I heard about DQ franchise, but i didn't play it. So, a question :

DQ X will be port to PS4 or something really new? DQX exists in Japan only for 3DS?

DQX is an MMO originally released for Wii, right now there are also WiiU and PC versions, the 3DS version just streams the PC iirc, its not even a cartridge.

WiiU and PC versions are scaled up from the Wii original from what I know, so I expect the PS4 version to follow suit.

DQX is an MMORPG that I believe currently exists for Wii, Wii U and 3DS (via some sort of streaming solution ala PS Now), and is only in Japan. It was announced this morning for PS4 but no word on localization as this event was targeted at Japan.

DQX was an MMO that's on Wii, Wii U, PC & 3DS/mobile (via streaming for the latter 2) in Japan. None of them were localized.

DQX is a Japan only MMORPG for Wii, Wii U, PC, and the 3DS/iOS/Android(via streaming services).

It's being ported to the PS4.

Are we really questioning a localisation? I mean if DQ heroes is coming to the west why wouldn't the mainline game?

They didn't bring to the West their MMO, their latest handheld ports (because the previous ones didn't sell), or a handful of quirky spinoff games. So according to a lot of people, that means DQ is "Japan-only" despite the fact that most of the mainline series has come out here.

engines don't dictate the look of the game. at all. has nothing to do with ue4 really.

what...they don't?
How come almost every Unreal Engine 3 game is easy to pick out from just a screenshot.

KH3 and DQ11 backgrounds kind of looked like all those UE4 videos we've been seeing lately to me. It's not because of the engine? It looks customized a little but the general look is similar

I'm just fearful that the 3DS version won't make it overseas :( It's the one I want to play the most. I'm buying both, though.

Square Enix hasn't decided weather its going to be localized or not.

According to eurogamer.

Square Enix has nothing to do with it at this point. If they dont want to, Sony will get it done if Shu's tweets are anything to say about it. They arent going to let Heroes come over without a mainline entree.

That's just conservative PR-speak because the green light hasn't been given. But it's a pretty safe bet that it will be, at least in one of its incarnations.

Yeah, I mean it's a given that DQXI for the PS4 will be localized. It's just foolishness to ignore the userbase in the west.

Also there is hardly enough PS4's only in Japan to justify NOT localizing it.

Everyone has been saying this myth for years in regards to Unreal 3, and Guilty Gear Xrd looks nothing like any other Unreal 3 game.

Art style and artistic direction determine how a game looks, Not an engine.

If a developer wants a specific look, they can customize the engine however drastically to how they feel suits their style best. Guilty Gear is on UE3, but you'd never imagine so.

It all depends on the assets used, the artstyle of the game and to what extent the base pack in SDK is modified

Didn't Nintendo help with DQIX and the Braverly Default games? I don't see how you're so confident that Nintendo won't help localization here. It's a mainline Dragonquest game and doesn't even suffer DQX's MMO status. Why wouldn't Nintendo attempt to bring it over?

The same reason they haven't managed to bring over Dragon Quest VIIr. I still don't know how they managed to sort out Bravely Default and not a single Dragon Quest 3DS game but hey, something must be up.

The only version I'm confident will be locised will be the PS4 version because one of the whole reaons it exists is probably because of the overseas market.

Seems like it depends on how much effort companies put into creating or customizing the assets.

But so far, from what I've seen, the grass and trees seem customized some, but the general asthetic and especially the rocks/terrain look close to the engine presets.

Is this a true single player DQ and not some MMO thing?

Yes.
DQ 11 is a single player RPG experience for PS4, 3DS (and probably NX), even though the PS4 and 3DS versions will be very different.

DQ 10 (now coming to PS4, and again, probably NX as well) was, is and will continue to be the DQ MMO.

Edit: Look at it this way, A Realm Reborn: Final Fantasy 14 (PS3, PC, PS4) is the FF MMO. Final Fantasy 15 is going to be a single player game.

And people complain about XB1 draggin the PS4 down.....

Any precedent for this? Seems like they'd almost have to do two fairly different builds.

Did the DS version of Ni no Kuni bring the PS3 version down? No. They'll be the same story, different games. Just like Ni no Kuni.

Anyway, I like the sprite based screen on 3DS bottom screen and the 3D on the top. It's like playing a retro and modern game at once.

You are aware that replying to a comment from page 1 is a bit silly when we're already on page 40-something, right? :p

I think this will be similar to the Ni no Kuni situation: PS4 version will be localised, while the 3DS version will stay in Japan. Maybe the NX is a handheld and its version will be an upscaled/cleaned up version of the 3DS version, and that will get localised?

On top of niche PS3/Vita stuff like Trails of Cold Steel and Lost Dimension.

JRPG IS BACK

Japan is slowly returning to form. No doubt TGS will have cool stuff from Capcom and Sega (PSO2 PS4 and Phantasy Star Reboot pls).

Also some new Compile Heart games. Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force and Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II. And the SAO games.

Best fucking time of my life.

Over the last few years, SquareEnix has taught western 3DS owners (through inaction) not to care about their Dragon Quest offerings. I'm not holding my breath for the 3DS version, guys.

I really want it though

Do you think we are capable to answer that?

Dragon Quest Heroes is a Musou game, it requires very little effort in localizing plus Musou game sell well in the west.

Not really a strong indication that the game will be getting a western release, especially when none of the 3DS games got localized.

Just read the news.
Kind of surprising they're considering Nintendo's NX for this game.
First third party game for that console? :p

None of the 3DS games were new mainline titles, either. Mainline titles tend to be relatively successful in the west (I think both VIII and IX broke a million units in the west?), while spin-offs aren't doing too hot. I don't expect that XI will be the exception.

Considering the smaller number of PS4's in Japan compared to other territories, it wouldn't make sense to not localize.

I mean if you consider 1.5 million PS4s in Japan compared to the 20 Million worldwide.

There is a good reason why Dragon Quest XI is on BOTH the PS4 and 3DS, they can capitalize on the current largest console userbase in the west (PS4) and the current largest handheld userbase in Japan (3DS)

Yeh Sony has 3rd Party Productions now for the soul purpose of stuff like localizations and collaborations and such. So no doubt if SE won't do it, TPP will jump in and take care of it. Hell 99% of the responses to YOSP stating on twitter he can't wait to play DQXI on PS4 was people yelling for it to come out west lol. So no doubt it'll happen.
