuza is a stripped down poor mans Shenmue (Depth of the world, maturity of the content, themes). I mean sure the combat might be better due to being more modern and having like 6 games in the franchise, but that's a given. I'm pretty sure if the guy behind VIRTUA FIGHTER was making another Shenmue today it the combat would obliterate the Yakuza games.

I don't get that sentiment.

Arkham Asylum - first attempt and probably he greatest superhero game ever up until that point.

City - the definition of a great sequel. Keeps everything great about the original and builds on it.

Origins - definitely a farmed out rehash, but a rehash of something good. 100% of the fault lies with the publisher for wanting a Batman game out for the holidays.

Now we have the original team coming back for a next gen game that they've presumably been working on since the release of City - what's to be burnt out on or cynical about? I mean, to each his own. I just don't get it.

I would grin at ShenMue 3 being made for a Sony platform because I think it would finally be the thing that allows the hardest of the hardcore SEGA fans to forgive Sony for the PlayStation 2 :p

What you say is true. I fit into this category (though I still buy and play Sony consoles and games).

GTA makes perfect sense . The description fits perfectly. . Massive franchise finally confirmed .
It's a port, it's hardly one of the biggest announcements the magazine has ever made, unless it's exclusive and is announced with Agent also being exclusive.

What if it they added an exclusive new area to (the HD version of) San Andreas (i.e. San Fierro or Las Venturas). If they did, I assume they'd be separate islands. I'm curious to know if the current consoles could handle an expansion like this.

It's not something worth getting excited about on the level that this tease is suggesting, and it's a known certainty where as everything else that fits the bill of the tease would be substantially more meaningful to fans of those respective possibilities.

Heard about this on the PS Nation Podcast. They hypothesize it is GTA V. I dunno... Is there any thing from the Official Xbox mag related to a big series? If it was GTA V you'd think it would be multiplat right?

I am guessing it is a series not seen before on a PS system from the wording they use "...finally being confirmed for PS4."

If it is GTA V, while cool, I'm just not sure how that qualifies as 'the most exciting cover ever!'

It's almost definitely gta5. This is opm we're talking about here - they're part of the hype machine.

Gta5, next gen exclusive 1080p and 60fps.

FFXV has long been confirmed for the PS4. Part of the hint for this is that it's a game that's finally been confirmed for the console.

Finally confirmed...release date?

I dunno. I really, really don't care about all the other games people are mentioning so I went with something I did care about.

k, i truly despise when these fucking scumbag magazine employees do this shit with their upcoming covers. Enough arleady, you hacks. Figure out a less annoying way to drum up hype for your shitty, always on the brink of shutting down magazine.

GUYS WE'VE GOT THE BIGGEST MEGATON ANNOUNCEMENT COMING. WAIT 3 MONTHS FOR OUR FUCKING 5 PAGE AD. Stop it already. Yuuuck.

In the meanwhile there's a 35+ page thread on one of the most popular gaming boards in the world about their tease. It's clever and cheap marketing, that's what it is.

I've got no idea who this bloke is, but since he/she isn't banned yet:

Not a port. Also, not Sony.

...

I was actually quite convinced it was Batman. Is it the "most exciting"? I don't know, maybe to them it is. But then I learnt about Gameinformer's 1 month exclusivity...

I dont see any other way a magazine can even exist anymore. It takes no more than 5 minutes for everyone else to run qith it if they do it differently.

Uh, no. No, not in the slightest. That's bit of an upsetting misconception there, both from a game design viewpoint and a cultural/racial viewpoint, since y'know, one is in Hong Kong, the other is in a 1980's Japanese city. One is an open world GTA/John Woo drive/shoot/fight game, the other is... well, I'm not sure exactly, I haven't really played Shenmue.

Why would a port be a cover story? Unless there were some really significant additions to GTA Online that could take advantage of a higher player count, it isn't a particularly exciting (or new) development.

Shenmue 2 is set in Hong Kong, actually.

I hate that we live in a world that any port would be considered cover worthy, but unfortunately we do.
