Good point, when is the last time we seen or heard anything about Crackdown?

This is where my head went right away after seeing this news. Really looking forward to Crackdown but what we've seen so far leaves me very, very skeptical, especially after this news. Originally billed as a 'power of the cloud' title I assume it's going to be the Scorpio launch title at this point?

If they lose Scalebound and Crackdown 2017 would not look good for Xbox.

There had to be a transformers fanboy executive at activision. That game was no where near Korra or Turtles.

This is a huge win for me TBH
(Since I've never watched TNMT, never will)
Platimun will probably never, ever make any exclusives with the turtles ever again.

So any if not all Platinum games will go to Transformers.
It's a great win for me and Transformers.

* Finger's crossed Transformers get this exclusive -just re-skin the characters.

There is a writer on twitter saying he was close to one of the platinum devs and says they were played pretty much the same way the Phantom Dust devs were. They were given insane milestones and withheld funding for the past year. So that seems to be MS's go to when they want to get out of a contracted game.

fucked up if true

The optional cloud computing this is, and always has been, something of a joke for those with a little network savvy.

This is bad if true. Part of the reason why the whole competition is good thing is a joke. What's more important is who is actually competing and what the competitors are doing for the health of the industry overall. This type of behavior puts devs out of business and hurts the industry.

Since I talked about this I should probably post the twitter.

Link

He seems pretty open and identified but who knows.

What's his twitter?
And if this is true, well a really shitty move by Spencer and co.

Posted above had to go find him again. Seems to work with CNET AU.

Wow, I knew Sony was killing it, but it's not even a contest. I feel like there has to be something not right here, haha.

Looks to me like Microsoft doesn't really give a shit.

They have the money. They're choosing not to invest... Couple that with the emergence of Windows 10 gaming. Certainly makes you wonder.

Yeah, I mean..My interest died the moment we saw gameplay. The game was obviously a mess and killing it was probably the right thing to do.
But things aren't looking very exciting for Microsoft right now.

Rip platinum

The one-size-fits-all approach is a terrible way to do things. It limits your platform's scope and breadth of content. Only a handful of games could do it.

Sports games could do it, EASILY.

Online Shooters could do it, EASILY.

Fighters can't. Platformers can't. RPG's can't. Action games can't. But then again, I'm left wondering 'what's left anymore?'

They got KI doing just that.

That is a real shame, it was the only Xbox One title I was looking forward to!

It getting put on PC was a big bonus to me, but if it's actually cancelled, I will be sad.

Scalebound is a surprisingly important title for one that was decried as awful every time it was demoed.

I thought it had potential, but wanted to see a lot more before getting super hyped about it.

Scalebound was literally the only reason I wanted an Xbox One before they announced the Live Anywhere initiative. I sold my Xbox One but realized that was a mistake when I realized how inconsistent and usually horrible UWP games were and Backwards Compatibility was announced so I was willing to get a cheap boxing day S model as my Scalebound and BC machine but this news really ruined my day. It's one of a few 2017 releases that I was really excited for despite some of the jankiness in the demos. Business is business though and I accept that but it still hurts. 😢

What?

You have no idea on what led to this situation? For all we know it's a case of "this game ain't ever getting made without leadership from Kamiya"

And if Kamiya needs time to get into a better place with his mental health then I'll take cancellations across the board.

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

It's also worth remembering the project automatically ballooned from an Xbox One title to having to support all manner of PC's because that became Microsoft's new direction with "Xbox".

This all becomes hilarious when remembering Microsoft splashes cash like a maniac with things like $26.6 billion on LinkedIn.

"Ohhhh, couldn't hit that virtually impossible milestone ehhhhhh? Too bad."

Oh and I see Arthur Gies is being a total dickhead on Twitter again about this. Quelle surpris.

I like how patterns for MS mean something but with Platinum it's all the publishers fault. Everything they've released since Bayonetta 2 has been poor to average at best when they used to make consistently amazing titles that felt really unique.

Also, say what you will about MS pulling funding, but it doesn't change the fact that most of the big risks they've made over the last couple of generations (particularly with Japanese studios) have all flopped in some regard. It's not too surprising they're sticking to safer strategies even if it means that the game division's just going to suffer a slightly slower death.
3 of those games listed are tie ins on a string budget, one of which is actually good (Transformers).
Bayonetta 2, came out only 2 years ago, is a masterpiece.

Nier is also looking great from the demo.

When they are given the resources they are very likely to deliver, there's your pattern.

It true, then why the hell is MS burning bridges like this?

I didn't have much interest in Scalebound, but it's still a damn shame. Hope Platinum have something else to work on.

Another canned Xbox project btw. Wonder how projects actually get greenlit these days at MS.

Edit; Kamiya's mental health? What?

Scalebound itself wasn't that important. It is what it represented that matters... I swear the next major project/group to be canned is probably going to be Rare. And growing up with Rare, that would be pretty tragic.

Like the day that Sega exited the gaming market. And yes, they are still there, but they really aren't.

MMORPGs are kinda the RPG version of that type of game though, and they do pretty good. But yeah, it doesn't work for all types of games.

I feel like we need some updates to the OP or some sticky posts particularly for:

- cuphead will not/can not get canceled, its independent
- Microsoft owns the Scalebound IP so Sony or Nintendo can't save it

I'm worried about X-Box, I feel like if Scorpio won't change things significantly for them than that's it, they are out.

The AAA industry would be in big trouble if such thing happens, Sony alone can't hold AAA gaming :(

This should be interesting as I have a feeling we're going to be seeing people at Platinum and Microsoft point the finger at the other party. Microsoft is going to be saying that Platinum was having technical problems and were out of their depth. They'll probably the cite the month long vacation and milestones as evidence of that. Platinum on the other hand will likely be saying the milestones were impossible and Microsoft cut off funding and support. Hopefully we get some quality sneak fuck work and get a solid article out of this.

This is going to be bitter.
