Rise of the Tomb Raider timed Xbox exclusive for Holiday 2015 (No PS/PC, SE publish)

Thanks Square, guess that's what I deserve for buying TR on PS3 and TR:DE on PS4. What a giant slap in the face... Saying we should buy Osiris instead, is only adding insult to injury. Sure as hell won't buy any definitive editions anymore, who knows where SD2 might end up after all.

I will definitely think twice before buying Square games again....and nope I won't buy an Xbox for TR.

Maybe part of the timed deal is that M$ gets holiday exclusivity for publishing the game themselfs while Square takes charge of PC and PS4 releases at a later date.

What wording are people talking about making it seem like it will be timed? The wording in the OP sounds like a release window followed by platform.

This is what I thought. It looks like an exclusive game releasing in 2015. Not an exclusive until 2016.

Hey Square, go die in a fire you worthless POS company.

Way to make Tomb Raider exclusive to the Xbox One. Scared that you won't meet sales targets without Microsoft's money huh? Fuck you if you think I'm paying for this now after you just shat on your fanbase. That's going to hold up, right? Fucking making this exclusive to the Xbox One despite Tomb Raider's history on the Playstation? You're a bunch of clowns. I take it as a personal insult that you mouthbreathers are allowed to make decisions with regards to how franchises I used to really love are handled. Your asses got bailed out when you purchased Eidos because their president, like all of you, was a complete and utter mook. I make two better executives than your entire company combined in the toilet every morning before I go to work. I look forward to the day that your company crashes and burns into the fucking sea, only to be picked apart as salvage by western iOS developers, at which time the franchises you've already defiled with incompetence and negligence can be finally whored out to smartphones.

That's assuming you asshats don't beat your eventual western smartphone overlords to the punch, which you probably will because you give fuck all about the legacy of these franchises, to say nothing about just how little regard you hold towards the fans who made them what they where.

As the owner of a PS4 please go swallow glass

Never been more appropriate ;)

Yeah fuck them...i'm waiting for them to put the game on their true fanbase's console...the sega saturn....wait...

Currect me if I'm wrong... But wasn't Ninja Gaiden 2 also published by microsoft and then added Sigma to the title and ported it to PS3?

I'm not sure about this info so currect me if i was wrong or asure me if i was right.

I dont know about this. Dont you think with how supremely talented Miyazakis team at FROM is, that he would be able to get a publisher for Bloodborne? They went with Sony because it is the safer route to go, guaranteeing the studio money even if the game fails, which is probably just the same reason Square Enix made this deal with MS.

FROM weren't looking for a publisher for anything. Bloodborne was Sony's proposal to Miyazaki. It was never going to be a multiplatform game, it's not Dark Souls 3.

Going by this thread, Microsoft almost certainly (would have to look at the actual finance numbers to be 100% sure) did the right move moneyhatting this. They get:

1)A successful and well known AAA IP to launch exclusively on their consoles in a year
2)Get a game to combat Uncharted on at least some level
3)Help build their game roster
4)Hopefully push some more Xbone sales, which they very much need

Square Enix presumably got cash, which they might have needed for the development of other games such as FFXV or KH3 despite them turning a profit. There isn't anything inherently scummy about this but rather a purely capitalistic venture. Now I'm not happy about this as I did want to play it on the PC like I did the original, but I understand both parties are corporations and this was a deal that seemingly benefited both parties. Their main goal is to increase their profit revenues and seemingly their accountants thought this was a good deal.

The only thing that could justify this deal is the fact that Rise of the Tomb Raider would be murdered by Uncharted 4 regardless, SE just cashed out and passed the ball to MS.

Still very stupid.

If RotTR comes to PS4 in spring/summer 2016 that seems like a smart move for SE. They get all the marketing and financial help from MS up front, and then RotTR can have it's own window on the PS4 away from Uncharted 4.

ghst

thanks for the laugh
maybe if consoles weren't so obsessed with scoring points off each other by devaluing their rivals, they wouldn't be getting steamrolled by more progressive platforms.

I think people are missing the point. People are upset because it was a multiplatform game that is now exclusive. They can't play a game in a series they're already invested in.

People weren't this upset at something like Sunset Overdrive or Titanfall, because they're new IP's and they're not being removed from their console's library.

Thank you, on spot

Good to see Microsoft is being proactive and securing high quality exclusive. It is exactly what they need to be doing right now.

Yeah, if you work for MS, maybe you see it as a good thing (even though it isn't from a business perspective either). But for gamers and everyone else, it's really shitty.

I want to play Deep Down on my X1. I want to play Yakuza on my 360 or X1. I want to play Tales of X 1/2 on my 360.

I can't because they are exclusive on PS3/4. But I wasn't angry because I know I love those games and I will buy PS3/4 to play them.

But their former games weren't on Xbox. I can see why people were pissed about Bayo, and I can see why people are pissed about this.

No one really wins when a multi-plat goes exclusive. Well, in this case, I guess S-E does. You know they ran to the bank cashing that check.

I'm actually shocked, I own an XBOX ONE, a PS4 and a beefy PC and still i'm somehow pissed off, i liked TR2013 a lot and the fact that the new installment of the serie will not be playable on the "better" console specwise or be cheaper to get on PC makes me a sad panda, squareenix what were u thinking with the deal?

Well, now we know it was published by Microsoft. I guess SE did not want to publish it, so Microsoft put the money in. Interesting ... my opinion became 180 then. What happened between E3 and now to make them not want to publish it? TR:DV not selling well?
DE sold the least on Xbox one. In fact TR 2013 sold the least on MS platform. Sony platforms had 55% of the share rest was between 360, One and PC.

What's so hard to understand?
A) Funding a game's development: Perfectly alright.
B) Paying to prevent a third party game from coming to competing platforms: Despicable.

Rewarding a company for practice B means that you approve of it and are making sure it will continue because you are giving them more money to spend that way.

I hope people realize that this means Tomb Raider will get cancelled (as a franchise)
It will sell nowhere near enough for SE to be satisfied, and they'll axe it. This is bad news for everyone.

Real Tomb Raider has been dead for almost a decade now.The reboot was just a game that was pretending to be TR.

At this point the franchise geting axed might be the only solution in order to really be reborned from its ashes (years from now) with a new developer on its helm that doesn't just try to tick boxes of popular modern trends and actually tries to re-evaluate what were the unique values this series used to have.

This exclusivity might suck for fans of the Reboot but for old TR fans it might be a blessing in disquise if it results in Crystal Dynamics finally getting separated from the franchise (due to low sales).

I would have expected this to happen to one of those Rockstar games, but not to a game like Tomb Raider. It won't increase sales that much

If MS is hoping to push XB1 sales using TR in the same month as UC4 releases for PS4 then they are beyond delusional.

Yeah, it's absolutely the industry's fault but at the same time, this type of console competition is what got us to the more progressive gaming ecosystem we have now.

I'm wondering what Square's role even is in this anymore. Did Microsoft buy Tomb Raider from them? Are they licensing it out? It's their game and they're not even publishing it

But ya, that makes me think it's like Dead Rising 3 where it was in trouble and Microsoft is getting them to the finish line

Every main version of Tomb Raider has come to Windows apart from Rise. Of course it is a scummy move, no PC gamer is going to buy an Xbox One just to play Rise.

Then find a way to get the Xbox selling Japan because that's why those games aren't hitting the console.
