NieR Automata PS4 demo available now

Loved every moment of the demo.

Two questions though:
  • Are we expecting any way to turn off the black bars/subtitles/both?
  • Is this demo a part of the story? Do they both actually die in-game?

Yup it's that automatically if you run it on a Pro.

Nice. Looking forward to starting to get games which have had Pro in mind for abit longer while in development. None of this no supersampling "BUT ITS GOT A 4K UI" rubbish we're getting on older stuff. Glad this is looking like getting proper pro support. Does it have a 4K mode or is it pure 1080 60 with bells and whistles?

1) The first one did not gave that option, but that of course doesn't have to mean anything.
2) Uncertain, but Yorha 2-B is already the second incarnation of hers, after the first one died prior in a different mission in pretty much the exact same way.
3) They will probably either way lol

What an amazing demo! Combat is fluid as hell, and the amount of variations in combat and set pieces in this small demo was completely mind blowing. Loved that ending too!
Really impressed!

I would have liked the option to have lock-on in hard modes though, but since it is attached to the shooting mechanic, I can see why they chose to turn it off. I did manage to get the hang of no lock on by the end of it, so yeah.

Anyway, bring on the full game!

Awesome demo! Didn't exactly make the wait any easier, because now I just want more to play. Black Box Edition justified.

Demo was awesome felt like a better version of NieR. The camera's shifting to the different perspectives and using the droid as Weiss. Was kinda bummed I couldn't punch the boss when I had the jetpack on but man that moment when we get the left arm as a weapon reminded me of MGR Excelsius fight but done in the way I imagined it.

So any platinum fans that can tell me how's the gameplay? Platinum is the only reason I'm interested in this

From what's in the demo. it doesn't have the depth of a typical Platinum character action game. The available move-sets and combos for the two weapons are fairly limited. Regardless the game feels great to play for an action rgp. The base game will likely have more pods(one button super moves) and weapons which will add more variety. I expect this will end up being a great action rpg but don't go in expecting the usual Platinum character action game.

Haven't downloaded it yet but the streams make this game look yummy. Great music.

I didn't thought OHM is actually a One-Hit-Mode, i thought it's like Revengeance difficulty in which one hit drains you entire lifebar but you could still save yourself with healing items if you had them in the quickslots.

Would be a lot more fun if you wouldn't have to go through the start up loading screen and menu every single time you die, but the release is probably gonna have a few checkpoints there.

I love it, because it puts a level of danger on even the smallest of enemies.

That said, i'll do my first playthrough on hard because i wanna go through the story without too much frustration, then when i reached the last ending i'll do a new playthrough on OHM.*

*Assuming you won't need to do at least one playthrough of that to get to the last ending anyways lol

Hope you're not including the latest platinum/activision action games in there, 'cause they weren't exactly diamonds.

Absolutely fantastic demo! Anyone know if there are any other usable weapons in the demo other than the starting ones? I swear I checked everywhere but didn't find any, and I don't think you can buy any in the demo?

I never found anything, but you can un-equip what you have and use your fists - Which are pretty dope.

I can't wait to see how Yoko trolls Platinum fans.

Yeah i have a few friends who are totally into this game, but never tried anything from Taro before.

As someone who played Nier and Drakengard 1/3, i tried to tell them that Yoko Taro is one of the GOAT game directors, but now i'll just sit down and enjoy watch them getting mindfucked.

Great news for Germans who don't have PS+. If you download the game from the Japanese store (for free) the game starts in German right away. You don't even have to change any settings. :)
Others here mentioned they apparently had to first navigate through Japanese menus and switch the language to English.

Premise: I'm a button masher not a technical player in any shape or form so take my considerations as such.

The combat feels really good, more fluid than say... Bayonetta which in some combos felt like you were struck in the move's animation waiting for it to complete.
Dodge timing seems very forgiving and the overall style is something that i like.
Too bad for the shooting mechanic, it feels intricate to use effectively but maybe i just need to get used to it.

It's crazy how much more engaging this demo is on Hard mode. I quite literally almost fell asleep playing yesterday on Normal, but I'm having a great time now that I've ratcheted up the difficulty. Enemy behavior is much more aggressive.

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
it's does have DARK SOULS kinda vibe for me :)

why USA preorder 59,99$ while EU 69,99? NOT FAIR :)

When DMC5 comes out, we're gonna have newcomer people asking "is this game like Dark Souls and Bloodborne!?" and i'm just going to be pulling my hair out

Cause now every game that has action combat is now compared to From's games.

nono, the game will be pretty much this for all of it.

its when New game plus starts that we get the cooking mama and rhythm games about how shitty we are and how we should be sorry about everything.

What if the twist is
at the end of the game you warp back to Drakengard's world and die there after you fight a giant boss

I really hope the 20 pages of positive impressions from people who mostly never have played Nier translates well into sales lol.

With the combined purchase power of Taro fans and P* fans this game might even be financially successful.

Does the demo give any idea on the rpg elements of the game or is it just combat?

I still need to play the first game before this comes out, still got it sealed from just after launch

You level once in the demo.

You can also take a look a the chip based skill system, altho there isn't a lot of things you can do in the demo with it, as you don't acqurie new chips in it as it looks.
