This doesn't look anything like Unity. To make Unity look like this would take customization time that devs wouldn't undertake almost certainly.

What makes you think it's Unity? Their own engine (or Phyre) makes more sense.

It's not Unity.

Also, another player is near me on PS4. They just discovered a solar system and I'm right by it. *fires up firewall packet capture*

I say it is because of the headers on each file that is being used unless Phyre uses MXML and XML for all types of files then I'm all unity still. That and gameview is something unity shows during project building.

Depends is there a exe for a phyre made game on the PC?

People make the weirdest strawman arguments, to push their points... No one is asking for a massive MMO. People wanted the slim chance of seeing another character (like Journey/DS/etc) in game. It adds to the wonder and discovery. That feature, after all this digging through files, still doesn't seem to exist, even though it was stated, numerous times by Sean, to exist.

It's not that hard to understand.
Do you know what MMO means? I'm not sure you understand.

If we are all online together sharing the universe and able to randomly run into each other... It would be a Massively Multiplayer Online game... Going to the same spot on the same planet and seeing each other immediately... Every time... Is not like Dark Souls at all.

But... Being able to rename everything and leave messages in those names is quite a bit like Dark Souls.. Actually.

So is anymore work being done in this area to uncover any other features or mechanics the community hasn't yet uncovered? Like multiplayer, portals, progression beyond galaxy hopping, bigger ships, etc?

Sean mentioned lobbies, so it won't be hosting all those players at once.

And a game where you only encounter a handful of people at a time is not a "MMO", nor has it ever been called that.

I've had a look, and I can't find any of the above. Uhm, sorry?

I've managed to parse the language files correctly. You can read all the lore, decisions branches, items, planet types, etc.

Apparently you can sleep in game? Under the list of interactions (INTRCT_) one is titled INTRCT_SLEEP (AS YOU SLEEP YOU ARE RESTORED BY A STRANGE POWER).
I've found that monolith. It makes you sleepy. You can choose to succumb to the sleepiness or fight it off.

Sandworms for one are there. Like any good claim, you can go check for yourself. Hint: Do a global filename search on SANDWORM. You'll find everything about them (if you want it spoiled).

What you are now describing isn't the same thing that people seemed to be expecting.

What's described in that article is nothing remotely similar to meeting up with your friends and exploring together. If people expected to encounter every player they ran into the game would have to constantly track everyone in the universe and would have to function as an MMO.

Lobbies and the like with random low percentage of likelihood encounter would not be an MMO, it's also not what a lot of people were expecting or wanting and are now upset about.

Nost, co-op multiplayer like you're describing is not in the game. It just isn't.
I realize. You encounter other people by their actions. Not by actually seeing their characters moving around.

I just don't understand how anyone expected to be able to run into every other player on any random planet and explore the universe together without also expecting it to function as an MMO.

I mean, they expected being able to run run into someone and being able to play alongside people because the developers said you could. That's not that hard to understand, I don't think.

There seems to be strings here for the afaik-yet-inactive Portals to test you via requests from Ancients of the three different sentient races. The Ancients will demand information about the status of their descendants and you must choose to flatter, tell the truth, or admit ignorance, and if you choose correctly the portal will open. AFAIK portals currently just do nothing, give no text at all? So this might be waiting for a patch to open up.

Similarly, there seems to be a LOT more ATLAS_ lines (as in lines the ATLAS would deliver itself?) than what I would expect to be in the game, from what I understand of how the 'atlas path' plays out. There also seems to be some text meant for the 'ending' (or perhaps an alternate/true ending?) that afaik has never been seen.

I pulled out all the critical Spatial Anomaly (Nada&Polo) lines, here.

\SCENES\CREATURESTUPIDNAMETABLE.MBIN
  • TOBY MOLE-ISH
  • JIM RYAN-ASAURUS
  • HUGE-HEI YOSHIDA
  • MARTIN CRAB-ZL
\SCENES\CREATURESTUPIDNAMETABLEPS4.MBIN
  • LITTLE BIG PLATYPUS

  • GIANT TURISMO
  • CRAB BANDICOOT
  • MY LITTLE SONY

What did you have to do for it to affect you? Just stand around it long enough? Also, what choice did you make?
I activated a marker near it.
I chose to sleep. The ancient spirits healed me.

a child version of myself crawled out of another one pleading for my to stay. I chose to reassure him and explain that I couldn't stay. Another melted open revealing untold treasures, I chose not to reach in for anything and was awarded a blueprint. Yet another had swarms fly out of it and I had to choose how to react to them.

A child emerges from the monolith. It takes a few moments before I realise that... it's me. I look carefree and innocent. The little one stares up at my exosuit, and tries to see me through my visor. The child suddenly starts to weep, and clings to my knees. It implores me never to leave. It doesn't want to be alone. I should stay here forever. We should be reunited. Whole again once more.

This specifically? Were you paraphrasing or was that literal?

Yes, that's it. I was paraphrasing from memory.

I also got 3 of 4 of those. Note these are not actions ( Im guess you are wondering when you said "Apparently you can sleep in the game?" in you OP) These are just written stories that you chose a written action for

I wonder if there's any way to find where "%RACE% is being drawn from. It's interesting this is variablized at all, with only 3/3.5 races.

That's some beast paraphrasing. For a second I thought the text I had was paraphrasing you!
To be fair, I was describing four separate monolith experiences.

I just had one that
had a doppelganger come out that I could either shoot or give him my multitool...

I wonder if you were suppose to start off as the monkey, and as you follow the path of the Atlas you evolve to the Human in the original vision of this game

Can you packet capture what happens when you warp to a new system, and when you touch down on a planet, and when you approach a portal?

Thanks in advance, even if you don't get around to doing it ;)
