What the fuck?! He died today?! FOR REAL?! But that's impossible!

My condolences to his friends and family, may he truly rest in piece.

I think I'm going to watch this Game Center CX tomorrow in remembrance. He come across as someone who really did love games. Not only did he enjoy creating them, but also playing them. He really was a gem in the industry and certainly one of a kind.

Please add this to the OP.

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer” - Satoru Iwata, GDC 2005

While Nintendo has had some ups and downs under his leadership, this is such a tragic thing to hear. It's hard to imagine how Nintendo will move forward without him. RIP Satoru Iwata.

I am in fucking shock.

The Yamauchi news was expected at some point. The man was ancient.

Iwata was only 55.

This industry was blessed to have a man like Iwata as a participant.

May he rest in peace.

At least you can talk. Who are you?
I put it in the OP, but my favourite quote:

“On my business card, I am a corporate president. In my mind, I am a game developer. But in my heart, I am a gamer

Rest In Peace Iwata. A great man who contributed much to the industry. You will be missed by family, friends, and those who knew him. My prayers for them.

This is awful. I didn't know he was being treated for a tumor, I thought he was recovering. I am shocked.

Has Nintendo been making arrangements for a successor? I assume the inner circle had to know how serious his illness was.

Wow, RIP. Much, much respect to the man.

Fuck. Let's hope the next person in charge cares about games as deeply as Iwata. He made a lot of great things happen over the years.

No! :(

I know Nintendo has been getting a lot of criticism lately, but there's no denying this man practically helped built Nitendo into what it is today along with his influence in the video game industry overall.

RIP Mr. Iwata

Rest in peace, Iwata. You will be dearly missed. Nintendo have gotten me through some tough times in my life. I will remember you and all the experiences your company have given me

WTF. I saw this thread and figured it was another dumb joke like that Trinen thing a couple months ago. Never expected it to be true.

RIP Iwata.

Holy crap now what's gonna happen with Nintendo? who will be the new CEO now!? Miyamoto???

Maybe Shibata? I honestly have no idea. Everyone on the board of directors is incredibly old. It won't be Miyamoto. He's 62 and too ingrained on the creative side of things. Aside from Shibata, I cannot think of anyone else. NOE has had a very solid turnaround under his leadership.
