So what's Visceral\EA's E3 surprise now that everything about this has leaked online?

"Hey...uh guys...Pre-order now for...on-disc...DLC. Back by popular demand....uh..Battlepacks?"

This looks fucking outstanding, especially the single player mode.

But Battlefield 4 was such a piece of shit. I simply cannot buy this game in good conscience

What is it that people like about Bad Company? Bad Company only existed to fill the BF hole on consoles that weren't capable of the full experience. It was bad and you should feel bad for liking it.

The multiplayer was simple. The maps were great and purpose built for one or two modes. The single player had its moments and tried it's best to be its own game rather than emulate Call of Duty.

Looks good. Although it's not the Rainbow Six successor I had hoped it would be.

Ah well, still looks like a good game though. Will probably be the first BF I pick up since Bad Company.

Here's my theories on the game modes presented:

Heist Mode - round-based one-life. Listening to the description, it sounds like a spinoff of counter-strike's bomb defuse mode. Criminals grab loot, and leave with it, police defend.

Rescue mode - basic hostage mode from CS, also round-based

Hot Wire mode - not sure what to think of this one, this is new to me, can't compare it to anything

Blood Money - this is like neutral flag CTF to me or neutral bomb. Money is going to be somewhere on the map, and each side fight to gain control of it and bring it back to their home base...not sure if this would be round-based or continuous respawns. Interesting to see what they do here.

Gadgets:

Ziplines and hooks - from the description they say they can be used anywhere on any map...which translates to 360 degree combat movement. Think of Titanfall, you can basically jump onto any ledge, wall run, etc, it allows for 360 degree movement. Battlefield currently doesn't have this nor has it ever had this. This gameplay element alone will change up the gameplay tremendously. Rooftop campers will never be safe technically, and evasion techniques can be used to roof hop, etc. This will make for a great tactical experience that won't get stale...hopefully.

Anyone else have any theories?

To me it wasn't a gritty humorless modern shooter. I liked the Characters and the game had a certain tongue-in-cheek feel to it.

We live in a world of ADHD gamers, the days of a simulation are probably gone. Maybe BFHardpoint will have some sim-modes or something, but for a true sim experience, we're probably never going to see that again, at least not in an AAA level. You're going to have a tough time convincing a publisher these days that a SWAT simulator is going to push millions of copies.

Sad but probably true. Hopefully the game modes allow for people to play an arcade style and for others to play a more simulation style.

Usually game modes/settings can dictate that if done right.

Hmmm… I don't think a SWAT-game needs to be a niche simulator. There is still quite a bit of cool action that can be pulled off without turning it into an all out Michael Bay movie.

Having said that, I wouldn't expect anything less from a SWAT game titled "Battlefield" :D

To me this look like a mod for BF4. And people are willing to pay for this? Ah hell no after the disaster BF4 i will not be fooled again.

God dammit, I Iike to watch reveals at E3! What kind of stupid people like to leak things. It just ruins the whole moment. I hope the idiot that done this gets fired.

I'm pretty sure EA is going to be a completely new trailer for E3. This was an internal trailer codenamed Omaha for invited press.

It was probably a teaser for them leading up to E3.

Can't wait to see more footage. Hopefully it's decidedly toned down in the explosions department from what we see in the trailer.

looks really cool to me, Visceral is generally awesome too so I have faith, just wish EA didn't feel the need to tack on the 'Battlefield' name

The zip line seems interesting. I'm all for any kind of equipment that helps me squash those vermin rooftop campers. BF4 was outrageous in that regard. If you're playing TDM on zavod you know what I mean. Everyone runs up to the rooftop and then places a claymore on the hatch (cortesy of DICE to promote camping) and then they go 15-0 because of that mistake. Try to take the other roof and shoot them from there?

Bad luck if you fall on a bad team, cause they probably captured that rooftop too. Unless you play to camp you're gonna get caught up by surprise by these upstanding gentlemen everysingle time. The zip line fixes that so it's awesome. On CQ it wasn't a problem though.

On the game modes, I can picture heist mode being perma, as that helps to promote team work and careful planning, but the other modes not so much. There's a lot of people that can't stand that shit, waiting to respawn on the next round. And I can't see this game being 32x32. After everything BF4 offered it's gonna be a step back no matter how you slice it. How can the criminals have access to huge helicopters and armoured APCs? It's always gonna be unbalanced. I don't know if many people will jump ship from BF4 to this one, and I'm not sure if their goal is to have less people buying their game.

If this runs better, I will check it out for sure, but I will miss the larger scale conflicts.

It's a BF4 mod. They aren't trying to be a realistic cops vs. robbers game, rather they are just giving BF fans some new modes to play.

I doubt aircraft will be present in all game modes/maps. I agree, though--jets don't seem to make any sense. Transport/police helicopters do, though.

side note, after seeing how well a lot of the normal locations and characters look, i can only get more hyped to see what Battlefront looks like at e3!

would love to scenarios like this play out in Battlefront and have character models look just as sharp

Well it looks like Battlefield....

It will be tons of fun but I'm not convinced that I will want to pick this up. I will have to wait to hear impressions about the hostage mode. If it's as tense as Rainbow Six: Vegas,
I know that game as Attack and Defend/Calypso Casino
I'm in.

I could also be swayed by the campaign if it's any good.

Wow, it's like they reskinned every weapon, vehicle and character in BF4 and said, "HEY LOOK A BRAND NEW BF GAME FOR YOU TO BUY AT $60! JUST ONE YEAR AFTER THE LAST ONE, YOU REMEMBER, THE ONE WE STILL HAVEN'T FIXED YET! ENJOY!"

Nobodies forcing you to watch it.

I do know that. I knew someone was going to say that. But the thing is, its been leaked, therefore why not. I like surprises, polished trailers, that show off the product at its best and its vision. All this trailer did was show me the mechanics as I can't truly trust these visuals. Although its the biggest improvement in mechanics since bad company.

Lol ok. You can keep your giant static maps, getting sniped from a mile away, and jets that don't really affect the battle on the ground whatsoever.

I prefer smaller and largely destructible maps, weapons that actually felt like real guns, and the best sound the series has ever had.

MOTHERFUCKER

Here I was hoping I'd finally be getting that SWAT 4-style FPS I've been waiting for since SWAT 4, and instead I get this shit directed by Michael Bay!

A million rounds being fired a second; explosions everywhere. MORE ACTION THAN ANY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY HAS SEEN IN THEIR ENTIRE HISTORY PACKED INTO THE FIRST FUCKING MINUTE OF FOOTAGE.

Sorry, I just had to vent.

I'm out.

We all know this is where the U.S. law enforcement is heading with the militarization.

Are you kidding? The fact that this was meant for internal eyes only and not too souped-up graphically means it is probably the most believable trailer I have seen in a while. And it displayed TONS of actual gameplay. I wish we got stuff like this more often!

I see someone has recently purchased a ticket for the bad opinion train.

Hey, it's GTA V with first person view!!! Wow! OMG! Here is my $60, EA!!!

Actually, this looks pretty boring. I hoped for something better than this...1944 for example.

Indeed. Man I used to turn it up in that game like no other game before.

I think serious kudos to DICE/Visceral for making a brave decision and developing a AAA FPS that is not based on the Military.
It looks like a huge amount of fun to play SP and MP.
I have worked on numerous internal trailers similar to this and people really have to understand that whilst it is presented in a professional manner in terms of video editing etc that the artwork and Graphics / game play are far from final. I feel bad for them that this got leaked, but glad for them that from what I can see its gonna be good, unfortunately most of the masses are going to incorrectly assume this is final quality.
The quoted comment made earlier about this is why we don't get to see WIP stuff is very relevant

After the BF4 disaster (which me and all my friends also bought premium for), I'm not buying this at launch for full price no matter how good it is.

Something like Heist mode looks like it could be a lot of fun. However, Battlefield's driving mechanics are way too poor for something like Hotwire to ever work.

It's supposed to be based on SWAT right? Why are there tanks.... tanks are what ruined the last two games for me.

Pls no tanks or jets.

Seriously, if this kind of thing bothers you the best thing you can do is avoid GAF or other gaming websites in the 4 or 6 weeks leading up to E3.
