Not a series I care about in the slightest, but I'm sure its a big get from them for sure, also weird as they didn't release Part 1, Manga did, and I think it was DVD only?

I have the First season in blu-ray ( Uk release )

Sorry about that, Manga have been very erratic recently, with DVD only releases and all that stuff so its hard to keep up. Hopefully we get some cool announcements from them, like a much needed release of Millennium Actress on Blu-ray, I've sent them enough messages about it! *wishful thinking*

Similar to the third Kyoto Animation Award, there were no works submitted to the 6th Kyoto Animation Award that merited a prize. At least one of the judges felt that one of the works submitted needed to be shown publicly (in a good way) and so they will consider pushing forward with it in the future (does not mean it may be animated; just that it may be published upon revisions).

A lot of people mock these awards because of the few winners, but given the quality of the ones that got encouragement awards, it's definitely true that there's few that deserve to win anything. I'm still waiting to see Violet Ever Garden in print though.

Yahari S2 - 08:

That was a nice climax to this arc. Not everything is resolved of course, but some nice character development was had.

I have a bad habit of coming here before watching a SNAFU episode, it's literally like dancing on a mine field. Gonna hit the gym, come back home, and watch the episode before heading out to school. From the impressions I saw here the episode is quite good. But aren't they always anyway? :p

I'm just glad that companies like Anime Ltd have popped up. The more stuff the merrier. MVM and Manga have really upped their game over the last few years too.

can everyone stop crying for like 5 minutes

I know. It gets insufferable. But Menma keeps it together somehow.
The show has a big heart and a tiny brain.

this could've been a nice show about sending a nice girl to heaven but it turned into a dumb love drama over a dead girl. This show is pretty creepy when you think about it. Dumb shy teens.

Understatement.

I'm glad I got to see this before it's gone from Crunchyroll. Good thing these creepy dudes finally got their dicks in their pants and wished for Menma to go to heaven. This is one of the weakest childhood friend groups in any anime that I've ever seen considering how both the elite high school kids didn't even help until the end. The finale was great since they finally stopped being selfish and wished for a proper end to it all. Overall it was an alright show but it had way too much melodrama. 3/5

You pointed out the main flaws with the show. Basically all the characters but Menma needed to grow the fuck up and up to the very end, they really didnt. But ultimately the shows heart was bigger than its brain and it ended very beautifully.

Chrno Crusade ep.1-3
Alright Cajun, this is s weird one for sure. (and old too!) Lots of action in the first two episodes and a little base knowledge of what Chrono and Rosette are and what they do. You can see where the romance would blossom bur when you're talking about
human vs. Devil relationship, it's gonna get rWal complicated real fast, damn
This should be an adventure... Oh, the closing theme is really good as well!

It is a bit strange, but the tone is about to shift dramatically. Emphasis on drama.
This show can hit very hard. I really like it a lot. Are you watching subbed or dubbed?

Sayonara Solitaire?

Might I interest you in the FictionJunction self cover version, performed at Yuki Kajiura Live Vol. #9.

Sorry, can't resist whenever a Kajiura song is brought up.

Edit: Well now I can't stop looping it myself.

Yep another Yuki Kajiura masterpiece shows itself.
I love the song too. The opening is honestly pretty great too.

It happened! It finally happened!

This is probably as close as Oregairu would get to having the best ending. Oh, and there was some drama as well. :p
Honestly, I felt like the last two episodes dragged, which lead to diminishing returns when it would all inevitably fall apart and Batman would need to ask for help. People on animesuki anyway seem to think that they're speeding through material too quickly, but the languid pacing of this current arc kind of effected the development of the characters, particularly because we see very little of Yukino.

Yeah aside from the occasional slip up here you are safe. I avoid reddit at all costs lmfao. Plus the community here feels a lot tighter

I do enjoy reading the 1000 word essays people write about each episode of OreGairu though. I'm pretty stupid at times and lots of things go over my head so its nice to get another perspective. Just annoyed at LN readers with unsolicited hint drops.

The only problem with these releases is the friggen' price! The first (and best part) of SAO with English Dubs on Blu-Ray (approx 15 episodes) is over $100 bucks! WTF?

Oh that sound be interesting. I started watching ep. 4 and had to shut it off or else I would keep going. I'm trying to finish up Golden Time right now for the day. Day before a long weekend means the office will be DEAD.....
Dubbed versions from your rec yesterday. It's odd becuase the voices often sound better than the annimation and coloring of the show, lol.

BTW, I won't post it because it is a huge Clannad After Story spoiler, but my God the below gif just got me all over again, damn that show, damn it..

These emotions are not supossed to keep bubbling back up, but I really wish there were more moments and stories as powerful as that to watch.

Oregairu aka Teenage SNAFU S2 08

They adapted this scene perfectly from the source material. Overall Studio Feel has been knocking it out of the park with the animation this season. Much better than season one. Out of all the romantic "comedy" anime I've watched, the amount of character development in Yahari for all the characters makes it stand out and the best of its genre. Good on Hachiman's VA for being able to convey all of that.

Can't wait for next episode as well. Has a few more of my favorite scenes in it. I have faith Studio Feel will be able to pull them off.

About Shikizaki's plan:
So, you understand that Shikizaki was a prophet. He was able to see in a future and find about the fact that in the future Japan will be conquered by other countries. I'm not sure was Shikizaki a patriot or he just wanted to change the future just for fun (like personal accomplishment) - but he decided to do something (well, kill it) about future shogunate of the country, cause Japan will fall due to weak government. Then begins he's masterplan - he created Kyotoryu and cursed swords which was needed to guide Shichika to where he ended. And while in the end future hasn't changed (cause next shogun after the one Shichika killed is from the same family) I still think some things changed - if in the future Kyotoryu will become common fighting style, then Japan has chances against agressors (well, it's just my thought, what we really have is an open end).

Some fun things I remember
Some part of Togame dying speach is carbon copy of words which she said when they were freezing going up the mountain in 6th ep.
If you're interested what Togame wanted to do with Shichika after they collect all swords - she doesn't knew it herself. There is a moment when princess Heitei says that "while Togame is good at thinking about things, she is as good about not thinking about them".
If you have a character with punchline "Cherrio" what means "goodbye", do you think that character will survive?)

If you have any other questions - you can try to ask me. I think the only part I don't remember right now is about
revolution by Togame's father and how it influenced Shikizaki's plan (I only remember that Togame's father doesn't wanted for history to change, that's why he did it)
.

One thing that stuck with me:
Was Togame cursed or something? As she died and that white snake withered away the cross on her eye went away. Did they ever explain that or do you kind of have to infer some shit?

That was probably symbolism of her wish to revenge her father and other hard feelings she had. And I still not sure about cross in her eye - some say that it appears when she enters stratege-mode (like she begins to come with masterplan), but there are some scenes where this logic don't work, so can't say anything for sure. May be it was something like - at the end she was able to be honest with herself (she expressed her honest love for Shichika)

I find the show really formulaic and uninteresting, especially this season.

You could make a flow-chart for how all the arcs start, progress, and resolve; it's all done in the same exact manner over and over again. When this second season started up I was hopeful for some more good anime, but I eventually found myself questioning why I even liked the show in the first place when I was literally falling asleep watching this season's episodes because it failed to grab my attention. I feel like the attitude from Yukino is forced and drawn out. Yui is a one-track character (gotta force that smile). The onee-san is kind of mysterious, but her meddling always goes nowhere. Hayama is kind of showing some change but still is basically the same. Hachiman repeats the same methods for the 100th time. The imouto is dependable. The one dude still looks and acts like a cute girl.

I know i'm an outlier here though. Maybe i'll just check out the LNs instead.

Wow, just wow that was hard to watch (in a good way).
Yup gotta agree with everyone here, just finished watching. Man this season there's a lot of stuff that I like but every week the one show I am looking forward to watching the most is this one. This week they really did a splendid job.
Finally Hachi opened up to those two. At first I felt like Yukino was gonna pull a bitch move, but in the end she only acted the way she did because she herself was scared of change. When she saw Hachi, the one person that she thought would never change, come and say those words to her she simply didn't know how to react, and the safe bubble that she had created simply burst.
Looking forward to seeing other people's analysis of this episode, because with this one we can dig quite deep and have a good discussion.

Yeah it was, I really liked it. I would have liked an OVA (or two) to finish it off.

Speaking of old(ish) shows that I wished got finished, BECK would have been fantastic. The show finished in a good place but I would love to see the rest of the story animated.

The arcs have been pretty much all about Batman in this season/what I assume are the later novels, which I think is fine. As an interesting character study, I think it fulfills the promise of being a "friendlier" or more palatable version of Aku no Hana or Watamote, where it's a self-hating protagonist who learns to connect with some aspect of the society that he despises.

For me, I find it to be a less subtle version of the Hyouka/Oreki arc - down to the fact that, as I suppose Shirobako has shown, the animators went to the trouble of deciding how to animate Batman's crying-anguish face. That's not a bad thing, but that's just what it is.

That's something they clearly thought about a lot. I bet you money the earlier gengas were much more elaborate in Hachiman's body language and somebody told them to tone it down.

I thought his expression was perfect.
It was an ugly cry that wasnt theatrical. Felt more realistic and suited to his character. Loved the bits where hachimans mouth was quivering before he let it all out.

firehawk12

Subete no aware
I agree that it was effective, if only because you simply don't see it in anime in this manner. Crying is usually much more "graceful", for lack of a better adjective. Even the great crying scene in Non Non Biyori - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHbIQY6E87A - still allows Renge to look "good" as she expresses how devastated she feels.

But it's also part of why this season has felt like melodrama, because it is playing up the Batman/Yukino conflict in order to drive the rest of this season (and what I believe are at least 4-5 volumes of the light novels). There just isn't room for subtlety given how the relationship between the characters have developed.

Yup. I liked it a lot
as ugly as it was when it happened I totally believed it was genuine, just like what he was asking for. We have never seen him cry before, he just doesn't seem to be the kind of guy that does it often anyway.
I think the whole episode was just perfect. The beginning scenes with the teacher, something that we aren't talking about much either were great too.
Also the small detail in the end when they are done talking and you see the moonlight descending on to Hachi as he was looking up, as if he had been enlightened.
AOTS for me still, and if they keep it up I'm sure it'll remain that way.

I said this at the time, but people are better off watching the movie than they are watching the TV show. It's a much better version of the AnoHana story since Okada is forced to edit herself.

SNAFU S1 might have given people the wrong impression. The work is straight drama. There might be comedic elements at times but it's without a doubt a drama.

I think S1 had its learning moments, but nothing on the scale of both a secret family struggle and a difference of opinion so major that it causes both parties tremendous emotional pain. But I understand that S1 sets up the circumstances that allows S2 to happen.

I think the pacing of the current arc is just a bit broken.

Well most of S2 is Hachiman learning not only that he was wrong but why. It's forced him to do a hard self-correction.

Realizing that you're a major hypocrite isn't exactly a soft realization.

Funny enough I was like "we havent seen enough sensei this season" and lo and behold, the first half of the episode is all her. Which was awesome. Though I need to know what work she does on the side to be driving a freakin Aston Martin around. Its also fun to see Hachiman turn on his inner stud without even realizing it, haha.

Also in the ending,
the way the 3 are standing are like how they sit in the club room, with Yui and Yukino super close to each other and Hachiman a little farther away.
Its like things are finally back the way they're supposed to be.

SNAFU S1 might have given people the wrong impression. The work is straight drama. There might be comedic elements at times but it's without a doubt a drama.

I think the art style change really helped change the perspective. I loved the S1 style but this one is far more suitable for this season's content. Imagine Hachimans scene in S1 style. I'm cracking up just imagining it.
