Outside of Ascension the franchise is still very relevant. This game is getting the care and time it needs and Barlog who worked on GOW2 is on this one. I'm hype. I mean know the reveal will be stunning visually.
Yum, didn't realize Barlog was back on. What happened to Stig?
And perhaps I should have said relevant like it used to be, like God of War 2/3 relevant. Drake has very much become Sony's big boy.
Looking at gaming in general, Half-Life 3 absolutely is bigger.
Stig's working on a project for Respawn now. He left SSM after a game he was heading up got cancelled.
Oh that's right, so he's on TF2? Could be great if he's doing work on some sorta SP campaign, not sure what his MP credentials are, but damn if GoW3 ain't a great game.

Exactly. All Knack is, is the orb. They can make him look like anything. Hopefully Sony does right by the little guy. lol
Half Life 3 is only bigger in terms of being a meme.
Half-Life 3 is no where near FFVII Remake.
Half-Life 3 is no where near FFVII Remake.
This is true. A Half-Life 3 announcement would be so much bigger.
That's what I meant, the only category it's big in is the meme category. FFVII Remake was something else, not even speculated to be in developmentHalf-Life 3 is no where near FFVII Remake.
Why?
Half Life is certainly not more popular than Final Fantasy.
I'd argue that Half-Life 2 alone is bigger than most Final Fantasy games. In fact, FFVII is probably the only game that even comes close to it .
Why?
Half Life is certainly not more popular than Final Fantasy.
How so? Half Life as a franchise is big among the PC gamers, not so much among the average gamer, at least not as big as FFVII.
Are we talking about sales?
Sure, the Final Fantasy brand is bigger. It's been around a decade longer than Half-Life. But a Half-Life 3 announcement would easily be as big of a deal as the Final Fantasy VII Remake reveal and I'd argue it'd end up being bigger.
And if we're talking sales, it's really not a contest. HL3 would wipe the floor with FFVII Remake.
In no way do I think a HL3 reveal is much bigger than the FF7 remake. That game was an icon and the remake has been requested for as long as I can even remember.
I don't think HL3 has the same appeal to the broad consumer base as the FF7 remake.
But why? Final Fantasy is a lot more popular than Half Life. So why would HL3 would cause more of an impact than the FFVII remake announcement?
Half Life is mostly relevant to PC gamers, Final Fantasy VII is popular on basically every gaming crowd.
Half-Life isn't only relevant to PC players. The Orange Box was hugely successful on consoles last generation.
And Final Fantasy VII isn't popular with every gaming crowd. Come on now.
Stig is directing a Star Wars game
edit. damn it
Why?
Half Life is certainly not more popular than Final Fantasy.
Goddamn that game will be amazing.
Hl3 announcement would spread like wildfire, and you gotta consider how many people would jump onto a western developed shooter, vs anime/jrpg, which I would argue people prefer less as a genre.
More popular than Half Life on most gaming circles? Definitely.
The development and release of FFVII as a huge event in the gaming industry, mainly because of what it meant to the competition between Sony and Nintendo.
Half Life 2? It's a great game, sure, but an event? No way.
no way that HL among PS users is bigger and half as iconic than FF7
You're talking about events that literally took place 20 years ago. Final Fantasy VII is an incredibly important game but it's relevance today isn't nearly the same. The FFVII Remake announcement was huge for longtime gamers and the enthusiast crowd. Thing is, Half-Life 3 would be catering to a very similar demographic (enthusiasts) but I believe it would be a bigger deal.

Why in the world would Sony make a knack 2? I could see that reveal being the joke of E3.
I still think FF7 remake has the bigger impact.
Half-Life 2 has sold more copies than Final Fantasy VII. A lot more.
Because it moved units and made money.
I guess I'm trying to understand why there's a running joke around here of people really liking that game.
What? FFVII has sold tons more than Half-life 2.

Oh, if we're talking specifically PlayStation fans, I completely agree.
available for incredibly low prices many, many times. Plus it's on four or five different platforms.
Same with FFVII though. It's even on Steam now. PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Vita, Steam, iOS, and Android.I highly, highly, highly doubt it. Half-Life 2 has been available for incredibly low prices on Steam many, many times. Plus it's on four or five different platforms.
And how Half-Life relevant now? It is old as dirt too and the brand is dead.
So is FFVII
this is a pointless discussion imo.
What? FFVII has sold tons more than Half-life 2.
Well that's wrong. Half-Life 2 had sold over 12 million copies in 2011, Final Fantasy has sold 11 million copies last year.
I just wonder about a remake for a legendary game vs one of the most anticipated sequels ever, from one of the most popular devs ever. Think about the Half life shit they could throw into Dota, and Tf2, and CSGO. Reaching even more millions.
Ff7 sold over 11 millions half life 2 over 12 millions, less than 10% more it's not a lot moreHalf-Life 2 has sold more copies than Final Fantasy VII. A lot more.
The way I see it, although this year's conference may have fewer surprise gigatons, I would say it has more megatons and overall could match up to last year's conference. Though, to be fair, if Agent and Crash Bandicoot are revealed next week, I would say that comes close to matching the holy trinity. In addition, we have that Spiderman game, Red Dead 3, GOW4, DDR and more. Agent is the wild card here for me. The rest of the games are heavily rumoured to appear, but who's to say Agent didn't manage to slip under the radar? The entire reason people call Sony's E3 showing in 2015 the "Dreams" conference was due to three completely unexpected announcements. So, it would not be considered "Dreams 2.0" to most people.
A new Red Dead game is about as unsurprising as it gets.
I totally believe it, but where'd you get the Half-Life 2 numbers?

My only disappointment will be that ND likely won't show up at E3.
I agree, they'd both be huge.
