Well... I'm sending my PS4 back to Sony

They were nice enough on the phone, but It took 3 weeks total for my PS4 (HDMI issue) to get replaced. I wish they would just send a new one and take the old one like MS does for XB1 (with refundable deposit fee of course). I'm not sure if MS is still doing this or if Sony has changed their replacement policy since launch, though.

This sounds majestic.

Too bad the bad apples ruin it for everyone else and this wouldn't work everywhere in the world.

I'm in the UK, and this is how I have always been dealt with whoever I speak to. I have no idea if it applies to PS4's or even if it still applies to PS3's, but it certainly used to, and it was gloriously fast. The first time they were at my door less than 24 hours after making the call to Sony. Which is impressive by any standards.

Edit**

Haha, I read that as PS4.

I would quit gaming if it was PS4's, I was very unfortunate with my PS3's, and several of those were replacement launch models, each time with a refurb that died shortly afterwards. Same issue every time, disc reading problems, spinning disc icon for all time.

I am all digital on the ps4 but i did put a movie in it they other day.
Are the buttons actually buttons or touch sensitive like the original ps3?

Seems like I just passed my finger over it and didnt actually push it down to eject the disk.

touch sensitive (unfortunately)

I have had issues with the eject button. It kept beeping randomly (no disc in, so nothing happened). Tried a lot of things, but it finally stopped when I wiped the power and eject buttons with a cloth. Also wiped under the PS4.

Really?

1) Perhaps other avenues of Support? Blizzard offers at least 3 other ways of contacting them besides phone - which by the way is free.
2) While we're at that, not having a Support phone number that charges an eye for minute, at least not if you're going to be kept in hold for more than half an hour.
3) Better cooperation between regional offices. Not redirecting someone to a different country support just because their item was built there?

I was fully expecting paying for shipping and even for repairs (And keep in mind, I don't think I should - it's a 4 months old console that I babied from the first minute). But the hurdles I have to jump just to get the most basic of supports (broken hardware repairs) is astounding.

ED: And I don't want to shitpost this thread Ricki_R, just wanted to share my experience with Sony's support. I really hope yours is better. I wuv my PS4 so.

It's cool. It's frustrating either way, so you're welcome to vent in here. ;)

did you try relocating the console, OP?

it sounds like some environmental issue triggering the eject button. those things are sensitive. and dumb.

Hmmm, haven't really tried that, although my PS4 is in a good spot with no extreme heat or cold around it.

I need to send them my blue controller that has the rubber peeled off, but they've told me I'll get a black one back. Fucks sake.

I put some rubber to elevate the console from the table and have't had that issue since then.

I had a bad hard drive in my launch unit and it would randomly need the HDMI unplugged and plugged back in.

I finally sent it in after the initial launch rush and it took about 4 weeks to get it back. There was major cluster fucks with getting me a box first of all. I think this was really FedExs fault, but still took 3 tries to get a box.

Then, it sat for a week before I called Sony asking wtf was going on and they had no idea. Took a few more calls and transfers to get that resolved. Then they finally sent it back to me. The good news is that it has worked flawlessly since then, but man it was a pain. Hopefully it has improved since I may need to have the controller replaced soon with the rubber coming off.

Just make sure everything is backed up before you send it out or you lose everything.... use the PS+ cloud man.

Usually takes less than a week to get a new one.

I've gone all-digital, and therefore haven't put any game discs in my PS4 since launch. My concern is that my drive is messed up but I won't even realize it for years when I'm watching a Blue-Ray or something. Guess I should test it out... didn't know this was an issue.

You would now if you were affected even when going strictly digital: Mine tried to eject discs when the drive was empty.

(Happened to me while the sun was shining directly onto the eject button, haven't seen it since.)

I'm actually sending mine in tomorrow for the same issue. I tried everything as well, but they were all temporary fixes. Hopefully my new PS4 doesnt have this problem.

Had the same problem, OP. Except I didn't try any if the fixes. Sent it to Sony. The whole process of shipping it out and receiving it back took 10 days.

It wasn't too bad for me as I have a large backlog of games on PS3, so it kept me entertained.

Tough break, broseph.

I had a scare last night when my PS4 started doing the pulsing white light when I tried putting it in standby mode and then had to reboot in safe mode. I guess it's a bug and not necessarily a sign of an incoming bricked console but regardless your heart just sinks when something goes wrong.

Send it in and get it back in time for the Fall lineup.

Yeah, 10 to 15 days is alright with me. I've grown patient over the years.

When I had my launch PS4 repaired back in January, they would not send me a new unit at all prior to receiving my broken one. I hate when companies do that. Put a hold on my credit card if you don't trust me; I don't care!

I live in Puerto Rico. It's hot and humid.

Then you have no excuse to stay inside and play games. I was there last winter and had a great time. That was actually the last time my PS4 was away from me an extended period of time. I bought the console and went to the Caribbean for a month. Hopefully this wait until I get my unit back won't last as long.

Happened to me in December. Sent it in and they shipped a brand new one back immediately, sans the controller. They did leave the $10 PSN card in the new one's box though.

Sony's customer service on bunk units is pretty stellar. When my PS4 arrived and crapped out after a day, they had a new one at my door in about 6 days. They couldn't have been better on the phone or in communication.

I sent my ps4 in two weeks ago for the same issue. It was an easy process and took about a week to get my ps4. They sent the same ps4 back and they wiped the hard drive. Be prepared to redownload everything

I sent a 360 back twice. Launch fat PS3 died last year. I think GoW Ascension finally broke it. Went to a casino shortly after and played $100 on slots and luckily made a $400 profit. Went and bought a 500GB white slim PS3 with that money.

Both my PS4 and XB1 are all good so far. *knock on wood*

I had a friend who had to send his 360s back SIX times. And I believe one time he got a console box back from MS only to open it up and see that it was an original xbox. lol.

Haha, glad that you had a great time. This a great Island and there's a lot of fun to be had here.

On topic: Glad to see that many people here have had a smooth process sending their PS4's for repair/replacement.

I don't think it's a widespread issue, I haven't heard of this outside of GAF.

Plus, it seems like PS4 issues and technical troubleshooting is more prone to posted here than anything else. I don't see a lot of XB1 owners posting similar issues. They probably just go to the XB1 support forums.

So I actually had the exact same issue back in January. I called Sony and described the issue to which the rep replied "try unplugging all the cables and plugging them back in after a minute or two". So despite expecting no result this actually fixed the problem and it's been working fine ever since and most of my games are on disc. It's worth giving that a shot OP just in case, if it hasn't already been posted off of course.

Had this happen to mine, would randomly start beeping and trying to eject discs even if none were inside. Luckily never happened whilst I was playing games! Would even happen when the console was on standby.

I've also had this issue but my fiancé is a three strikes and your out kind of guy. It's done it twice now. Multiple times during those periods.

He works at a store so we can just swap it over luckily.

It happens, launch day my system had a bad drive. Horrible grinding noise when inserting/ejecting discs. I took it to a Sony store and the console wouldn't do it for about 3-4 insert/eject cycles, then it happened and they swapped it no questions asked on the spot. I hope the coffin is speedy, god knows Microsoft wasn't with early 360s.

The problem is all ps4s are susceptible to this problem at anytime. It's a design flaw. I'm on my 2nd ps4 right now and it has done the spit out the disc routine just like the first. I cannot be bothered with sending it back because I know it will just be a never ending cycle.

My fix that has worked for about 2 months now with no problems since: cut up a rubber eraser into 4 pieces and stick them underneath the unit in the corners.

My launch ps4 hasn't got too much use, am a bit worried that something like this will go wrong just out of warranty when the big 2015 games hit. Especially as had a rotten run of luck with ps3 2 drive fails and 2ylod.

Sent my PS4 today. Will update again soon (hopefully) with how everything went through, for those interested. Btw, I shall add that two days ago my PS4 started to beep three times randomly while it was turned off and it did so a couple of times, so it's pretty evident that I had a time bomb in my living room.

Anyway, here's a pic of my PS4 all sad before I left it at Fed Ex. Pray for it, please. :(

Good luck!

I'll prob buy the accidental damage protection plan for $53 on psn store when I get my white bundle.

No shipping costs, 3 years coverage total.

I would say to go for it. I think it's worth it these days. I didn't pay shipping, but I only had the standard 1 year, which expires in November.

I actually just got my ps4 back for the same exact issue. Sony sent me a box and I gave sent it back to them through FEDEX (which they paid for). I thought they were going to have it for a long time, but it seemed like it took less than a week. Before I even knew it my PS4 was back at my house and the disc eject error has not happened again yet

I'm gonna put my ps4 through the paces when nhl comes out so I'll see if it breaks. I got my unit at launch but it's basically been a netflix machine. I had some digital games i played but they don't test the blu ray drive at all.

How is this the first time I've heard of this shit? At this point I'm certain I won't bother getting a PS4 until we get a slim edition or something.

So it just ejects discs at random? That sounds pretty damn frustrating.
Yeah OP, it's good you're sending it back because you shouldn't have to tolerate this kind of mechanical error after purchasing a product for 400 smackeroos or even one less expensive.
You bought the PS4 to play games and that's practically impossible if the console keeps spitting the disc back out like that clown course in Happy Gilmore

This is exactly went I pay the 40 bucks for the two year replacement plan. If anything happens to my unit I drive to Best Buy or Gamestop and swap it out on the spot.

Hope you get a speedy resolution, OP.
