PAL Charts - Week 24, 2015

Yeah, kinda hope the bundle can push it to 35k next week and the bumps for new content in August and Christmas make up for selling 200 units a week inbetween.
I am also confident there were some digital sales of note on this.

Yeah, annoying that MCV mag only does steam, Xbox Live and PSN sales - otherwise we'd know.

Heh, I sold several copies Lega Jurassic World for the 360 in the supermarket I work in. Thought it was a bit weird that I didn't see many come through for PS4/XB1.

Metro.co.uk is our last chance (and next issue of MCV magazine) to get some platform splits. They haven't updated yet.

We would have a minimum estimate for Lego Jurassic World if we knew the percentage of sales of the PS3 version.

Biu released some new data about hardware sales in germany (from GFK)
Press release is kinda strange, as most of it has already been published in march, I guess they just needed a press release because of E3 (http://www.biu-online.de/de/presse/...-spielekonsolen-werden-stark-nachgefragt.html)

The only new thing I could find is:

console hardware (I think handhelds are included) sold in 2014 in germany: 2,3 million units.

Edit: The wording indicates that more WiiU units have been sold than Xbox One units. But it just could be coincidence.
Edit2: All numbers have been released before - there is nothing new in the press release.

Splatoon is @ 443.000 units worldwide (USA first three days + UK three weeks + FR two weeks + Japan two weeks).

If we add ~40.000 digital sales for Japan and probably 40.000-50.000 retail sales for the last week and Germany should be also around 30.000 - 40.000 units LTD
we are at 553.000 units minimum. Plus 50.000 for the rest of the world and their digital sales, we should be at 600.000 units by now, without the last two weeks in USA.

Let's see if it hits a million by the end of.. July?

That might be a bit too early. With sales slowing down after launch and it being somewhat unclear how the US and digital sales will go. End of the year seems like a safer bet.

Interesting that Elder Scrolls Online performed better on the Xbone. I wonder what the split was there.
Yeah XBONE is somewhat of an MMORPG wasteland. PS4 has FFXIV and DCUO, and a number of other MMO-ish f2p. My guess is XBONE is actually seeing disproportionately higher sales on this than both PC and PS4.

Still surprised to see the game chart that high... Guess it's more a sign of the current release schedule.

How does this compare to other games like Fifa or GTA?

Yeah I find this to be a good.

Also it should be interesting to see how Lego Jurrassic World performs in the Wii U next week.

MCV Digital: The Middle East and North African games market is set to triple in size over the next seven years.

http://issuu.com/newbayeurope/docs/mcv838_june_19th (free to download and read)

MCV said:
The Middle Eastern and North African games industry is booming, growing quicker than much of the rest of the world. According to a study conducted by consulting firm Strategy& and Abu Dhabi media body twofour54, the MENA games market is expected to nearly triple in size over the next seven years. The total sector was valued at $1.6 billion (£1.04bn) in 2014, which is predicted to rocket to $4.4 billion (£2.85bn) by 2022.

“Gaming in the MENA region is growing faster than the global average, exceeding even other fast-growing emerging markets such as Russia, China and South Korea,” observed Strategy& partner Jayant Bhargava.

The report added that Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will comprise the largest portion of the market, accounting for almost two fifths of the sector’s value from 2014 to 2020.

International market research outlet yStats estimates that the entire MENA games industry will reach a value of $3.2 billion (£2.1bn) by the end of 2016. It adds its expectation that games software revenue alone will triple to hit $3 billion (£1.94bn) by 2017, having totalled $1 billion (£0.65bn) in 2014.

Analyst Deloitte, meanwhile, estimates that the Middle Eastern games market alone will generate $1.7 billion (£1.1bn) during 2015. There is a strong regional foundation for growth in the region; research firm Newzoo states that MENA has the highest compound annual growth rate (CAGR) in the world. The local market expands at a rate of 21 per cent every year – nearly triple the average worldwide CAGR.

So, I'm doing some detective work for Italy, because we never got any hardware numbers?

We only got this news from May 13, 2015:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1045420

According to this, PS4 holds 70% market-share across the current-gen and it sold "60% faster than the PS3".

The last part is important, but I don't know what it means exactly.

Does it mean that the PS4 sold 60% more units in the same timeframe compared to the PS3?

I found a number from July 2008, the PS3 LTD was at 579.500 units back then, in a timeframe of 17 months.

The news for the PS4 is from the mid of May, if the numbers are roughly till the end of April 2015, that's 18 months.

Therefore, PS4 should've been at 927.200 units at the end of April if the "60% faster" means "60% more in the same timeframe".

And if it has 70% market-share, that leaves 397.400 units for the XBO and Wii U.

hmm

there's only one thing that seems weird: according to Ubisoft PS4 was at 210k through June 2014, could it really have gone up so fast since then?

Thanks for this, never saw this thread: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=849455

Either this or these are some internal estimates by Ubisoft. The 60%-thing comes directly from Sony Italy, which use internal data or GfK-data, either way, these are the better numbers.

It's strange that we have zero numbers, there haven't been any Italy-numbers in last years ADESE-report either, seems like GfK Italy shut down everything. ~_~

Nordic: 500.000 (end of December 2014)
PT: 100.000 (end of April 2015)

Total: 6.925.000

I believe if we add all other european countries and lacking months, PS4 sold more units in Europe than in the USA. No way XBO can keep up with this.

Any european data that I missed? Or other PAL regions?

We have >200k for Australia as of Nov 2014
Yeah, forgot that news.

PS4 Worldwide
USA: ~7.800.000 (end of May 2015)
UK: 2.000.000 (end of April 2015)

PT: 100.000 (end of April 2015)
China: 73.000 (end of April 2015)
India: 4.500 (Beginning of Dec 2014, 2 weeks of sales) thx 1st Course

Total: 17.442.500

If we use 10% for Canada (calculated from USA number) we can add another 700.000 to 800.000 units to the mix.

Total: ~18.200.000

The PS4 was available in 123 countries and regions as of December 2014. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...ss-202-million-units-worldwide-300045019.html

Most of these other countries probably won't contribute more than 10.000 to 30.000 units on average. (going by the shipment numbers).

Some bigger markets that we are missing are Russia, Switzerland, Austria, BeNeLux and some markets in South & Middle America. These should contribute several 100.000 units.

I am shocked ESO is selling so well. You'd think impressions of the PC version alone would keep people away.

LEGO JURASSIC WORLD ROARS TO THE TOP

22/Jun/2015
The huge success of the Jurassic World film at the box office seems to have rubbed off on Warner’s Lego title as ‘Lego Jurassic World’ (+3%) eats up ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’, jumping one place to No1.

It is the first Lego No1 since ‘The Lego Movie Videogame’ in W7 2014. It also becomes the 7th Traveller’s Tales Lego title to reach No1 since ‘Lego Star Wars’ kicked it all off in March 2005. The Xbox 360 version consolidates its position as the lead format for Lego Jurassic World with sales up 26%. Sales of ‘The Elder Scrolls Online’ drop by 71% in its second week as it falls down to No2. ‘The Witcher III: Wild Hunt’ (-19%) holds on to No3 ahead of ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ (-4%) and ‘FIFA 15’ (-14%) who both climb one place to No’s 4 and 5 respectively. ‘Payday 2: Crimewave Edition’ falls from No4 to No6 with sales only down by 24%.
Two very different shooters; ‘Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’ (+8%) and ‘Splatoon’ (-8%) are both non-movers at No7 and No8, while a third shooter, ‘Destiny’ (-1%) sneaks back into the Top 10, up 2 places to No9. ‘Minecraft: Xbox Edition’ (-3%) rounds off the Top 10, also up 2 places, to No10. No other new releases make the Top 40 this week, although another new Warner No1 beckons with big hitter ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ due for release on Tuesday.

Splatoon tentacles confirmed in the big 3 markets in EU, now just waiting for the next NPD to confirm it ww. The game will hit 1M shipped worldwide in June I guess.

Edit: for France don't forget it's value based and the game is sold for half the Witcher 3 price, maybe The Lascar can tell us what's the difference in term of units...?

ESO still sold better on XBO, why?

No idea. Someone mentioned the existence of Final Fantasy XIV and while I don't fully agree, I know for sure I'm not touching ESO until I get through everything in Heavensward. Too much of a timesink already.

Interested to see how that does next week on PS4 though, although I'm sure an MMO expansion will have a large digital split.

Im only speaking from personal experience here but i'm guessing that FFXIV: Heavensward may have put PS4 players off buying ESO. I know theres only room for one console MMO in my life at the moment, and with them releasing in such a short space of time, perhaps that is the reason?

If Splatoon had an 8% drop, it only sold 4,552 last week. I think the tentacles are more an indicator of a slow market than anything. Still not bad for a Wii U game mind you!

This has been the case in the UK for a very long time now and compared to the competition, Splatoon looks to be doing very well indeed. Clearly a hit with Wii U owners and a new big Nintendo franchise. Its got legs and will be interesting to see how it does at the Holiday as well.

Which going into a new console - having Splatoon is a big get for them I feel.
