What exactly about the picture subtly notes the fact that they know? Nintendo has been posting smash bros pics on twitter for weeks now. Seems like a normal, regularly scheduled twitter picture to me.
All 3 of these were posted on their twitter since the picture leak. Are these also hints that they know?

The way they say "...meanwhile" sounds like they know something else is going on. It's like a tv show or comic book when the scene switches and the narrator announces the new setting. In the context of all the leaks going on right now, at first it seems as if they're trying to contrast the normal PR shot with all the other craziness we're experiencing.
Of course it isn't actually a reference to the leak (most likely), and it's more intended to just show off how random and funny Smash Run/mimicutie are, with the 'meanwhile' contrasting to whatever else the reader is doing.
