How's Parasyte? I saw it's on sale on Comixology. Looks like it has some crazy body horror going on

If you're reading it digitally, does it go right to left in the Comixology version? I kind of can't stand that with manga...

AMAZING. I have fallen in love with that series. Went through the show and the manga last year and had a blast. Don't know anything about comiXology manga though.

Is that a sexual innuendo?

Sometimes amazon dates are late. IST and LCS's may have trades earlier.

Yea ill have to look around man. I love the idea of having the comic out to hype folks for the game but as a trade reader it doesn't quite work haha.

I read the volume 3 of Harrow County earlier. It's a bit of a side volume, expanding on the world and fleshing out some of the side characters a bit more, and continuing to tease even more mysteries. There was some guest art in this volume too, from Carla Speed McNeil and Hannah Christenson to compliment the feel of it being a bit of a sidestep volume. I enjoyed both artists, Christenson especially who I wasn't familiar with before now, although I think she's worked on the mouse guard anthologies previously.

Overall, I've had a good experience with the series through the three trades. I mentioned before, I don't think it'll blow or change minds, but I thought it was a good enjoyable book with a lot of ideas and a strong emotional backbone even if it moves a little briskly at times and it's not super deep. I love the sense of place they've managed to build up over the first year and the creepy little stories within the larger narrative have been great. I'll keep going with it for sure.

Seeing people complain about modern comics being too SJW is baffling to me as I'm going through old school Spider-Man and Claremont's X-Men. Spider-Man is progressive as shit when it comes to racial issues even when Stan's writing is filled with good ol' 60s/70s sexism and his female characters are generally pretty poor (though MJ is actually decent!). I mean, Jameson not being a racist is a big fucking deal and one of the arcs (with already-mentioned terrible writing for Gwen) is about a "law and order" candidate (reminds me of Trump...) who is explicitly a fascist and a racist.

Then you have X-Men, which doesn't really need any explanation. Except for the fact that just recently I read an issue where Claremont makes a direct comparison between the word "mutie" and the n-word, going so far as to have Kitty Pryde actually say the word itself. I'd seen the page before but always thought it was some meme image made on 4chan, but nope it's actually in the comic itself and it's honestly pretty shocking. I don't think modern Marvel would actually go that far today. Though honestly Claremont's tackling of mutant racism is legitimately astounding. You really, really feel the hatred coming from the normal humans.

You mean "The Greatest". That's what they call her.
They keep trying to push her like shes this big important character, then have Bendis write her as this whiny bitch who throws her weight around, then cries when she doesnt get her way.

Stop it Marvel, she isnt important, nobody likes her and if you want people to give a damn about her get a non shitty writer to write her.

I literally can't believe these two posts happened right next to each other.

God damn, Civil War is terrible.

Consistently terrible. He writes Carol so terribly.
I have come to the conclusion that I just hate Bendis' writing.
He makes everyone sound like they are in an episode of Friends or something.

Everyone is so out of character it doesnt really matter.
And this is Marvels big front and centre book....

Dammit! Knew I should have waited for that instead of the TPBs.

It's kind of obvious they're going to do it. Especially when the whole series is 12 issues like that. An all-inclusive volume is a no-brainer. Especially given how Marvel likes to repackage content.

Carol Danvers is legit the best worst character Marvel has. She was much more tolerable when she was in the butt-floss costume.

That's actually a really good description of this week's CWII

Like the middle of an episode of Friends. I might re-read it with a laugh track and see if it helps

I totally get what Kelly Sue was trying to do with the character, not that it always worked, but I understood it. Since she left it doesn't seem like they have any idea.

I really hope they're just trying to stall until the movie people can figure it out for them.

Since they put her in a more dignified costume, they're trying to make her almost Captain America-like in moral fiber. Which is fine, I get that. But the way she's being written is nothing short of fucking obnoxious.

Maybe they were but not anymore. Cap would never support any of this precrime nonsense.

Okay, who else played Episode 3 of Telltale Batman? I am legit shook after that reveal.

That episode was insane and not always in a good way. Frank Miller Batman & Robin insane. WGN insane. The People vs. OJ Simpson insane.

Oh yeah, Batman is also this guy now apparently:

Yep. Batman is Chris fucking Klein.

Also Guardians of the Galaxy why are you even there?
Universe not big enough?
Nothing better to do?

Its like a sitcom where someone opens a door with 'hey guys look who it is!'

'It's Peter fucking Quill!'

That reveal, though. I never expected that. Ever.
Also, we see how Harvey turned into a villain. Bruce Wayne boned his girlfriend
.

oh no, she very much still believes she has the moral high ground, which is why she's coming off as obnoxious now.

Yeah she does, but lots of characters think they have that moral fiber but they don't. For another example, in the latest issue of Cap: SW,
Flag-Smasher.
It doesn't make those characters Captain America-like. Their actions reflect who they really are. Carol's actions reflect a person who has crossed lines Cap would never cross.

(I'm talking about pre-Hydra Steve of course. Who knows with this guy)

I have to say I'm kinda into the Hydra Steve thing now. It's a pretty cool twist and they're telling an interesting, inventive story with it. Spencer is making it work. This week's issue was great. The flashback with
Kraken
was so incredibly well written.

That thing you're talking about was fantastic. That second thing? Awful. So hammy and weird. It's so hammy and weird and shitty it's good.

ITS JUST SEX DAMNIT
and it was creepy and forced as shit. Best worst love triangle ever.

KSD didn't write her as if she was a terrible person. She wrote her as a person who almost cared too much. Bendis just can't write her to save his life
I would argue that wasn't her before KSD.
Nah, he writes everybody out of character

He even has Carol have a dig at Tony's alcoholism, despite being one herself.
I wouldn't go as far as to say he writes everyone out of character and in Iron Man they had a nice issue together involving an AA meeting.

I've said it multiple times this past week, but If Spencer keeps it up this will go down as one of the best Cap runs.

I just think KSDs version is easily the most likable and the one I enjoyed most.

Bendis writes Carol terribly. Bendis writes Gamora terribly. Bendis has the public hand wave the bullshit Carol has been doing with a quick "but you're keeping us safe!".

Man I don't know the only interesting stuff about this event has been related to Captain America everything else has been grade A shit, I've never felt so divorced from a main event before this.

I hope Monsters Unleashed is just fun and drama free because I've had about enough of where the Marvel Universe is right now.

Y'all act like Carol being trash is something new

While this is true I didn't actually mind her run pre Captain Marvel that went through Secret Invasion.

Civil War 2: Where (75%) of the tieins are much better than the main book. Because those tie ins address the main problem with the actual war...including Bendis Spider Man
