probably because it came out after Forza Horizon 2? Because of FOrza Horizon 2, Drive Club was a little bit of a letdown to me. Drive Club is good, but FH2 has just spoiled me. The open world aspect of FH2 has made it seem much better than DriveClub to me. Of course not being able to play online yet with DriveClub hasn't helped either. I would prefer to race with people online than the solo stuff that I have only been able to play so far in DC.

Frankly open world racing games seem a little behind the times.

Going to post my impressions here again, incase anyone missed.

Ok, so initial impressions after 5 races with pad and then wheel.

Can't get online 8).

Aside from that, plays fabulous with the pad but more importantly for me, the T100 wheel i'd just bought. So for anyone on the fence about this particular wheel, don't be! No PS button is the only thing missing, and it feels great, arguably better than my old ForceGT. The FB is really great, and you can adjust the amount via the game itself. I've made a few adjustments to the button mapping so its now perfect for me. Like i say, its plays awesome with the wheel!

Graphically its as good as i was hoping and expected. The image quality IMO is absolutely terrific, there are some things that don't get covered by the AA techniqes used but for me, these are nitpicking hugely. The lighting is gobsmacking, truly gobsmacking, so smooth with the transition from day to night etc etc. Color banding is really smooth which really further add to the believeablity. AF is not the longest in the world but it is a smooth transition and not jarring, and while driving its not something you'll notice. Cars look fabulous, especially cockpit, for me i found the bonnet cam to be my ideal choice (i'll miss out on the swanky windscreen reflection but hey ho). Popup/detail transitions are also very minimal and again its something i just don't or didn't notice.

The sound is lovely! Only tried 2 cars but what i heard was great! I'm on a Sony 5.1 sys with Q Acoustics speakers. The change in audio depending on what camera you use is a really nice touch and add a nice layer of realism. In the end i ended up putting the ingame music at 30% i don't normally race with music in other racers but i just found having something playing underneath just intensified the experience a little bit more.

The A.I i'm finding to be pretty well behaved so far, with no signs of any follow the leader type routines. Yes they can be agressive but nothing ...unfair?

Loading of everything is superb, zero complaints from me, restarts especially.

So there we have it, all this before the weather update lands! SOme of the reviews based on my own thoughts i think have been incredibly harsh but each to their own. My own is the one that counts.

Hopefully the online portion gets going soon so i can get all sorted with my GAF bums from team Cunning Stunts!

In a way, I feel open world racing games are almost a sign of lack of creativity. Keeping tight, technical courses over various environments next to just letting players drive around until they run into a race feels almost lazy to me developer wise. It's the reason why I wasn't such a big fan of Forza Horizon or TDU2.

just played it for a couple of hours.. all my doubt about this game after the reviews came out were unfounded..

The gameplay, sense of speed, sound, graphics.. unparalleled. I just bought the season pass for this game.

I enjoyed this as a single player game because the servers seem to be down at launch, can't wait to have all the additional content when the online component comes back.

I was going to buy it without trying the PS+ demo since i have a feeling i will like the game and 40€ euro seems like a good deal. But i lack 3€ in my account and Sony is still saying that my credit card data is not correct. It's the only site that refuses to accept my credit card data... weird. So it's back to waiting until i can buy a prepaid card on Friday. With any luck, the demo will be up by then.

Also, it's nice to see positive impressions. I guess i was out of the loop when it comes to racing games. I didn't know open world racing was "the thing" now and circuit based racing was ancient history. I actually like circuit based racing.

I don't know... I like Horizon 2 but I'm tired of open worlds. Everything have open worlds, I just want to choose a car and drive for beat the record on the circuit. That's why I like Driveclub more than FH2 and that's why I'm hyped with Project Cars.

Agree with your stuff, especially the T100. Was skeptical about it as I'm coming from a DFGT and G27, but it feels very solid. Only thing I don't care for is the pedal base.

By the way - is there any way to use the Share button off the wheel? It seems to have a start/select button, but they don't do anything for me. Checked the controller settings and didn't see an option for it

There's nothing wrong with circuit based racing, and there will be never anything wrong with it.

The reviews criticizing the game because of that are out of their mind. Not all arcade racers need to be open world and there's absololute no reason to give a racing game a lower point because it lacks it.

I personally don't want all race games to turn into a GTA race mission.

Just did the 1st Canada time trail in the mini and fuck me this game is incredible.

Sound design and sense of speed is amazing. Only played an hour so far but so far so good. Driving feels great. Graphics haven't disappointed (even if a little inconsistent at times) and it's a blast to play.

Oh and everyone needs to go cockpit mode, HUD off, controller vibration on high, music volume 50/60% & sound effects max. Amazing. Just amazing. Audiovisual tour de force.

I tried loads of countries and none of them had it. Though I don't think Asia dishes out free PS+ trials anyways.

Friday it is. Gah.

I feel for you bro. This shit is amazing and addicting as hell, although I've decided to put it down for now until the servers are online to not miss out on too much club xp.

uber tight.
HUD will be off this evening.

The ONLY thing I dont like about no HUD is when you are going for a time challenge you have to finish the race to see your time. Usually I would restart if I knew I would not make it in time. No HUD, no way to tell how close you are.

I suck at driving but man this game is awesome. This is my first time really playing a racing game, not regretting it at all.
