Yeah comparing it to burger king is just mindblowing bad. And i do not believe a word what they're saying like they own every 'react' it's like sony tried to with 'let's play' no you dickheads you will not change the world because we will forget stuff like this in a few years.

I think they know that people will forget stuff like this in a few years, which is why theyre desperate to beat the horse. Whoever sign up with Reach World will have to give these guys royalty whether their future video is a reaction video or not. They'll make money off people who don't realize that every single video in their catalog, past and future, will be monetized by these guys.

Naive people will sign up, do one (or maybe none) reaction video, then forget about it and not realize that their content is monetized.

They've definitely done their math and know that the money they'll make in a few years would be worth it for lifetime worth of their own videos.

That's why people need to wake the fuck up and not do this and by the looks of it hopefully it is working seeing the subs slowly going down it has great impact.

Seeing other videos taking down for no reason also doing a trademark and making a copyright on those words react is just unbelievable dumb.

Let's hope the backlash will be big enough that they stop this and seeing the train gaining more motion to me that is good news.

They also note in the description that if you have a content ID claim they are working on it to resolve the issue by next week. This should of been said in the video as well. Losing 3 million subs must of made them hurt. At least they're saying the right stuff now and explaining it better.

?

According to this they've lost about 14,000 subscribers between January 28th and January 31st.

What a disaster. No idea why they did this to begin with. They have an insanely popular channels already that get tens of millions of views. I do enjoy their content, but they should have seen this coming.

I feel bad for them.

Are you serious feel bad for them? I would rather feel bad for the people who got claimed for no reason and them trying to hoard money from others without doing shit, trying to trademark and even copyright a word to their leisure. Let's see if it really happens they go below 14 million subs.

They were arrogant enough to try and force a monopoly on to their kind of product. The exact same way Microsoft tried to force everything into their always on crap and failed miserably. They get so popular and so big they think their shit doesn't stink and wants to screw people over for more money.

They're doing shitty things, but the reality is that people will forget about this in less than a week, and they'll continue making nearly a million dollars a month in ad revenue alone. Nothing will happen to them because of this, even if they lose 1 million subscribers.

Doubt the bolded. More people will make more videos calling them out. So it'll be drawn out.

Why should people forget about it if they don't stop doing stupid things?

Please forgive us.

I'll murder my brother if you stop disliking my videos, believe me.

[edit]

They're still not explaining what their format is since they know that they've no fucking clue what "their format" is. There's nothing unique about their format so they can't pinpoint anything.

I still want to know who the heck is ripping off the Fine Bros specific format of "round up a group of people, have them watch a thing, then interview them about their reactions while sprinkling in trivia both to the reactors and the viewers."

Focus Groups be damned!

I feel bad because I think they thought this idea was genuinely a good one. They probably knew what they were doing but that is just how I feel.
Why is it a good idea to get money off other people for doing react videos and take their videos down with false DMCA takedowns?

It's a bit silly, I'm totally naive to all of this but things like

Lets Play
Funtage
Reaction
etc.

seem like 'generic youtube terminology', as they've been around for so long and used by so many as a description to what their videos are about. I don't understand how you'd be able to trademark or copyright the term.

They said in their format. If nobody out right copies them I don't see the problem. Yes they should have gone into more detail about their format but you should notice when you have the same thing as someone else.

They aren't really losing that many subscribers.. I mean yeah they are for sure but nothing crazy.

It's also insane to see how much they make a day according to Social Blade. Holy shit, I wish I made $20k a day.

The public still has 30 days to oppose. People argued public domain and the office agreed against Sony.

Yes. Which is why there's backlash, for awareness reasons. I hope there are people affected by this arguing against it, and I hope the office agrees against them, especially since they have YouTube money backing them.

Last I checked, they already got registration number for a few of the terms they wanted to Trademark. They're already approved for it.

This paragraph is amazing.

When a trademark examiner approves a trademark, like they did here, they put it forward for publication. On the date of publication, the public has 30 days to file an opposition. Had the Fine Bros kept quiet for another month, they almost certainly would have gotten this trademark, as no one seemed to notice it. Instead, they announced their ridiculous licensing program and turned all eyes on them. How they were not advised to remain silent a bit longer? No idea. But I can tell you that it was a huge mistake, and one that they will regret. Not only are they experiencing a terrible PR disaster right now, I am also assisting a large group of streamers and content creators in an opposition, pro bono (that means free), because I’m extra pissed about this one.

And I'm laughing at the notion that Sony tried to put a trademark on "Let's Play".
