Halo |OT 24| In Before the Locke

I wonder if we'll ever be able to ___ in a Halo game...

So many times I've seen ___ be a thing in other games, but why not Halo?
Yeah, idk either. Halo is Microsoft's flagship property, yet we've seen no real advancements to matchmaking and partying up with others since 2004, over 10 years ago. This isn't something fans unite en masse over for some reason..

Interesting, to say the least. Then you have Nintendo fans applauding Nintendo or acting as apologists for not implementing basic online features in 2015. Fascinating stuff here.

Didn't even read. Don't worry about it, the entire internet did the same thing, too.
It's literally the first sentence, haha.
lol I didn't phrase that correctly

I did read it and having to check in online (especially every 24 hours) isn't really something I ever want on a console either. I know you said that it's up to the game devs as well but when it's promoted as a feature then it's just egh. The console itself was being shown off as an "Always Online" system despite the 24 hour check in deal. Which is part of what caused everybody to flip.

Has anyone played MCC very resently because I am having problems trying find someone in 4 playlist now.

SEARCHING FOR PLAYERS...

Being down under and playing when the US sleeps means we're pretty much forced to play ranked slayer or H2A almost exclusively. Solo matches fine but gets lots of quitters, parties up to 4 in size match fairly well but take longer and more restricted playlists aforementioned where finally large parties of 5-8 break the system until the announced patch drops in a small number of days.

That's my last week of experience playing about every other night.

Anyone else feel they should do more with the Prophet's Bane? Making it a Legendary weapon that only enables you to move faster should just be how the regular Sword is buffed given the improved mobility options, so the Legendary version should do something more unique and OP.

Could make the Prophet's Bane way more interesting. It would also provide additional uses for the Sword other than offense, such as defending a teammate as they pull a flag, etc. Put a quick drain on it like the Plasma Pistol.

EDIT:
I wonder if they will have a classic playlist that has as much of the old weapons and stuff in it as possible
Your post made me think of that Sword idea again lol. A classic playlist would be cool though.

Oft hope is born when all is forlorn.
Yeah. It's terrible that once you're in a video there's no easy way to get back to a home page. Frustratingly laggy, as well.

I know right, at first I thought I was dumb. But its actually horrible. Hard to find videos too. Wanted to watch H2A Epilogue video again. And its fucking no where.

I am still hoping for a spear. It works like holding a turret. You go third person and it's a one hit weapon. Also, you can throw it really far!

Integrate it into the flag for CTF and I am so down.

Yup, and put it on a quick 5 second respawn with touch return since you'd be able to throw it like an OB in H4. Less distance though, and not third person.

This idea of a flag-spear was in The Sprint too, so hopefully we get to experience it.

Well that's the last time I ever browse HaloGAF while drunk

Also that new HtT was pretty good. Really excited to see where it will go next.

The other day me and a friend were playing side by side on the Halo 4 playlist and nearly every game he would be playing and my map wouldn't even begin to start loading until around the 9:50-10:00 minute mark, then it would say I joined the game on his screen and I got to play as normal. Weird. My Xbox is at his house so idk if it is still an issue or if it was just that night things were screwy.

Reach beta was incredible times

Powerhouse toilets
Spartans vs Elites
Generator Defense

So goooood

Ah, yes, basically that was Microsoft's entire problem in my opinion. That and their horrible canned responses on social media lol. And Don Mattrick.

Hmmm... Team game where you only get points for killing the last person that killed you? Not counting the first kill, of course.
Miscommunication was like their super power

Gametype idea sounds interesting but definitely needs fleshing out.

Yes

I'd actually be down with the sword as a weapon giving a slight speed boost by default. Nice idea dude. As for the Prophets Bane, a block ability or throw would be kickass. Especially if throwing it stuck it inside it's target whether it's a wall, vehicle, butt, etc. What with bodies and weapons interacting with each other now it wouldn't be that much of a stress.

Halo 6: Call of BattleMiners

Flag Spear sounds amazing

Reach > Halo 4

In terms of maps, weapons, game types, forge, and etc. That just puts 4 to shame. Although I'm kind of interested on how Ricochete would play any different/better being in Reach?

This huntthetruth shit is getting freaky.
It's really losing the tension to me, since we all know that ONI S2 participants with clones for what now, 13,5 years since Fall of reach came out? They really need to get to a point

@That XBO Always Online thing: Just look how people hyped Destiny and it sold pretty well, even though everybody knew it's always online. It was just a way too huge hate train against XBO. I would still prefer having all games in an online library without changing disc (I can do that now, but I have to miss all limited/collectors editions if I do that!), family sharing and huge online sales like Steam.
They stated you could do that 24h ping with your mobile phone, but their PR just couldn't stand the hate

Some of the ideas were good, some were terrible. 'Need to go online once every 24 hours" was bullshit, even if you could ping with your phone. It was blatantly anti-consumer.

I agree having a library accessible without needing to change discs would be convenient, but I'm also glad I have the option to resell games if I want to.

And let's face it, we'd never get sales like Steam. This is Microsoft.

Depends

Would you be able to throw the ball?

I'm not so sure those are really comparable.

Destiny sold well because it had a huge studio behind it with an awesome track record for their games. They hyped the game to hell and back making promise after promise about what the game would be like. Between that and their kickass hype train (PR department), there's no way anybody couldn't be hyped for it. The game still does well enough because despite its (glaring) flaws it has a really solid core game and an addicting progression and item system.

I don't think that many people were very well aware of the Always Online functionality. It was not a very prominently broadcasted aspect of the game (I remember chatting with a lot who had no idea what was up even a couple months before launch).

Blue makes some nice points as well

One thing I really hope 343 does with H5 is include a video or series of videos which explain all the back story leading up to 5.

They could have a few 5 minute long videos explaining the different "chapters" of Halo's lore. For example:

- Chapter 1: Ancient Humans and the Human-Forerunner war.
- Chapter 2: Pre-Halo; The lead up to the Human-Covenant war and the creation of the Spartan Program.
- Chapter 3: The Halo Games; The story from Reach to Halo 4
- Chapter 4: After Halo 4; all the stuff in the escalation comics etc.

They could probably quite easily condense all the basics for each of the chapters into ~5 minutes. Would be extremely helpful for those who aren't familiar with the lore, or have just kinda stopped paying attention. Would also solve any possible complaints about being too dense to follow.

Given that Locke will be hunting down MC I would have thought there will be a recap of all his exploits, and an expo dump bringing the universe up to speed.

In your video game include 20 minutes of (optional but narratively necessary - "Would also solve any possible complaints about being too dense to follow.") preamble?
That's not how a quality narrative works.

To be fair, what else are they going to do? Unless they just disregard half of Halo's lore and not include it. The best way to do it IMO would be a big (optional, you can choose which chapters to watch) lore dump at the start which brings everyone up to speed on the Halo universe.

They can't be explaining everything as the player goes through the game or we'll be left with a bunch of Halo 4 Librarian cutscenes; a massive amount of lore squeezed into a small cutscene in the middle of the game's already somewhat difficult to follow story. A far better time would be before the game begins where players can have some time to figure out exactly what all that lore meant before being thrown into the story.

If they don't have the lore dump they have two options:

- Disregard the other lore which is clearly not going to happen.
- Explain everything during the game, which as I explained above is not a good option as shown by H4.

You make it about what's currently happening and you make what's currently happening be of high quality.
Anything else is to be lightly peppered in with references, if at all.

I once saw a Halo 101 video on Halo Channel. So they could probably make more of those and put it on Channel.
