The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

Lets say hypothetically most beat it in 5 hours, which wont happen. It took them 4 years to make this game. Your asking for double length, so you would rather it take 8 years for the devs to make the game. Unless of course you dont care about graphics. But we all know if the game was 18 hours long and the graphics werent polished we would all be bitching about how poor it looks for a ps4 exclusive. You guys are a little selfish no?

Oh my God.

Personally from what I've played of it, the game appears to be a single player story driven gamers dream. Feels almost old school in a good way given how multiplayer tends to drive most triple A titles. The game visuals really create atmosphere missing in many generic shooters.

FFS. See you tomorrow GAF. Hopefully the thread isn't locked by then. Hope to get some more impressions from people who have actually played the game.

Impressions from a mate:

Just finished this after around 10 hours of playtime. So it's not the longest game, though to clock in at 5 hours you'll have to rush through and hardly enjoy the wonderfully crafted world and all of its details.

Both story and gameplay-wise the game ramps up noticeably towards the end, with some interesting twists and amazing gunfights. Definitely looking forward to a sequel of some sorts - or even DLC for that matter.

What stands out mostly for me is how coherent it all feels. As long as you don't mind spending a third of the time walking around (beautiful scenery) and another third watching and listening (to unravel an exciting story), you'll have an absolute blast - and some of the weapons are immensely satisfying to use :D

Is it worth 60 Euros? Tough to say, there isn't much to come back for after you finished the game. Anyone still on the fence may want to wait for a pricedrop.

I wake up to see the very reason why the other threads were closed in this exact thread.

This shit has become tedious, see you guys on the other side of Friday.

Silly me, I thought I could find more opinions since yesterday but no, you're still talking about the playtime of that ******* walkthrough on YT.

That's really not much time at all. That's shorter than even short games like Uncharted or God of War.

he skips everything he can skip. Thats what the article title said (havent watched the video for obvious reasons).

If that is indeed the case and he skips everything that he can, then 5 hours for a speedrun is seriously not equivalent to a short game.

Have you skipped everything you can in a metal gear solid game?

You know, I heard there was another game that was pretty short. It was also pretty cinematic heavy. It turned out pretty good though.

it took me 16 hours to beat TLOU my first time around, after that I beat it twice on different difficulty settings. nothing to complain if The Order will mach the length and replay-value.

Impressions from a mate:

those sound pretty good though. guess I'll wait for reviews, 60€$ for 10 hours is a maybe, 60$ for 5 hours a no given my current financial situation and the fact that I tend to go through games pretty fast.

The thing that amuses me about threads like this is that when people have a positive feeling about a game that they haven't played, then it's fine. If people have a negative feeling about a game that they haven't played, then validation/justification is demanded.

I honestly don't know what point you are trying to make. You are talking about something that you admit no one is making an issue of. Why does it matter in the slightest that no one is making speed runs of The Order? There is no correlation between speed run times of a game and its overall quality or value anyway.

They are not playing the game like most people will. They are completionist, the opposite of the speed runners, and their completion time is equally as applicable.

If you don't get my point by now then I'm not going to even bother. And for your last comment. I'm on the same boat. I'm not playing the game like most people will. I take my time. That is why I like good story games and exploring things and graphics. But I'm gonna end it here. I'm not going to have this thread get close for trying to prove a point on speed runs.

Incredible.

15 hour average isn't short, it took me 18 on hard.

So are you just going to ignore the other playthroughs and focus on the one with the shortest time?

Give it a rest already. The game won't be 5 hours unless you're purposely rushing through.

I took the one that I could see the playthrough, and after looking at the video I can confirm that he played just like most people will play. The people claiming 10+ hours are completionist. If you are the type of person that looks into every corner of every room then I have no doubt, and have not denied, that you'll get 10+ hours out of the game. Unfortunately that type of person does not represent me, or the general public.

There is a big distinction between what any individual person would like vs. what the gaming community taken as a whole would like. People are getting upset because they are confusing their own personal tastes with that overall community. Nobody is saying that you can't or won't like The Order 1886, but can you really recommend the game to someone who likes to just play a game normally without looking for extra stuff to do?

if a game is 8-10 hours but great quality that is enough for me. Almost a bonus if it doesn't outstay its welcome.

But short games that are less likely to warrant multiple replays do become physical purchases, and usually move to the top of the backlog in order for any potential trade-in to happen while prices are good. Helps keep the effective cost down too.

Great for you, but do you think that attitude represents the larger gaming community? I think most people would think 8-10 hours is a bit short for a game. Maybe I could see if a game was absolutly at the top of its class an exception could be made. Unfortunately for the Order neither gameplay or story appear to be that good.

I hope reviews arent impacted by the price... They should definitly mention the value, but it's pretty silly to take that into account and then it ends up being under $40 in a month.

The pricing is not Rads fault. They made the game they wanted to make, then Sony slapped a price on it. It's a shame they get destroyed for that.

Thank you that's exactly what I want from this game.

By rushing through you mean playing the game at a moderate pace and not looking for collectables.

It's not a speedrun, no. But it's not how i enjoy a game. To each his own i guess.
If the game is good, then i would gladly pay 10$ an hour.

My biggest cencern is still the amount of playtime. I don't mind well done QTE-s. But i do know i don't like to be taken out of immersion by cutscenes. I hear that they are done really well, but still...

I'll wait for reviews. But i think i'll buy it anyway.

The price is absolute normal for a new game.
What's the issue here? I can complete Resident Evil 1, 2, etc. in ~2 1/2 hours.
Was it worth the full price? Hell yeah!
Can't understand the "not worth / worth the full price" nonsense.

Man times have changed I paid £70 for sonic and knuckles for the mega drive in 1992. That must be over £100 in today's money also I'm really showing my age here lol.

Oh my God.

I understand his point of view. I've just put 50 hours in another game and 20h of that was chasing the platinum trophy which I can't get because the devs fucked up and it doesn't unlock. I'll gladly spend $60 on a much shorter game which can give me several hours of very polished fun and most likely a 100% completion.

Man, I paid $100 for a bottle of whisky we drank with friends in an hour. I must be a monster.

Okay, some questions, and I'm not going through a 30 page thread to find my answers.

First, how's the gore?

What happened to the "soft bodies" Pessino was talking about on Twitter before release?

Everything that moves in the game is simulated using soft bodies and a very accurate material-in-medium model.."

"As for destruction, it is not a "destroy the whole world" game but there's going to be plenty of shit to break or blow up."

Is this in the game? If so, does this have a meaningful impact on your experience or is it barely noticable?

Thanks!

It's an absolute minefield trying to figure out whether this is worth your time right now. Will have to wait a couple of weeks after release, the dust to settle and to see review scores combined with Gaf impressions. I really want it to be awesome because the lore etc just looks so cool.

Honestly I don't know. Uncharted doesn't seem to be much more than that, and seems to be quite popular. Yes they added MP in the latter two games but it wasn't in the first one.

I doubt my view is representative of the wider gaming public, but I don't think it is uncommon

Did you get all that from youtube, how boring.

And yes, 8-10 hours is enough. However that is my opinion, others will have their own personal tastes.

Can't understand the "not worth / worth the full price" nonsense.

There are free games where you can spend 1000+ hours.

So yeah, people are right about being upset on $60 6 hour games.

Things are very different from RE1/2 times.

Well I was pointing out that people don't want to spend £40 on a AAA single player game. but back in the day we paid over double that for single player games.

Wasn't to keen on this title but was certainly hoping it would turn out good. Not feeling very confident after reading this and especially the spoiler thread.

Hoping reviews turn out to be fantastic as they will decide my purchase.
