iOS Gaming Dec/Jan: GET

Superchroma has wait timers for ship building. Sigh..I can deal with grinding and dual currency and ads, but timers are the kiss of death for me. I'll still give it a shot though

And I'd recommend checking out Particle Mace. Reviewed the PC version last January, it's really fun. Getting multi-kills is really satisfying, especially once you start learning how to control your mace better and can pull some advanced manuevers. Going to be $2.99, no IAP

Hmmm...maybe some one could gift that to me. ;)

That's a HUGE step up from an iPad 1 (and only second to the iPad Air 2 in specs and iPhone 6). You won't regret it. Many of us have the mini 2 here.

Thanks for the input, I'll need some game recommendations when I get home in a hour or so. I'm a newb for ios games so I'm sure there's hundreds of games I have missed out on that are worth my time.

No problem. You would have not been too happy with a 1st gen iPad. I'd imagine that many of the newer releases wouldn't work on it.

Shameless thread plug:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=921676

I have to update it with releases from the last two months. Those would include Hero Emblems, Space Marshals, Sol Invictus, Socioball, Shadowmatic, Pry, Gunbrick, and others

Rex Rocket got pushed to Feburary. Here's a new screenshot

Damn...I mean, I'm all for PC ports, but if you have to practically recreate a controller using a quarter of the screen to make the game touch-friendly...

Now I see why this isn't coming to iPhone. Would be way too cramped to play on a smaller screen

Yikes, I was interested in this but those controls .... Not sure how well it would work even on iPad.

Do you know if it's going to have controller support? And coming to Android too? If yes to both, I'd wait to play it on my Shield Tablet.

It's an awesome game, so I'll still be buying it. I did enlarge the pic on my Mini and the button placement seems pretty comfortable.

I find it shocking that there isn't a working free screen recorder/mirroring app for iOS.

There's several mirroring apps like Reflector, but they usually cost around $15.

Shou.TV seems to have the only gaming-oriented screen recording/streaming app, but it's not in the app store so you have to sideload it. Worse still, I have never been able to download it successfully; I've tried from 3 different sites and I always get the "Unable to Download App" error.

I just want to record a few minutes of an iPhone game, is that so much to ask?!

Will Particle Mace utilize MFi controller support?

Hey guys If you own Tail Drift, DO NOT update. It just went F2P with energy meters and ads. Thankfully I read the release notes. Sad, another good game turns to this crap.

EDIT: Just read some comments from the dev that owners who have it get 300,000 coins, apparently enough to buy every plane and not have to worry about the fuel system.

Still skeptical but at least their doing something (and supposedly is offering to address those who don't currently have it on their phone via email).

I tried Rex Rocket on PC. I found it pretty bad. It might be one of those games that "gets good" after a really slow and ponderous start, but I didn't really bother to find out.

I figure it'll be pretty unplayable with touch controls.

If you had Nihilumbra in the past, but for some reason didn't fell in love with it or you couldn't play it anymore because it was broken on iOS8, be sure to redownload it.
To me, the added (really damn cool) voiceovers, the revamped graphics, the remastered soundtrack etc...(and the fact that now it works on iOS8) did the trick...I'm really in love with the game now, once again and more than ever.
The story part really jumped on another level, Bastion style.

Woah. Sounds like an immediate redownload. Thanks for the heads up.

Let me know what you think.
I liked it but really didn't fell in love the first time I got it...now I'm really addicted and already progressed more in two days than I did in weeks when I first bought it.

Forgot how huge that game is. Still figuring out how to make room for it.

So disappointed in Sword & Poker Pay to play.
Konami have totally ruined that series now with their greed.
Feels good to delete it from my iPad.

Edit: added the game to my 52 Games in a year challenge.

9. Sword and Poker Adventures (iOS)
Abandoned this piece of shit when I reached world 3, January 22nd. Maybe 5-10 hours?
Having been a big fan of Sword and Poker I was surprised to see this stealthy release by Konami.
Sadly the game is a big turd. And destroys everything that was good with the previous games.
Freemium (pay to win) to the extreme. Don't let this soil your hardware.

Kind of really loving Skyward. Just hit 89 steps. Can't put it down. Wonderful change of pace for me from Hero Emblems :3

I've always wanted Mark of the Ninja to be ported. Think it would be a good fit for mobile. Haven't played Ronin but maybe it'll satisfy some of the desire.

Looks a lot like Gunpoint.
I remember my first reaction was kind of like Gunpoint with Ninjas, due to the pixel style, crashing through windows, jumping into enemies to stun them. But with all the additions and improvements, the game developed into something with a unique style all its own and so much potential for expanding the mechanics. I can't think of any other turn based stealth action game like this, expect for Klei's Invisible Inc. Swinging through a window, shooting one guy, lunging at another, deflecting a bullet, striking down the last guy, is so satisfying. Weaving between laser sights, timing your attacks, disarming enemies, the gameplay is just really fun

I think a Mark of the Ninja port would end up looking like that Rex Rocket screenshot. The controls are just too complex to be made touchscreen-compatible.

Ronin is going to be a breeze to control though. It's all big icons and dragging to enemies and walls to use your grapple hook. A mouse and keyboard works fine, but touchscreen will be even better

Regarding Ronin, Devolver Digital has been on such a roll with me that I'm sure I'll love it. They can't lose; I even highly enjoyed Gods Will Be Watching, which wasn't necessarily panned but definitely wasn't praised.

I just wish they would have done a little more with the presentation on Ronin. The backdrop could go miles in separating itself from Gunpoint and just doesn't.

Regarding Mark of the Ninja, I agree. It requires some really precise controls that would be too cluttered, particularly on phones.

And a big release to close out January! Crescent Moon's Exiles is releasing on IOS next week

It's a good game but a little disappointing (been playing the Android version). Big open world but sparcely populated and an underwhelming story. AI also could use some work.

They've been promising more content updates, however, so it may get better. Just don't expect a Mass Effect for iOS. I would say, other than graphics, it's not even on par with the Aralon / Shadowlands games.

Honestly thought with all the feedback on Android that they'd hold back on the iOS release a little longer.

Yeah, Skyward is pretty sweet, I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would.
Shame that it doesn't have an option to remove the ads.

124 for me.

It's an odd game, in that the better you do the more difficult it becomes. Some of the patterns I've unlocked are very difficult to traverse.
