Netflix 360 - 1 Year Later?

Hi GAF,

I signed up for Netflix last year around this time because I was interested and wanted to see what all the hype was about. I was pleasantly surprised at first by the amount of new shows I could watch on the 360 but after a few weeks I got bored because they would rarely if ever add new content. And all the movies for instant streaming were old, all the new releases had to be ordered through the mail.

No problem right? Wrong. Netflix took around 3 days to ship me a movie so I ended up renting 5 movies a month max through the mail which wasn't worth it to me so I just canceled. I was wondering though if they have updated the instant streaming list off the 360 to have newer titles? I'm thinking of ordering it again but can't find a list of instant streaming movies anywhere.

Also, are all the instant streaming movies/shows available in HD?

Sorry to go a little off topic, but how does instant streaming work on consoles? I've used the mail service but you're limited to having a certain amount of movies at a time, how does that work if you're just streaming them? Anyways, it doesn't seem like I'd be saving money by streaming Netflix on my PS360 over just renting them on their respective video services.

You pick a movie you want to watch and play it. Easy as that. You can watch movies 24/7 if you wanted to, there's no restrictions except the selection available for streaming

Streaming is seperate from the mail stuff and the catalog they have on their isnt brand new movies. Well sometimes they have new stuff but for the most part the streaming movies are classics, or movies that have been on DVD for a bit. You can have as many in your queue so whe nyou load up the 360/ps3 you see the box art of all the movies on your queue and can watch away. They dont interfere with your mail queue. You can have say 2/2 movies out and still watch whatever you want on the instant stream provided they have it up for stream.

This doesn't really need it's own thread. You should've posted here:

And oh, didn't know that thread was still going on. I remember reading through it months ago but though it died down.

My mistake.

Depending on where you live you might want to try again sometime or email them about long dvd times. I got netflix with a free month about 3-4 years ago and it was the same thing, I would take around a whole week to get a new dvd due to the lack of warehouses and now they have a warehouse in my state so it only takes 1 day. Just something to keep in mind.

Netflix with instant viewing is easily one of the best entertainment values out there... Probably 75% of my tv viewing is via Netflix. I rarely watch regular TV anymore.

I'm glad this topic came up.

I'm moving out. Everyone I talk to is saying I'll need cable, but can you rent TV shows through netflix?

1 year later and still no equivalent service available outside the US.
Thanks Microsoft! Great to see I have to pay the same price, if not more, for Live Gold.

Who the hell uses Cable anymore? =o If you're American, yes TV shows are often on here (not sure how soon) and you also have Hulu.

The selection is pretty terrible but you can definitely watch TV shows through Netflix. You won't be seeing brand new episodes though; Only stuff that is already on DVD/Blu Ray.

They have tons of TV shows both streaming and on DVD.

Wow takes them 3 days to ship a movie huh. That's like 1 movie a week if it takes 3 days for a disc to return to them. Glad I live 2 hours from a warehouse. Mail it out Monday and they receive it on Tuesday and mail me the next movie in my que

I watch a shit ton of sports so I need cable but I do love using netflix with my ps3, good stuff.
How long do you usually have to wait before streaming content without worrying about buffering? I'm tempted to get Netflix on my PS3, but my DSL connection isn't the fastest. DLing a full size demo takes me like an hour.

If you're wondering what the selection is like on instant streaming, I recommend going here:

If you see things you'd watch, then streaming is for you. 1 year later, I cancelled my cable, choosing to rely on videos downloaded from the Internet and Netflix for my entertainment.

It must be something to do with where you live, OP. If I get my movies in the mailbox early enough, they are scanned at the post office that day and Netflix sometimes mails it out same night. I get it the next day by the time I'm home from work. If not, it's there the day after. I also get regular emails from them asking how quickly I received my movie, so they can get feedback on their shipping times.

Did you give them your email address when you signed up? They're constantly sending out emails to ask for feedback and stuff like that. The level of customer service they provide is crazy. (I got an email once because the signal quality wasn't so great one night and they were offering everyone they saw using the streaming service between that window of time a small refund.) I'm sure if you tried it out again and you called them, you could probably get a pretty positive response.

But yes, the stuff being added to instant streaming is improving all the time. New release movies aren't always on there unless it's part of the Starz package -- all the stuff that plays on Starz is now part of Netflix instant streaming, so if they pick up a new release to play on their channel Netflix will get it too -- but they're getting insane with TV. They got Lost season 5 streaming in HD the same day as the DVD release. It's nuts.
