Thanks for the confirmation. It is what I thought but was just not 100% sure.

And indeed MaximusPayne, at least we still get 4K. I love this set overall, especially for the price I got it at (took advantage of a sale and Best Buy move coupon), but I just wish it handled blacks better. There is a decent amount of artifacting with blacks.

So perhaps a new TV for Christmas this year that does support HDR and my Vizio can go to my parents or something. They watch a hell of a lot more TV than we do and always appreciate a larger size.

Again thanks for the quick confirmation. The One S was still worth it so I have everything in one now and do not need multiple components for 4K content.

Try turning off Active LED zones and black detail to off in picture settings. I had to Google best settings for the set and now it's perfect. HDR is nice but I doubt my wife will let me get another set for a few years..lol.

The binding of isaac rebirth didn't recognize it as a known controller type, Headlander worked but it showed ds4 buttons & Song of the deep seemed to work. I haven't tested it more but so far it seems kind of bad compatibility wise.

Awesome. Will try this out as soon as I get home. It is literally my one and only gripe with the TV, and I even edited my post as it is not a major one, just there, so if I can make it better I am all for it. Thanks for the tip! I just set myself up an alarm to remind myself to check it out when I get home.

And pretty sure my wife will not be happy with getting a new set so soon either, which is why I am thinking SHE may be getting one for Christmas! haha
I may very well just hold off though. As nice as it would be to have it is nowhere near a necessity.

Get an HDMi 2.2 AVR... the Denon 2200W is what I have and I like it. It goes for $500 on Amazon, just keep in mind you still need speakers if you don't already have some.

That is horrible advice. DirtyLarry's Vizio is an FALD set. By turning off Active LED, then he's throwing away one of the key features of that set.

See above. I would strongly advise against turning off the Active LED zones. Black Detail to "off," though, is sound advice.

Regardless of owning a 4K TV.

Plenty of reasons to get one , I do not own a 4K TV yet because i want more details on a good 4KTV with actual HDR Gaming and low input lag.

Still worth an upgrade. (Much smaller, internal PSU, Improved Controller, Bigger internal storage 2TB, Incredible redesign)

Wow, that's a bummer.

I guess I'll wait if there'll be some updates on it. I expected it would be as solid as the old controllers, except with no dongles required.

For affordable LCD displays, look to the Vizio P-Series, Vizio M-Series, and the Samsung KS8000. If you have more money in your budget, then LG's OLED line is great. There's one model that has high input lag, but it escapes me at the moment.

Anyone else order the 500gb from GameStop.co.uk for £229? Mine still says "Confirmed" but there's been no updates, so I presume that's because there's no official EU release dates, rather than it just being canned. It was weird that it was listed and then removed, even though the 2TB stayed up.

Just curious if you have a Vizio set? Look it up. Most calibration settings tell you to turn it off. It's a great set with a great picture. Active LED is just another feature to put on the box. It's not bad but doesn't really help either.

As a long time P series owner most say turn it off While Calibrating. Once you get it set you turn it back on it looks like ass with it off.

The P series is specifically designed to have the active LED on i don't know where you are getting your calibration settings but whoever is giving them to you doesn't know what they are talking about.

Yes, as amatter of fact I do. Vizio P-65-C1. I don't need to "look it up" as I already know what "Active LED" does. It turns off all FALD zones. DirtyHarry's set has 32 FALD zones and by telling him to turn it off, he's turning his HDTV into a backlit mess of grey-blacks and poor contrast.

As for calibrating, you should still have Active LED on. Otherwise you're calibrating to a picture that is vastly different and much worse than the display under its normal operating conditions.

I really can't explain it any more clearly than this:

Active LED = FALD Off

That alone should close the book on the matter.

See my statement above. I would kick an ISF calibrator out of my house if s/he tried to calibrate with FALD off; it's just not indicative of the display's actual operating environment.

I was going to get the 2016 LG OLED until i read about and saw reports of all the judder in streaming.

I stream a lot on Netflix and HULU and will go crazy if i drop $4-6k on TV that cannot even stream properly.

I got home with mine and while setting it up I tried connecting to wireless and every time it did that it reboot the console and started over. It did this three times. I had to pull out my long lan cable and connect it so that the Xbox would go through the connection screen and start updating.

I hope this doesn't mean wireless is boned on this system I got.

In regards to calibration, yes, I, too, have heard some say to turn off FALD, in addition all of the other post-processing features. I, of course, agree with the former, but not the latter. I've been trying to think of a good analogy that would better conceptualize it than the blunt way I've been putting it. And I'll be damned if I can't think of one.

Here's what RTings has to say on the matter:

What is your opinion on calibration with FALD? Do you have it off for calibration? I would think it would throw off the bt.1886 standard quite a bit.

It depends on the TV. Most of them can be calibrated with FALD on, but it will really depend on your window size. For example, a 2% window will definitely throw off the gamma curve when you turn on local dimming. You should be fine with 18%.

You are correct on the part that HDR is part of the UHD specification. And DirtyLarry's Vizio will happily accept such a signal. However, it does not have HDR capability. He'll still benefit from 4K and the DCI-P3 color palette (though how much of it I cannot say).

No problem. It's nice to get corrected sometimes. You learn something. Just to make sure...this applies to all vizio lines because I have the M series. Gonna go home later and tweak some things before I get the 500gb One S!

My TV is the 4K Vizio M50-C1 from 2015.
Going to assume there will be no HDR in my immediate future.
