So... what the hell is going to happen to Virtual Console? What about WiiU digital games bought? Thy didn't answer a ton of shit but make way for Yakuza guy and Suda51 to talk anything and show nothing.

I thought was pretty much understood that any digital purchase on a Nintendo console pretty much remained locked to the hardware it was downloaded to. They're not at Microsoft BC level. Doubt they ever will be.

Did I miss my chance to pre-order? I jumped on Amazon as soon as the conference ended and it wasn't available to pre-order yet. I waited around a bit, and nothing, so I set it to notify me when it was. Then I hear people saying pre-orders are sold out. I got no email, and Amazon is still showing it as not available.

Exactly. The pipeline doesn't seem too optimised. The have precise release dates just for 3 1st party games.

Really is strange. I mean it's doubtful they are holding much back either, because if they were why not at least tease it when trying to sell people on your new console?

If they waited till Summer and left this fiscal year as it is, investors probably would have started calling for heads.

That's on them not having anything meaningful for software on Wii U to help pad out the long wait. Also I THINK NES mini is still sold out I think they would be fine, especailly with record breaking pokemon sales, and the nice little spurt of cash from Super mario run.

Seriously they could have held out couple months and released breadth of the wild on wii u in march for people to play and get some revenue and good buzz, and had switch set for June near E3 which would have been smart as buzz would have been high. And they could have done sneak releases for games.

But it's Nintendo and they will never learn.

People need to slow down with the droughts, it remains to be seen obviously, but games are in the works
People said to wait for this presentation to show all the games. Then the games didn't show up.

Now they're gonna say to wait for E3, and the games won't show up there either.

I'm gonna preorder for sure, but after the great reveal video this event really left me a bit sour. Paid online, very expensive controllers and slim pickings for games available. I have a good PC and PS4 Pro, so Switch is going to be another exclusive machine for me. I just wish they would've left the gimmicks to a minimum.

This gif is going to get a lot of use in Nintendo threads in the future.

It's hard to fathom how much of a fuck up this presentation was. Expensive HW, super expensive accessories, no pack in, paid online, console pricing on games. The switch is an expensive prospect and just has so many parts that are likely to turn away buyers.

The SW line-up is awful at launch and isn't good enough for the first year. Nintendo abandoned the wii U and have released fuck all for it in a little over a year and have been slowly winding down 3DS support. Where the hell are the games?

3rd party support seems worse than I was expecting. I'm hoping that there is plenty more to be announced at a later date because right now the release schedule is barren.

Even the design of the game cases is disappointing :/.

This is a hard sell even for hardcore fans. In a way it's exactly what I want. All of nintendos games on one system and I can pick up the console and go. I love cartridges as well. I feel eventually I will really love this thing but my hype is gone right now.

My main concern is the mass market. This has failure written all over it. I'm hoping this isn't a spectacular failure out of the gate but I'm not confident.

LOL the presentation is so cheesy and not in a good way

I dunno if this thing is going to do well, maybe I'd have to see the joycons in person, they look so tiny

And making a big deal about different colours so early in the show, whyyyy

Same shit they did with the Wii U. We were expecting this amazing lineup after the wii being dead for years, instead we got Nintendoland....
What's crazy to me is that Arms and 1-2 Switch look so uninspiring that they make Nintendoland look like an all time great in retrospect.

Note: I rather liked Nintendoland, but still. You get what I mean.

The rest of the conference softened the $300 blow for me but coming back to it...

Wow ):

I'm getting one but I might finally buy that Nintendo will die soon...

How hard is it to do 20 minutes of tech talk, and then a sizzle reel of 20-30 games. Nothing released on the WiiU this year. Nintendo should have a lot to show.

Xenoblade 2 looked terrible. It looked like it was reusing Wii/3DS Assets.

Essentilly the Switch is a 100 dollar tablet + 200 dollars worth of accessories.

nah

I have a feeling this is going to overperform GAF's expectations.

Heck, I am probably going to pre-order one of these and I haven't bought a piece of Nintendo hardware since the Wii.

Almost as good as Beyond Good & Evil 2

I mean both of those things are as good as confirmed given just how much noise surrounds them. Why they didn't show here is another thing. But the rumor was that the Rabbids game got pushed from launch to later in the year. And BG&E2 is so far away that it could easily be saved as an E3 thing.

First, what are talking about "what I want to here"? I'm not a 12 year old Nintendo fanboy. Grow up with that console wars shit. I'm trying to be analytical and figure out what's going on.

Second, I didn't say anything about 'natively in the OS'. I said via an app which Switch will also likely be able to run. THAT is a very Nintendo thing to do (like they do with WiiU, essentially).

The two reasons you gave are;

1) Technical OS reasons
2) Nintendo thinks kids don't have phones

1 doesn't exist in 2017 and 2 isn't true otherwise they wouldn't have released Pokemon Go.

And like I said YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT, but until I here a valid plausible reason and see "Chat and invites not available on console" written in black and white, I'll wait before losing my shit, thanks.

the wording is crystal clear in the documentation they have released. Again, I ask you, if hte App can run natively what is the point of releasing it separately for smart devices? Who would say "Nah I don't want to voice chat through my Switch let me download this app to my phone". What would be the point of it?

it's actually bizarre to me that mario kart 8 goes without a trailer and gets shoved into a rushed sizzle reel at the end. i get that it's a port with changes, but it's the wii u's best-seller and one of nintendo's most prolific franchises.

i feel like the switch had a lot of software that could have fleshed out the conference better, but they focused an agonizing amount of time on two games and four presenters while they dumped all of the other stuff they're doing at the end of the show.

Wow you're right, or as a mini game in FeelThe magic.

What is it with Nintendo and launches, they haven't has a good launch lineup since the GameCube, and that was ok.

This is their best launch window I feel. Not seeing any great drought out there. But yeah launch day they just can't bring it. IDK why they don't utilise smaller games more. I mean Zelda is a good title but I want to play one or two others - don't need to be spectacular.

Big issue for me is lack of small handheld like games. Bomberman seems like one but it's weird that's the digitsl lineup.

That was really lackluster apart from mario and zelda

Splatoon should be launch because I would have grabbed it just to get another game, same with Mario kart as it is now I'm likely skipping both

The pricing is higher then expected throughout every aspect of the system. 70 bucks for a pro controller? 80 for another set of switch joy cons?

I felt the momentum and great pr evaporating before my eyes as the conference went on. If zelda was not my favorite franchise and BOTH wasn't looking to be a great entry I would be waiting until atleast holiday and mario, maybe longer

Fair enough. Nintendo flopped with the Wii U so they lack good will, but

They didnt even show smash brothers and stuff like pokemon. It's a shame, they should know that teasers are better than nothing. Even if they arent gameplay

So?
This is a presentation meant to sell the system to a vast market. We should review this and the surrounding press releases.
In a few years the Switch will probably have a good amount of amazing games, but that doesn't matter now. Now is when we look at what they deemed adequate to put forth.
For me, and seemingly many others, the first year as outlined in the presentation was very weak.

I'm honestly just...completely shocked. Around 10pm I was telling my wife how excited I was for this presentation, had multiple sites loaded up, occasionally refreshing them just in case preorders went up, etc. This presentation took away EVERY BIT of my excitement. I closed out all the preorder pages, and just gave up on it. I cannot get over how much they turned me around from the hype I had after that initial reveal trailer.

In dismay.

I think too. I wonder if the (legit) pessimism will be the same approaching launch (or simply in a few days).

On my part, I'll wait for the first few days to see if it's bombing or not, before a purchase decision. They could pull a 3DS price cut if it doesn't sell well.

I don't think GameCube VC is coming
They would have mentioned it unless they are saving it for the streams

No mention of smash brothers is weird
If they don't port it then my god they have lost it

Bombs aside (SMTV, new NMH, Mario, Xeno2) for price and line up I'm not sure of the success of Switch. And I hate the Ninty conferences when they are like "vgs for dummies".

They were never gonna show Pokemon yet.

They still want to sell Sun and Moon to people who have 3DS and are buying Switch.

I'm honestly wondering if the mostly positive reaction to the Switch announcement trailer had a big influence on their pricing scheme/online plans and they suddenly had dollar signs where their brains should've been. Ya know, the exact fucking thing that kneecapped the 3DS's launch and required a massive price cut to correct.

The thing that bugs me is that the Wii U went barren for like the last year. And this conference is all they had to show in terms of software?

Really, and totally seriously, where are the games?

wii u software troubles/development applied over to switch development
---
the whole 3ds+ wii u development teams both supporting the new system is kind of glass half full view

considering that 3ds game development is much more expedient then hd game development
the same troubles and time for development that nintendo had for its wii u game makers
would also apply to those former 3ds game development makers

of course that means more in the pipeline but the production still goes at the same speed more or less

assuming of course that is what they are doing still

I doubt launch will be a good way to gauge the Switch's success because I get the feeling that with launching worldwide, coupled with Nintendo's habit of undershipping to avoid overstock, there might not be a ton of units out on day 1 anyway. The legs will be interesting going into the summer and of course holiday months. I have a hard time seeing how this thing will succeed where Wii U failed, but we'll see.

Yeah the most anti hype event I've seen since xb1 reveal.
