Sometimes?

Gamers are the most childish group in existence today.

Its like they are still 8 years old and forever will be. The moment they don't get what they want they pitch a fit like a little kid would.

I'm finding it hard to relate these days.

It's going to be hard to watch in another couple of decades. Then most of us will be 40 or 50 and yelling obscenities and whinging on YouTube because we paid $50 and it's not working day 1.

I do wish video gamers carried themselves with a bit more grace, and more self awareness. That bad behaviour reflects poorly on other gamers. Of course I'm not calling out all video gamers but some of the comments can be really childish and offensive and people think it's funny because it's the Internet and you can get away with it. It's sad when people use their own name like Facebook logins and people still carry on like a baby.

So i just came back from work and servers still offline?

A few of the official Tweets are giving the impression that the community features are creating more network traffic than planned, so even without being at what was planned for capacity, it's pushing things over the edge. Chances are they're figuring out a hotfix, so unless network traffic drops a lot, things will be disrupted until that gets handled.

My feeling so far with playing the game offline and going through the tour is: it sure as hell feels like Project Windmill Racing - the pastoral countryside spin-off to PGR. I would guess this is no surprise seeing that key people from Bizarre are at Evolution now.

IMO it plays really fucking good, already one of my favorite feeling balances between sim and arcade. It doesn't quite feel like any one PGR game per se, it has its own tuning for sure. I agree with opinions that the track designs are extremely good for replayable arcade racing to continually shave time, and I also like the unpredictable and aggressive AI. It doesn't feel like I am competing with pace cars.

My biggest misgiving so far, is that I am kind of thinking it's going to feel light on content with 5 environments, all of which share a similar theme of being in the countryside outside of major cities. (Unless I missed a track variation that veers close to an urban location.) After sampling them, I already feel the need for at least two more locations to provide contrast.

But so far I definitely agree this is a kind of arcade racer we don't get anymore, especially not with these production values.

Completely agree, environments not so much since i have been playing the tour (up to the Amateur cup) and I think I may have played the same track twice perhaps?

Im a little confused by the negative reviews but oh well.

I'm hoping the servers get up sooner than later, but my gut tells me we could be looking at well into the weekend or further before this is resolved.

Hope that's not the case but I'm preparing for the worst. Especially if the resolution involves adding and configuring additional servers rather than just modifying existing ones.

Yeah, I'm done feeling sorry for the PS Plus Edition crowd. I paid real money for this game, how about getting the online to work so i can experience the game the way it was meant to be played? Its so frustrating.

your post goes well with this one:

It does seem like this is a game for people who just want a skill based racer free of much of the cruft of 2014 console games.
That is exactly what this feels like and I love it.

It's the lack of all that modern "fluff" and "you're awesome - let's fill some bars" that appeals to me, I think.

The sense of speed in this game is unlike anything I've encountered in a racing-game. I am gripping my controller way too hard and cramping my hands thanks to this. But the feel, man. The feel. I love it.

Driveclub, I love you. Online might not be working yet, India might be a bit underwhelming visually ( especially in comparison to, say, Norway ), but the feel and sense of speed is pitch-perfect. And that is the most important thing.

I love you.

Are the collision penalties really that bad?

I was playing no HUD so I never noticed. But yesterday I turned them on a bit so I could see what all the talk was about. I never got collision penalties for the little bumps that I did or that the AI would do to me. I didn't have a problem with them at all. I got some but it was always my fault for either taking a turn to fast or the AI hitting me because I took a turn to slow. It always felt fair though.

The Gametrailers review convinced me to get this. I've always been a fan of race games as I actually find them relaxing. I'm not always in a mode where I have to win first place. So it's nice to kick back and enjoy the race.

Man, even when they get the servers up for people who bought it, I feel like they're just going to break again when the PS+ version comes out.

Very light bumps: No penalty

Moderate bumps: Fame penalty, no speed penalty

Heavy crashes: 5 second speed penalty

I think it's fair too, speed limit duration also balance accordingly, shorter for light mess up, longer for big one.
But I hope they let us create penalties off room just for some casual madness race fun.

The servers not working are fine by me to be honest. 2 midterms in the next 2 days, and the servers being down is making me actually not feel like I'm missing anything by delegating the entire days to studying.

God yes, the menus/way-finding/music are so sharp... Really well executed.

It's great.

Although I don't know if it's a bug or what but the music volume during a race changes based on the car view. In cockpit view the music can be barely heard, but dash or bumper it's a more appropriate level.

And the other thing that bugs me is the half second hitch when passing a finish line when the camera view changes to that external chase shot. It should be fluid and smooth across the finish line for our recorded videos.

Delay the game to optimize social components.
Launches, no social components due to shite servers.

Oh boy.

Having fun with single player I suppose, although it's incredibly easy so far. Very repetitive too.

The abuse being casually tossed at Evo on Facebook and Twitter makes me really sad. I know people are pissed they can get online, I mean, so am I. But Rushy and team are probably busting their ass to fix this and people are just saying all kinds of terrible and untrue things.

Sometimes the gaming community disappoints me.

I agree. I do think the 'level' of abuse and 'where' it's expressed/how is the main problem.

Perhaps though at times the problem is people have been burnt too many times. Months after TLOU:R, I can't even play the game online with it's many problems. It is in fact, broken. Nor have other bugs yet been fixed.

With DriveClub, I personally can 'tolerate', albeit not very happy about it not running properly 'at launch' even though this should not be the case. They've had beta's. They've got a good idea of server demand due to pre-order sales etc. Add the fact that the UK seem to have gotten the short end of the shaft.....

So.... where does the line get drawn between us, 'the gamers' accepting or not accepting getting the piss taken/taken advantage by developers profiting off broken games/broken elements within the game they are selling? Where is our guarantee that the game will run months down the line 'not broken' and what the hell can we do about it if they don't?

God yes, its so jarring when the rest of the game is completely smooth.

God dammit they need to fix the servers!
I NEED to make GAFClub (Random Silly Animal) Club or my weekend of beating people in Club Lazy Panda or Speedmaster Sloth will not come TRUE!!

I wonder if they would decide to temporarily disable challenges and get the MP portion working. Would at least allow people to level up the club and try some head to head racing

I feel for Rushy and the others at EVO but they need to sort this out fast.
It's been 2 days and it's stopping me from enjoying certain aspect of the game.
I did not add over 75 people and more soon to my friend list for nothing.

My dependence on "racing lines" will have to be broken for this game. I hope the server issues get fixed because I want to start going head to head with some of you. If there is a "hit all of the cars in the race" head to head then I can win that one.

Honestly, the mix of music and scenery combined with the high speed racing (which is really proving quite satisfying) is really hitting the right string for me. While the game plays nothing like it I can't help but recall the great moments of playing Ridge Racer here. The feel and atmosphere of playing the game is part of the experience and I love it. I like the event setup quite a bit as well and really appreciate how fast the game loads. You're just jumping in and out of events like nothing.

I'm definitely concerned about the AI becoming annoying later on, though.

I couldn't agree more, I cannot recall the last racing game that has grabbed my attention like this one has. It has that just one more event hook that I haven't felt in a while. I feel like I'm in bizarro land with some of the mediocre reviews out there. It's an insult to the great work Evolution has done.

Drive safely then. :-D

Anyway, servers are down again!?

The problem is drivers will become real aggressive once you enter "late game".

They'll ram you like there is no tomorrow causing you to ram others and get penalties. It's annoying.
