Alright, this has been bothering me lately. I'm not sure why, but it has. When using commas to seperate things in a list which is correct.


I like to eat ham sandwiches, turkey sandwiches, and roast beef sandwiches.

or

I like to eat ham sandwiches, turkey sandwiches and roast beef sandwiches.


I have heard that both ways are correct from different people. It seems to me that the first sentence would be the correct way, but I'm not sure.
 
Depends on where you are as well because Brits do it one way and Americans do it the other. Also, style books change the rule almost every 5 years so just know that one day you'll be right and the next you'll be wrong. Pick one and keep with it.
 
Yes, either way is acceptable. Personally I also prefer including the comma before the word "and" because it makes the spoken pause explicit and is simply more uniform.
