1. : No Man's Sky
I believe in No Man's Sky so much right now. It tells you a lot it's my most antcipated game over the next game from one of my favourite studios, of which development is being led by the two folk (Druckley) who made my favourite game ever (The Last of Us).
I like that - besides the main goal of trying to reach the centre of the universe - what you do in it is ambigous. It's completely up to you how to play the game. Just explore, do quests, etc. It's not dissimilar to Minecraft when you think about it. And this is coming from someone who, as much as I respect what Mojang has done, just can't get on with Minecraft.
But the fact it's sci-fi helps. And that I'm also a fan of Joe Danger.
Won't go into a long story, but the broad scope and scale of what Hello Games is attempting to do for such a small studio is impressive. And if they pull this off and do it well, god knows what we're going to end up playing (hopefully) sometime next year.
2. : Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
As gutted as I am we won't ever see Amy Hennig do another Uncharted again, A Thief's End is in the best of hands. Two Uncharted alumni and the co-leads for one of the finest games of all time return for what seems like the series' grand farewell (or at least, Naughty Dog's farewell to the series).
Druckmann and Straley have proven their chops together on The Last of Us and now it's time to see how that transfers into Uncharted. That said, they form half of perhaps the core team of one of the finest action games ever in UC2 (the other half being Hennig and Richard Lemarchand) so there's a bit more to add to the hype train.
And with the showing of gameplay recently at PlayStation Experience, showing open-ended gameplay, a new improved AI system which seems to have taken its cues from TLOU, a darker story but seemingly still maintaining the humour of the series and more, this seems a no-brainer.
TL;DR - NAUGHTY DOG. DRUCKLEY. BOOM.
3. : Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
For perhaps the first time since I got into the series, my main reason for being excited for the next Metal Gear isn't the story (though I am excited for that too), but the gameplay. Ground Zeroes was a fantastic taster in regards to what The Phantom Pain could do in regards to open-ended gameplay.
Not to mention, the Fox Engine. Dang.
4. : Rise of the Tomb Raider
It's a shame it's not coming to PS4, but I have an Xbox One so it's not a dealbreaker for me.
I really, really enjoyed Tomb Raider 2013. It's such a terrific game and one I really enjoyed. It'll be interesting to see where Crystal Dynamics takes the series with this one, but I know it, if TR '13 is an indicator, will be a fun ride.
5. : Persona 5
Persona 4 got me into the series hard when it released in Europe in 2009 on PlayStation 2, sinking 20 hours in (got stuck at Kanji). I've sunk more than half of that into P4: Golden on Vita at 40 hours (stuck again at Naoto).
Again, no brainer. Can't wait for this one.
(Also: DOHOHOHOHOHO PERSONA 5 IN FIFTH)
6. : Quantum Break
I am such a huge fan of Alan Wake, even though I don't deal with most horror games very well (it wasn't a horror game as such, but apathetically, it felt it). Now that Remedy is doing an action game similar to its early days with Max Payne and adding an interesting twist to it is up my alley.
In Sam Lake, I Trust.
7. : Yoshi's Wooly World
ADORBS. That's all you need.
8. : Batman: Arkham Knight
Like the few hours I spent with Asylum and loved City to completion (should finish Asylum, really). If Knight is anything like City and thensome, this is most likely going to be high up my GOTY list.
9. : Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Not in the UK until January. Also, it comes out on MY BIRTHDAY! MY BIRTHDAY!
10. : Xenoblade Chronicles X
Initially, it was one of two reasons why I was keeping my Wii U (the other being Bayonetta 2). Now it's one of several reasons why I'm keeping my Wii U to the point it's managed to save itself from being sold off.
Can't wait for this to drop, the Zone of the Enders fanboy in me will feel right at home with this. Now to get cracking on the original, assuming I can find my copy somewhere.
Honorable mentions: Ori & The Blind Forest, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, The Legend of Zelda Wii U, The Division, Rainbow Six: Siege, Bloodborne, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, The Witcher III.
