Microsoft announced Xbox Game Pass subscription service

But man...if i had not been buying a shitload of games ever since launch and had no sharing buddy, this would have been a sick deal. 120 bucks for a year and you get a boatload of games each month.

Or say you just go for a month and like a certain game, getting 20% off for that game is a great offer. Should be interesting to see how soon certain relatively new titles are added.

The fact that this wasn't held back for an E3 announcement is a pretty positive thing, right?

This could have been huge to reveal on stage, instead its just a post on Xbox Wire.

Dat Xbox confidence, lol.

Because people attention will be at maximum capacity in this E3 with Scorpio... announcing Scorpio + Xbox game pass + reveal new AAA exclusive that isn't Halo/Gears or Forza would have been huge.

Who cares really. Not everything has to wait until its E3 time and they want to test it now. Abit of a non discussion really.

What about the new games, not a fucking peep

Not sure what that has to do with my comment really.

This is similar to what Sony used to do when PS Plus first was announced. They should go back to that with the ability to buy titles at discounted rates. Good on MS, hopefully this will cause Sony to respond.

Pretty sure you'll get to keep the games in your library, but just won't have access to them once they're removed from the Game Pass library.

When trying to start a pre-loaded game, it says "Starting soon" or something along those lines, I'm pretty sure they'll add something to tell you that you don't own it or something?

Pretty amazing service, I'll probably dip in for a few months, see how it goes. Amazing news that it's not streaming, even though I have no problem with streaming, I do understand that not everyone has a great connection, so that's great news.

So if you're ass-deep in some 60-hour RPG and the game cycles out of the library, can you still keep playing without purchasing the game outright?

No.

Notice before purchase of DLC: If you purchase DLC for a game that is later removed from Xbox Game Pass, or you terminate your Xbox Game Pass subscription, you will need to purchase the game separately to continue using the DLC.

Damn, as an Xbox One Owner, I'm SO HAPPY that Sony is dominating this gen. Seriously. First BC, then 4K Blu Ray and now this... this is amazing!

how is this negative for the gamer? my backlog is so HUGE, I can wait. Can we stop the spinning please and just let microsoft have this, please?!

I didn't say it was a negative for the gamer. I meant for the publishers (but wasn't specific so that's on me)

Instead of giving us new games, they give us new options (BC, EAA, GWG, now this) to play old games... But it seems consumer friendly enough so there's that I guess.

I wonder if the discounts stack...

Like, if I'm an EA access member and I buy an EA game that's part of the pass...

Do I get the EA Access discount on top of the 20 Game Pass discount?

It's a conference that's going to great no matter what to some people and you know it. Fuck I'm a pessimistic cunt these days ha ha.

Great concept, Sony really needs to step up their game.

The only issue would be certain publishers not being on board with this, withholding their game from the Game Pass catalog.
These kinds of subscriptions do add up, though. I'd love for Sony to react to this by adding something, that is maybe not quite as extensive, but part of their base PS+ subscription.

Just signed up for the Alpha, only about 5 Xbox One games the rest are 360 ones.

Seem to be mostly games that we've been given free through GWG so far in the test. A few other ones though.

Bold prediction:

They will be sunseting Xbox Live gold in favor of this sub.

I've saying for a while now, they would change towards a sub that makes sense for Pc users to subscribe too, and they would never sub for playing online.

This makes total sense in their universal platform push.

I think Sony may be thinking of reacting to this. I got asked to complete a customer satisfaction survey this week and the main focus was around how they could improve PSNow and PS Plus.

I think it mentioned bringing PS1 and PS2 classics to PS Now.

EA doesn't participate in this. Neither does Ubisoft and a few others.

Great idea, but a lot rests on the games. Netflix makes a lot of original content to make it worthwhile, can't see MS doing the same.

What? Microsoft's answer to PS+ was Games with Gold, which is basically the same thing but you get to keep the Xbox 360 games for forever. This is more comparable to PSNow.

Most definitely! That was pretty much my point to a T. Making it so games are downloads and not streamed is a godsend, and so is providing a discount on actually buying a game if you want it. I'd love if this was how they handled demos of first party games going forward. I've wanted a discount on new digital games for quite some time now.

I don't think this is a answer to anything, just MS seeing a market and making a move. My point was Sony don't need to make a move as they already have comparable services.

So far, this sounds awesome. Need more details of course, but I may hook plug the xbone back up if it works out.
