Transformers Devastation (Platinum Games) boss videos on Facebook

Also Soundwave concept art!

I wonder why they would need to do concept art for something that has over 30 years worth of concept art already. That's Soundwave alright.

Maybe they made minor changes that aren't noticeable at first glance.

It saddens me as well the lack of interest in this game overall. It was my favorite surprise out of E3, the sort of game I didn't know I was dying for and that rarely happens. I hope it doesn't dissuade a Platinum Spider-Man game being made if that actually is in the cards (the director of this said he wanted to make a Spiderverse game).

That was Hashimoto(Bayonetta 2 director). Err, though Saito(Transformers director) made a similar statement, but not about Spider-Man xD

Friends, this will sell like shit. Just like all their other games. It is written.

Well, i think MGR proved a P* game can be good sales wise if attached to a popular franchaise,so there's hope.

Also, i think a big credit should go to the Activision producer, if a new P*+Activision game Will happen it Will surely be because of him, he really likes P* it seems lol.

Game looks great, I still have no idea what it actually is. OPen world game, brawler, fighting game, etc.

I don't understand the confusion people seem to have over what the game is. This question gets asked a lot, but I just don't get it.

Maybe it's indicative of how different the perspective is on games these days compared to people who are more familiar with character action games? I dunno.

The game is a 3D beatemup where you pick an Autobot to control and play through 7 stages bashing Decepticons up, moving through a stage, bashing more Decepticons, bashing mid-bosses, bashing a stage boss, and then proceeding to the next stage. Doesn't seem confusing to me...? :(

Is there any footage for the different versions of the game? I could go either Xbox One or PS3 but I wanna know if there's any radical difference between them in terms of performance.

This is probably blasphemy in a Platinum thread, but I hope the combat systems are simpler than Bayonetta. I prefer more God Of War/new DmC style beat-em-ups to all the complex combos of old DmC/Bayonetta.

I could have sworn that Vanquish sold around a million copies. That's nothing to sneeze at. Maybe this won't bomb.

I don't remember it selling that much.I. loved it to death, though-but I still found myself wanting a pc version at the time.I wonder why it never came to be.

User controlled "traveling" from stage to stage to tie things together or is it literally an assembly line?

Did you play Bayo2? Combo system was pretty straightforward and easy there... I don't think you can get any simpler. You'll even get visual indicators about when to use combo finishers (the car transformation attacks).

Because really, no one makes genuine character action other than Platinum. DMCSE didn't go that far to bring the genre back into the limelight. So if they don't know who Platinum is then the term means nothing to them. Also, a lot of people are put off by the technicality and depth that the games have, so they never got into it.

I know a friend of mine thought the first Bayonetta was the worst game ever because he kept getting Stone, and repeatedly asked me, "Why isn't this more like God of War? I'm killing everything, isn't that what it wants?"

I cannot wait until you're confused on a topic and someone ridicules you. Thanks for the answer though.

No, I didn't play Bayo2, only 1. Glad to hear they simplified it a bit as I found it overwhelming.

That wasn't ridicule, I really do not understand why it was confusing to people. Like I said, it's not just you, I've seen this question a lot. It just baffles me. I would love for someone to actually explain what makes it confusing actually - is it the way the trailers are edited? Or is the sort of gameplay being shown really that alien to gamers today? It's something I've been really curious about, because when Metal Gear Rising was shown, I didn't see the same sort of reaction at all, so to me, this is the same sort of game, but lots of people have been asking "what sort of game is this?!".

To be fair, you could totally play Bayonetta 1 with just the punch, dodge, and gun buttons. My first time playing through I just chose the sword and played it like a hack n slash with minimal issues. The game itself was fairly challenging, but the combo system itself definitely allows for simple inputs

Didn't realize until after playing DMC4 (hadn't played a DMC game before Bayo 1/2) that the game basically controlled the same with launchers and air juggles. The depth should be there for people who want it, but as long as it can still be played/enjoyed at a more casual level, they really shouldn't dumb down the system as a whole

And yeah, Bayo 2 is definitely easier/simplified from 1

For me, yea, I'd say the trailers. They show cars driving around- could be open world. The show flying, again could be open world. Then there's fighting in a box- is it a fighter- brawlers typically move around more than just a square. It's all the cuts. They should have released a trailer showing how moment to moment it works rather than cut footage. It can be narrowed down to several types of games from the trailers.

So basically what it is then, is a more toned down Bayonetta,

The trailers do seem pretty badly put together. I think they're aiming to show off combos and moves to people who are already familiar with what to expect, but maybe that's a mistake if they didn't have one which established the proper tone first.

It makes a lot more sense when watching actual demo gameplay though, like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gigM3-C4is

The driving mechanic with vehicles is pretty much just a faster way to get around, like dashing, while the "flying" scenes are just enemy introduction cutscenes. There are no playable fliers in the game.

I think a bunch of them might be higher level weapons of the same type. They mentioned that each weapon has a quality level or something, so there's probably a lot of padding lol.

Depending on how many weapon types there actually are, guessing each character has at least one melee type and I doubt we've seen all the gun types yet, 150 might not even be that big.

You're thinking the first Bayonetta.

It's by the MGR director, so I can definitely see it being simpler than Bayonetta.

It's linear.

With all the tmnt references in MGR and Activision having the publishing rights for tmnt games, the chances seem quite high for this to happen.

This is true. My issue stems from the chances that it'd be like Korra in tone and style. If the gameplay is classic Platinum I'll still pick it up but a true TMNT with Kevin Eastman's blessing and a more grittier style and Platinum gameplay and set pieces would be something to behold.

Yeah. I mean, in the end I'd be okay with almost any type of TMNT game P* could make, but the likelihood is high that it would just be something either a) something based off the new TV toon or b) another 80's throwback in the style of this TF game.

The ideal would be something more styled after the Mirage or IDW comics, but what is the likelihood of that when you have to think about aiming for a larger audience of either kids or "kids at heart"...

It wish it sold even a quarter of that.

You're thinking the first Bayonetta.

Vanquish sold over 900k. I'm very confident that most of those sales were at a heavy discount though, much like Bayo 1.

Where did you get that number from? First month sales were not pretty and even with discounts and bundles it seems a little high.

You didn't think a series of movies that, until this year, had two of its four installments in the top 10 box office hits of all time, both of which grossed over a billion dollars worldwide, were popular?

I mean they're terrible movies, but they're some of the biggest blockbuster hits ever made.

I barely watch movies dude, my knowledge of these things is that they got a bunch of sequels that were equally as panned by people that I know.

Also, I'm pretty sure we shouldn't expect Vanquish numbers for this one =X

How much do the High Moon games sell?

Not well enough to avoid the chopping block.

Vanquish shipped 830k worldwide by 2011: http://www.segasammy.co.jp/english/pdf/release/1103appendix_e_final.pdf#page=6

How much of that was eventually sold at bargain bins or returned to Sega is unclear.

I was mistaken, it was actually 800k. Still more than people generally give the game credit for.

Color me surprised. Still, I doubt it was a success.

Wait... what?

wELL if MGR had DLC to play as bosses, then this game could have some playable Decepticons. I could see Starscream AT LEAST being playable as he tries to take on Megatron for leadership of the 'cons.

I'm actually really excited to see how Devastation plays. The third-person shooting controls and easy vehicle-mode Transformations make it look like almost like Bayonetta crossed with Vanquish, which is a sentence I can barely type without drooling all over my keyboard.

I'm really curious to hear how this measures up between the XB1 and PS4 versions, performance wise. Having both systems, I'd like to get whichever has the smoothest experience. :)
PC version has no physical copy and I don't get last-gen versions of cross gen games so I suppose this will be my first Platinum PS4 title.

Do Americans prefer Transformers through movies, little kid programming (because apparently not enough people watched Transformers Prime) and their source material? Because BEING a Transformer doesn't seem to resonate much going by High Moon's and (sadly) most likely this game's sales.

Yeah, I can see that working out like Sam's campaign, where it ends with you having to fight a harder version of Megatron,
who kicks your ass but doesn't fire you in the cutscene after.
I want this now.

I think there's probably an issue of the cartoon being widely acknowledged as a 30-minute commercial with cool characters rather than, say, a legitimately good show like Batman TAS which led to Arkham Asylum. So people are willing to spend three hours watching shit explode in the big screen every other year but not so much a more significant investment of time/money.

Looks alone will get this one a few purchases, probably, but I wouldn't expect a sequel if Activision wants decent numbers out of this. Maaaybe if they really want a game out next year instead of waiting for the next movie.

I actually bought the PC physical version on Amazon.de for ~$20

Why is the PS4 version 30 dollars? Whereas the PC version 50 dollars? :(

I have all of my transformers games on my PC?

I never even heard of Vanquish until I started lurking GAF in 2013 and seeing the crazy gifs. It's probably my favorite shooter now. I think it could've sold way more if Sega advertised it well, seeing as there is a large audience for shooters.
