What controls are you using for Halo 5? (Regular and Elite controller)

I just want to start this off by saying I can not find a control scheme I like in this game. I'm constantly switching from default to bumper jumper to etc trying to find something I like. I'm constantly button mapping on the elite controller by putting jump on the paddles, or sprint on the paddles, etc.

But I just can not find anything that works for me. The one thing that my mind has agreed on so far is that evade should be on one of the back paddles, and maybe jump as well. So i'm hoping i'll get some inspiration from others in this thread to finally find something that works for me.

Despite having 50,000 combinations in settings all of the control options are garbage and I ended up doing some button mapping although at first the app wasn't working which was nice and frustrating...

Im on on Halo 4 controls with crouch and "smart link" button mapped to swap

Halo 4. Needed to have grenades on LT and aim on RS. Crouch on B is the only thing that I need to get used to

I think I'm using fish stick. All these control layouts and I still can't find one that I like. All I want is jump with bumper, ADS on LT, fire on RT and Sprint with L stick, but that doesn't exist! I don't want to Sprint with A. I don't want to click R stick to aim, and I don't want to crouch with L stick, but if I want bumper jumper..those are my options. I'm thinking about opting into the preview program so I can button map because these controls kinda blow.

That's why i'm hesitant to use Halo 4 controls... I just really wish I could use crouch on the left stick again but I need sprint on the left stick.

i found the controls to be a little...weird. it took a while to get used to, and im still getting used to it. but i definitely kept on pushing the wrong buttons. using the default layout on a regular controller. also, i was genuinely surprised at the inclusion of ADS. i didnt follow development at all and didnt know they decided to put in ADS. are there any benefits to it? because from the short time i played, i didnt notice any.

Halo 4 on a regular controller because Destiny has gotten me very used to reload on X, crouch on B, and melee on RB. For everything else, I'm good with classic Halo.

Yea that's the main issue. I'm getting used to it though. Def didn't want aim on LT. Goes against my Halo instincts

Halo 4 controls (regular controller) - can't wait for button remapping to be released for everyone so I can swap crouch (B) with thrusters (LB) and then that will be perfection to me.

Default, because I'm a horrible human being. :(

Wanted to go with Recon, as per usual, but I played shit-tons of Destiny over the last month and a half and the H5 default controls are basically the same as my Destiny control scheme. Since I really suck at bouncing around between FPS control schemes (playing multiple Halo games back-to-back was a nightmare before MCC added Recon to everything) I just went with the default to skip the acclimation phase.

That's a good layout option. I might do that later in the preview dash.

But then again, I do like having the quick access to thrusters without taking my finger off of aiming.

I'm on H4 controls on the Elite controller as well. The following buttons were mapped:

P3 -> A (so jump is on a paddle)
P1 -> LB (so boost is on a paddle)
P2 -> X (so reload is on a paddle)
P4 -> Y (so weapon switch is on a paddle)
LB -> B (so crouch is on LB, crouch is less important than boost imo)
RT -> Trigger stop engaged for less travel time to shoot
LT -> Sensitivity lower by 5 so I throw grenades on accident less

With this control setup I don't have to take my fingers off of the joysticks at all...once I retrain muscle memory to not move my right thumb toward the face buttons and memorize my layout (which is the easy part). Right now I feel like a bumbling moron trying to play, sometimes pressing paddles while still reaching for a face button. I know that I could be doing better out of the gate with just a default controller, but then I can also tell that when I get the paddle use as second nature I will be a better player than without. The minute amount of time being saved by not moving your thumb between face buttons and joystick, and the ability to aim while able to do other actions it should make a noticeable difference.

I'll probably use Recon, as that's what I'm used to using when playing Halo.

Jump on lower right paddle. The charge on lower left(maybe weapon switch instead, I'll have to try it out). Sprint on upper left(so crouch can be left stick), and melee on upper right.

I remember having a hard time getting used to Recon in the beta, but I think I can get used to it eventually.

Default. I'm getting used to it thanks to 9 hours non-stop campaign marathon.
Don't know what should I do when I get my Elite Controller.

I went back and forth between a few different options and all of them seemed to have some kind of flaw or didn't feel like "Halo" to me. This was the closest I could think of. I'm used to quickly reacting to pressing B thanks to melee in Halo CE days. Meanwhile I hardly ever need to time critical a crouch so LB feels more natural to me.

Sadly I'm not in the preview program so if you do try it, let me know what you think.

Will do. Good point about the melee on B posing the same situation.

I spent a good 10 minutes going through the control options and was so annoyed because some seemed perfect if I could swap crouch with one thing.

I ended up using Green Thumb (I think) where boost is RB. I needed sprint and melee on the sticks.

Halo 4 controls with Elite settings:
Paddle 2 thrust
Paddle 4 Jump
Paddle 1 Melee ( still getting use to it)
Paddle 3 crouch ( useless my grip that i use to hold the controller doesn't allow me to press 3 effectively)
Hair triggers on L+R with the sensitivity set to register the slightest tap
R stick set to Invert (no more adjusting in games!!)

Default. Tried using the paddles. Been playing too much and having to hold the controller differently is causing major hand cramps right now. I'll gradually introduce my hands to the paddles. Mapped the face buttons so far. Tried both two and four paddle configs.
