damn, did you really reach out to amazon over this? like...did you really care to spend your time doing this? im baffled. I feel bad for whatever customer service rep had to deal with this inquiry.

Its not against the rules for him to do that, is it?

maybe, what's it to you? if something seems hilarious and I want to quote/reply to it, I think I will. it's not against the rules.
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=103988910&postcount=983

Its certainly topical since we are talking reviews here.

That is shady as FUCK. People on there saying they are verified owners who reviewed it low and had it removed. Hard to tell what's real anywhere anymore. Why does all of this suspect shit seem to follow this game and Microsoft around.

Maybe this happens all the time but I've never heard of Amazon going on a review deleting spree, especially removing reviews from verified owners if that is in fact the case (they claim it is.)

Seems like a normal thing they do.

Wat? You feel bad for someone doing their job? Did you not want them to have the job or something? What else would the person be doing if not answering customer's queries?

Re: Reviews on Amazon

Looks like a bunch of the low reviews were added back. Looking at them, can anybody here say that they really think these people are offering honest feedback? Butthurt losers are obviously using Amazon reviews (and Metacritic) to try to shit on products that they would buy if it were available on their console of choice. This shit is annoying in all its forms and takes away from ACTUAL critical discussion of a product.

8.9?

Does he give any specific reason for the .1 point short of 9? Just curious, seems like a odd number to give.

I wondered that too, but I figured he didn't quite think it was a 9 but a cut above the other games that score in the 8's. 8.9 seems like a fair way to show that

I never said it was. but it's kinda overkill and a waste of personal time imo.

If you ever worked in retail customer service...you'd know there are 2 types of problems. Real problems, and stupid problems. This falls into the latter.

If customers rely on the reviews of products to help them determine their value of said product then how would a customer perceiving the removal/editing of reviews not fall under a real problem?

And yes I'm well aware of why Amazon did it. I simply mean from the average customer's perspective it would appear to be a very real problem

cause its ridiculous to reach out to a frontline employee about something like that. What kind of answer do you think you will get and what do you think that frontline employee can do about it? it's a stupid problem.

Uh the customer service person can clarify to the customer Amazon's standard policy on monitoring reviews and trying to recognize fraudulent ones? Why are you so annoyed that someone wants to clarify a company policy with a company customer representative?

It is in no way shape or form a stupid problem. You trying to characterize it as one simply by saying that is it one, doesn't make it so. If I as a customer want to clarify a company policy on something that is not clearly documented who the hell do you want me to talk to?

Whatever, we all know he hasn't been able to stop the Titanfall hype drum in every video he posted for like every day for months straight. Dude probably couldn't contain himself even if he did have some standard against posting reviews of games that weren't functional on day one. Probably had the one trillion star review ready to go back in 2003. No one is more transparent than Adam Sessler.

well, it is an opinion type thing, and my opinion is it's a really silly and stupid problem for someone to actually waste energy and time on. Having worked in retail, these kinds of things end up being what is joked about because of how silly it is.

Why is it silly? Please go in detail and explain as simply reiterating that "it's a dumb problem" does not actually explain why on earth it would be a dumb problem.

It's silly to me to waste energy on someone's issue with people's opinions on a product. it is what it is. There is nothing for me (if I was that customer service rep) to do about it. Wanting to know the policy can be found out simply by googling amazon review policy, and it is spelled out right there. Did your package get lost? Did you need to return an item and get a refund? Did we send you the wrong item? those are real problems. You fighting the console war fight isnt.

Amazon is built on its reviews. That is what people have loved about it. That has been among its greatest added values since its inception as an online shopping site.

For a customer who sees reviews they counted on to possibly being edited by Amazon themselves is a serious concern for most customers on the basis of what makes Amazon the store it is. How you can't grasp the importance of amazon reviews to amazon is baffling to me.

Customer service reps are meant to guide and help customers who are concerned. This is clearly a case of that. A rep pointing to said page could be helpful but the customer could have further questions about the policy or their guidelines. It is well within the confines of a real problem and not at all a stupid one as you have so consistently repeated

Whatever, I disagree and I stated why. If you disagree, then you disagree. I am not mad at your opinion though u seem to be upset with mine.

Also,
While reviews on amazon have been impactful, I disagree that it was "built" on reviews. Amazon I feel was built on great customer service with the most affordable prices and ease of use. I feel they kinda pioneered online shopping in some ways. and whenever customers would bring up amazon in the retail environment, it was because of the price. With that said, I have been using amazon since when they were just a book store. So I might view them differently than others.

Fine we'll leave it at that. Although you seemed to be mad at the original opinion of the poster who asked the question as clearly he thought it was a worthwhile question to be asked fyi.

Amazon was built on more than just its reviews agreed but they were and are one of its biggest boons imo

thinking something is silly, stupid, baffling does not = anger. I was being more dismissive than anything.

I would classify it more as condescending but sure?

You certainly were bothered by his opinion on what is and isn't appropriate to ask an amazon customer service rep regardless of how we quantify your responses

A number of the very low reviews are from verified purchasers on Amazon.

In the mean time we have reviews like IGN which claimed they were supposedly waiting to see how the servers panned out before giving their score - day one at peak time the servers were unavailable for hours for many people, turning the consoles of new purchasers into bricks in some instances. Then they comment on the game being barebones and a "baffling" (their word - not mine) lack of at least one certain standard feature. Graphics/framerate are somehow completely ignored in spite of the site's typical preoccupation with visuals. It all culminates in an 8.9/10 score. Ha ha.

In the end fan and media reviews are both incredibly biased. Calling out one while indirectly implying the other is offering "honest feedback" is silly. However I would agree that having something like a verified puchaser filter option on Amazon reviews would be pretty handy.

Was the IGN review a review of both versions or just the Xbone version?

I ask because Ryan Mccaffery, a known Xbox writer, states this in his review

Titans, pilots, maps, and weapon effects are all perfectly acceptable, save for the occasional dip below the otherwise-normal 60 frames per second in a huge multi-titan explosion or the ugly talking head of your faction leader before you exit your dropship at the start of a match.

Wasn't it stated that the Xbone versions run at 792p30fps? Just asking,,,even though I know the guy stated before in the IGN podcast that 60fps isn't even distinguishable to the naked eye...... >.>

No it's targeting 60fps and I believe hits that most of the time when titans aren't on the field. Not sure about performance overall though but it's certainly targeting 60 not 30

#1 - Being a "verified purchaser" on Amazon only means that you put in an order. I can be a "verified purchaser" of any game within 30 seconds, without ever buying that game.

#2 - Nobody "indirectly implied" anything. When the entire gaming journalism community (via Metacritic) agrees that something is a 4/5 - 5/5 product, somebody submitting a 4/5 or 5/5 review is not "incredibly biased". That falls right within community opinion. That's not to say that everybody with a 0/5 review is a liar... but any blind person can see what's going on here. If somebody just said "BEST GAME EVER", I wouldn't call that any more valid than "WORST GAME EVER".

#3 - When your reviews section is full of shit like this:

"By Lars Kingbeard (Galipoli) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Titanfall - Xbox One (Video Game)
This game really highlights the power of the xbone, or rather the lack of it. "Next gen" system can't manage 1080p? What a joke. Once destiny comes out this game will be forgotten and so will the xbone."

You can't really deny that people are intentionally creating a cesspool to further their own agenda.

You don't realize the irony of what you're doing.

Here's another randomly cherry picked review:

5.0 out of 5 stars Titanfall OMG, March 11, 2014
By Fawaz - See all my reviews
This review is from: Titanfall - Xbox One (Video Game)
Titanfall is the best FPS, Arguably the best game ever made.
If you love Shooter games Titanfall made it for you !

There are idiots on both sides. If you honestly believe there are hoards of people order/cancelling just to pretend they purchased the game to yield credibility to themselves among hoards of monkeys, then you can read the OT thread and you can also find people disappointed with the game who were generally neutral to positive before its release. The only thing that really changes with the media is eloquence and motivation of agenda. EGM had their Titanfall coverage surrounded by dozens of Titanfall and related ads and even leads into it with a hype audio/video media clip. They ended up giving it a 10/10. In the pros of the game they even listed "Variety of game modes." That alone almost feels like it has to be a sly wink to anybody who knows what's going on. Of course perhaps I'm giving the guy too much credit and maybe he really is just another clown.

In any case. If you actually think the games media is a reasonable and objective machine, I'd beg you to read this bit: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...ence-leaves-eurogamer-after-libel-complaints/

edit 2:
Just to be clear, some shit when missing from my post when I went editing a second time (I suppose) on mobile.
I know the author of the review and I was just taking the piss at him and IGN's "infamous' anthics in good jest :)

So, I didn't know (my bad) there actually was an italian branch of IGN and I admit I haven't really paid attention to a lot of reviews in the last few of years, besides my EDGE sub, other than maybe a few specific instances, but that... that THING has got to be one of the
worst and
most hilarious reviews I've ever read in my entire life. Have you freakin' read that mate?
Holy batman, I would've never guessed someone would ever be able to top IGN's usual drivel filled hyperbolic sentences (Citizen Kane/Oscar's worthy anyone?) but goddamn was I wrong.
Seems all it took was just for another IGN to beat IGN at their own game.
For the guys who can't read Italian, well what can I say... you lucky bastards!

Btw, they awarded the game a 9.2 out of 10 (not disputing that, obviously, just the text which actually led me to believe they'd slap an "11 out 10 CUM LAUDE" on there :p)

I am the author of the review in question (and also that infamous 9.5 given to The Wonderful 101 was mine, LOL), it sucks to hear you didn't like what you read Dash.
Yet i did enjoy every single minute i spent with Titanfall, and i do think the game is pretty much history in the making.
I've been a gamer for 27 years, and very, very little times a game got me so excited, so thrilled and so amazed.
I honestly would have given Titanfall even a higher score if the graphics and the campaign were better, LOL.

I've taken this to PM.
Let it be known that some of my post went missing (I noticed it now) with entire lines of sentences cut down when I edited it a second time (I was on mobile, as always). Basically it was sarcastic AND yes I was also taking the piss at the hyperbolic shit but it was in good jest my friend, and my "have you read it mate" to the guy who posted the link was also added later as a "wink wink" after I've noticed he was in fact Stefano.

I knew it was you man, you've linked me to your stuff before, we're friends over PSN (and maybe 3DS) and you used to send me/us hilarious drawings over 3DS' now defunct app.
Sorry it went like this man!

your W-101 review was the only one that mattered, actually you should've rated it higher :p

No problem whatsoever you dirty Inter fan: as i told Dash in private, he could have even said those things "seriously" as far as i'm concerned, without changing a thing in the respect i feel for him.
Respectable or not, a review is just a point of view, and you can always agree or disagree with that.
That said, Titanfall fucking ROCKS. :*

Is that the "Game Revolution" one?

If you want something more from your video games or if you want to be transported to another dimension to learn the true role of an intergalactic soldier, you should probably hit the books.
I think this dude may not play video games for the same reasons as I do.

He (danielrbischoff from GameRevolution) does like the genre because he gave:

Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 5/5
Battlefield 4 4.5/5
Metro: Last Light 4/5
BioShock Infinite 4.5/5

Next time before you bash someone, at least spend 5 minutes and do some research

This stance that games deserve a certain range of scores is really moronic.

This isn't a toaster, it's a piece of entertainment.

Not to side with Syrus because Titanfall totally deserves whatever-who-gives-a-shit, but the last paragraph of that Game Revolution review is one of the most embarrassing pieces of video games writing I've read in some time and I read Kill Screen every day.
