NeoGAF Games of the Year 2015 Awards

Life is Strange, which I thought was really good, over Splatoon and Mario Maker is a little laughable, but otherwise that's a slick and interesting list. Also, I only voted for a few games but they all made the Top 20 so yay! Also, go Bloodborne and MGS V! Two of the best games ever made released in the same year, wowzers.

If I remove games from the list that I can't play, I played 9/10 games in the top 10! Not bad! The only one I didn't play was pillars of eternity.

Biggest surprise is MGS getting in the top 3, considering how many threads there were about how bad the game was.
Can't say I'm too surprised about Undertale once again getting a filler spot, GAF isn't too hot on the game outside of it's own fanbase so it's to be expected.

Im happy for Bloodborne :D

Until Dawn in top 10 is also pretty awesome. That game deserves all the praise and attention.

Good stuff in here.

I mentioned it on twitter too, i got a feeling TW3 didn't win goty because people lack of format or spelling mistakes. Just a hunch. :p

First of all thanks to Cheesemeister and timetokill for all the effort going into this. Appreciated!

Looks like a lot of the games I liked this year did pretty well all things considered. Bloodborne and Witcher III both did amazing. Steins;Gate did pretty well considering how niche it is and even Trails in the Sky FC+SC topped the High Quality awards along with with Bloodborne and Witcher!

As for my Top 10 recommended games

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=192637551&postcount=2608
1. [PS3] Yakuza 5 (Action) = 10 points
2. [PS4][PC] Rocket League (Sports) = 6 points
3. [PS4] Until Dawn (Horror) = 5 points, 1 honorable mention
4. [360][XB1][PS3][PS4] Destiny: The Taken King (FPS) = 5 points
5. [XB1][PS4][PC] Batman: Arkham Knight (Adventure) = 5 points
6. [360][XB1][PS3][PS4][PC] Resident Evil HD Remaster (Horror) = 4 points
7. [PC] Undertale (RPG) = 3 points, 2 honorable mentions
8. [PS3][PSV] The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (RPG) = 3 points
9. [XB1][PC] Ori and the Blind Forest (Platform) = 3 points
10. [PC] Pillars of Eternity (RPG) = 3 points

This is actually a pretty good list. The only reason I didn't play Yakuza 5 is because I'd moved on from PS3. Would have played it if it was on PS4 or came out a year earlier. I've played Rocket league and it was good fun. Just forgot about it! I've played the other Arkham games but passed on this due to a bit of open world fatigue. REmake Remaster i nearly bought a few times but decided to wait for the bundle with RE0. Undertale is a game I've been eyeing for quite a while. Trails of Cold Steel I actually own but just haven't gotten around to playing it yet. If I had more time I would own an Xbox One and thus have played Ori, and Pillars of Eternity is something I've been meaning to get around to for a while now.

The recommendations work very well! At least my case anyway. Good job!

Now for affinities. I like similar games to these people huh? I recognise about half of you. Quite often in topics that I happen to read even if I don't post. Maybe I should post more! Now to see what games you played...

The games on these lists that i haven't played are games I've put thought into buying and would have if I had more time. Xenoblade Chronicles X and Undertale are the games that appear to cry out for my attention it seems!

Congratulations to Bloodborne, one of the best games I've ever played and one I'll be coming back to for years to come.

Would it be correct to say that both Bloodborne and The Witcher 3 have more votes than any other GAF GOTY winner from previous years?
2015 was a beast of a year.

GAF complains about incomplete games with microtransactions and votes MGS5 as the third best of the year.

Bloodborne should be Action rather than RPG.

I think Bloodborne is fine in either catagory and I believe Souls has always been counted as RPG prior. And with two 3rd places(Demon and Dark) + another top 10. It was obvious it was going to get the lead. I also think it speaks in quality about Witcher. Since each entry has drastically jumped. Witcher 1 went from barely a blip, to two ranking in at 8th, to 3 taking second. Only losing against Souls which is a hardcore gamer's favorite franchise.

But the MGS fanbase is rabid like no other. They've always been out-liner and the most blindly faithful of all. This is the first time a mainline MGS didn't win. Hell, Konami sold a demo and the fanbase ate it the fuck up.

Good List. A little bit surprised a console exclusive game made #1 but that just shows how dominant the PS4 is on NeoGAF. I dont own a console right now, so I havent played BB, but the rest of the list is pretty much how I see it as well.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
GAF's obvious Sony bias reigns supreme. SonyGAF mods probably rigged it.

I really, really don't see how MGSV got that many votes. Game is a hot mess. Especially if you've been a longtime fan.

Gameplay is king and in that regard MGSV is the best MGS game.

Plenty of people don't give a single shit about the story. And there's still plenty there for those that do.

What a crazy year. Who expected games from Dontnod and Supermassive to end up as top 10 material. Definitely well deserved for both.

Any chance, in the future, we can get the voting thread stickied? I caught it this year, but it's rarely on the first page, so I've missed it a few times in years passed.

That was quick, I was just finishing my browse through the voting thread with a few posts ready to quote and then I noticed that the thread had got locked and the the results were already here.
Good work all round from voters and host...ers, a record breaking year of formatting woes and inadvertently wiping ballots.

My parliament of Owls...
Oh gosh, does that number 1 make me too reasonable for this forum now? (no it doesn't but it's nice to dream).

Apparently I'm recommended nothing, so I can wipe my hands of 2015 and move onwards through 2016 then (okay, Life is Strange may be worth a look).

I'm on four people's affinity lists, that feels pretty high for me. I'm really getting more and more mainstream every year. Not much I can say about the general results, I don't really care for most of the games that are ranked really high, for the most part not into those types of games. Cities: Skylines getting #21 is pretty good though :), well deserved.

Edit: Looking at the recommended list for me, I already own Life is Strange (#5) and will get back to finishing it at one point, it's an okay game. Dirty Rally seems cool, but at the same time something I'm not sure I'd be good enough at racing games for. Project CARS was really disappointing. Prison Architect is a solid game. Beginner's Guide I own and will get to at one point, same with the Talos Principle. I might check out Fallout 4 at one point, but I couldn't get past the first few hours in Fallout 3 even after several tries, so it's going to have to be very cheap for me to give it a try. Rest of the games I have little to no interest in.

Exclusives almost always happen to win on GAF

GAF had one job... and they did it, apparently.

Congrats Bloodborne, definitely top of my list when i get a PS4. So many voters can't go wrong.
Cheers for Witcher 3.

Happy to see Life is Strange at number 5, absolutely deserving and I hope this gets more people to play it. I knew it was never going to make the top 3 but I thought it might drop out of the top 10.

LOL my top 10 recommended games is basically a list of games I have zero or negative interest in, with Cities Skylines thrown in as the one thing I actually own and want to play. #11 is a game I played and actively hated.

Nintendo has 40 titles that can't be right? Anyway after nailing the top three last year I find GAF flubbed it this time, but the top ten is overall great.

Whoa, Bloodborne actually did it. I thought The Witcher 3 would take it. Nice to see Undertale up there too, which was my personal GOTY.

Shame Rocket League didn't get higher but not a bad 3 games to be behind and quite a good list.

Couldn't get into bloodborne myself but get why people like it as the combat was great.

I actually haven't really played Life is Strange, ahahaha. According to my recommendations list it's my no 1 most recommended game. I'll be honest, I played the first 15 minutes of it, found the dialogue kinda cringeworthy so I decided to play something else instead. I'll definitely play it now though.

Cheers for Witcher 3.

It will be so boring when SoulsBorne wins again in 2016, though. I really hope Deus Ex is good enough to be competitive this year.
