And
at the last boss when I had that mech guy was there anything to do besides shoot? I could swing the big ass sword but not hit anything? Seemed kind of lame.
I may have just not known wtf I was doing though.

The best part about it for my house was easy mode where it automates almost everything. My 3 year old daughter went through it pretty easily (aside from navigating the stairs) and I could tell she felt like a badass so that was cool.

You could use your heavy attack, which would send a energy blade at the mech. That's about it though.

Kinda hope you could cancel into changing weapons sets. Would be kinda broken, but would look super cool.

You can, I'm pretty sure. At least, I think what I did was canceling. (I'm bad w/ video game terminology at times.) I used the customization to put the weapon switch button on R2, so that way it was very easy for me to both attack and switch sets whenever I want.

I disagree.

Thats the best goddamn track I have heard in years on a game.

When that last phase of the boss started with this music I felt something I havent felt since I played the Bayonetta demo all those years ago.
I disagree

On a sidenote, I really enjoy everything about the demo except for some of the level designs. The design is areas seem quite empty at times, looking often unfinished and bland; remember Revengeance looking the same way.

This game is going to be amazing. I need to get around to finishing the first one before March 7th though. Pretty sure I had just finished the
mansion right after the time skip
.

My favorite piece of music is actually the title screen track, which is atmospheric ambient noise that gets outside of the fairly narrow range of the "Nier sound".

I was primarily thinking of the level OST which is pretty weak compared to something like The Wretched Automatons from Nier despite both being from industrial levels. At times I thought my sound system was out of whack due to how laid back and quiet the vocals were.

I agree the title music is outside of the 'Nier sound' but it doesn't really do much for me.

My god..... this is amazing. Better than 90% of 2016 games.

Coming out of nowhere.

Edit: The boss fight is amazing. Better than 99% of this generation games!!!!!!!!!!

Never in my life have I used the claw-grip before to play a game.

This was pretty fun, despite having nether played the prequel and having no idea whatsoever what is going on, the combat is great.

Is this the ending of the game lol ?! Do they die !? haha

Going off the other games in these series it's just the games opening prologue section.

Maybe Scalebound needs to happen so Kamiya can unlock a new combat engine to use for the next 15 years. I like the shooting aspect of it, but it feels like what we've seen before but somehow worse. Good for an ARPG tho for sure.

Dialogue is total anime tropesville, but the story seems like it could be neat.

The removal of lock-on for Hard/Very Hard mode is disappointing. The analog stick controls are simply not satisfactory for both aiming your ranged attack and traditional character action gameplay simultaneously.

Also, the controls are unusually sloppy for Platinum. Lock-on is a toggle if it's put on L3, but becomes a hold when it's on L2? Why can't I decide that instead?

That being said, when the game's combat clicks, it's insanely good. It really feels old-school arcadey at times when you're fighting enemies and there's a large spawn of them. The fact that Very Hard basically has stuff one-shot you reinforces this element.

If I get this, I'd probably get it for PC because I can use the Steam Controller to correct all these annoying control issues myself. Plus turning fire into a toggle instead of having to hold it all the time.

Tap L2 instead of holding for toggle.

Yep, especially with FFXV recently releasing. They are in the same group for sure. Fighting multiple enemies isn't as hectic in this game as well, it flows well, there's more attack buttons, there's a dodge which also acts as a run, and so much feels so right (especially compared to FFXV Judgement Demo for me). It also has a harder modes, I can see myself playing very hard in the future as well. SE could patch in a limited items mode for FFXV at least, they added the stop leveling ring at least. Imagine if FFXV had combat that felt this fluid and visibly easy to follow (camera).

I didn't even use the lock on in this game at first. Knowing the harder modes didn't have it I figured I'd get used to not relying on it.

Yeah agreed. FFXV is imprecise and the combos, while present, make little to no difference to the actual outcome.

This demo however blew me away. Even a few fights into the first playthrough I could feel myself improving and discovering new techniques. Controls are tight and allow for interesting movement options and flexibility. The bullet-hell aspects are unique and brilliant and add another dimension to encounters.

I love Platinum and had high hopes for this, but after the disappointment of FFXV was tempering my expectations. This demo is fantastic though, so I'm in full hype mode and can't wait to play the full game :)

Just finished the demo.

It was everything I expected which is a good thing in this case :)

Kinda wished the levels were a little more detailed. At least have some destructible objects or something. Otherwise, combat is great. Big ass boss was big. Platinum at their finest.

Done with the demo and my jaw still is firmly on the ground.

P.T. move over. This is my new favorite demo ever. I'm taking the day off from work just to play this on March 7th.

I'm fanboying a bit, but my God that was amazingly awesome.

Then this sounds like one of the more flat tracks in the original Nier OST. It's fairly snooze worthy.

I remember Nier as a real sad and melancholy time, and the soundtrack contributed a lot to those emotions. It fitted the story of that guy. This demo mission being all combat time it's pretty limited what can play to keep tensions high. There aren't that many tracks to chose from by the demo alone, i'd rather hear more about the music from trailers too.
Going by that one other boss battle showed of at E3 dynamic music is gonna be a thing with boss phases and it already showed pretty nice results.
I want some quiet time for the Androids but at least i know boar-riding at 60 fps is gonna be fun times.

Judging by all the people having never played the original NieR - me included - and going from possibly having it on their radar to Day One, I'd say this demo more than did its job.

Great blend of genres, keeps the gameplay feeling really fresh

Demo is great. I especially love the relentless pace it keeps.

I tired it on my friend's OG PS4 after trying it on my PS4 Pro. It felt like frame-rate took a hit couple of times on OG, like 55 range. Nothing too bad. Could be placebo though.

glad to see people getting into nier

Why are the standard robot enemies so cute. Especially when they do their arm spinning attack.

That's the only problem I have with this game.

Could it be that the design is intentional?

Any way to turn off the numbers when you hit enemies? I thought that was just something for the FFXV sword.
The guest weapons only have custom effect. But you can customize the visible info quite a bit from the in-game menu, including the floating damage numbers. You can even terminate yourself by removing your OS-chip (instant gameover). :D

You can access the HUD customization from Skills - Plug-In Chips

Emotions are prohibited.

First impression was not good, then i changed to control type A and love it!

Not very sure about the weird camera angles and the art style/graphics was a bit basic.

The boss fight was kind of lame, but overall this was a very strong first taste of the game, could even become GOTY

One thing concerns me is the 60/40 ratio in terms of combat in the full game. I don't understand how the game is more rpg than action/combat.

When I initially watched the fight all I could think about was how it's meant to be defeated. Looks like nothing struck a weak point, except for one explosion around the bottom area of the mechanical dress which didn't appear to do much.

The lack of enemy reactions when hitting them in general was a common complaint during that time in developement. I wanna see what the fight and the next phase looks like.
