NieR: Automata Shipments and Digital Sales Exceed One Million

I remember during the PS2 days how impressive a million units sales would sound, it was a huge deal back than, today it's like "OK at least it's not a big flop" but I'm sure they are expecting much more.
All games don't have a big development budget and a marketing plan that could sank a small company. For stuff like nioh and neir 1 million is absolutely a big deal to them

Totally deserved from what I can tell so far. Once I applied the FAR fix to the PC version it has been silky smooth and beautiful at the same time. Playing with the Xbox Elite controller at 1080p / 60 has been a great experience so far.

Really nice to see. I loved the first and second NieR games and I'm glad to finally see Yoko Taro's games gain some sort of greater penetration than they seemed capable of. All it took was a company that knows how to design video games to use his creative capabilities.

Now all Yoko and Co. need to learn is how to create side quests that don't give the impression that the game hates the player. At least there are no breakable packages in Automata and the writing's mostly solid for the side stuff..

For comparison: The last game in what's basically the same franchise, Drakengard 3, was developed on the budget of a happy meal and had only 5000 retail units printed for the EU.

A million is great for a Yoko Taro game and undoubtetly more than Square Enix expected

I had a 1070 and couldn't get the game running a solid 60fps on low settings, it's one of the worst ports I've ever played

What incredible hyperbole.

The framerate doesn't even have to do anything with the port.

Just started playing on PC over the weekend. Its rough around the edges for sure, but there's some magical quality to it that keeps me playing. The incredible ost is probably a lot to do with that. My mostly unused steam controller is finally redeemed with this game as well.

Probably only about half-way through the first route so far, so I have a long ways to go lol.

Fantastic. This game is right there alongside Bloodborne and The Last Guardian in my nominees for GOTG. It's been weeks and I can't stop thinking about it.

Even without FAR the port is honestly still better than most of Japan's efforts. The problems mostly consist of minor bugs (like the full screen resolution bug), and stupid oversights (the cutscene stutter).

On the flipside, they put actual work into a full PC version with arbitrary resolutions, rebindable keys, full support of MSAA, and performance which is on par with the PS4 version on equivalent hardware and scales very well on more powerful machines.

An official patch fixing those bugs should be coming soon, but FAR fixes them so it is really no big deal.

i bought nier on day one so i didnt have a pleasant experience with it till the far fix came out about 3-4 days later. inconsistent frame rate. mouse cursor visible and unmovable on the middle of the screen (when i used my x360 controller). camera, etc options were reversed back to default after i exited and loaded the game every time. and more. not minor. i don't think the pc port was worth the $70 CAD price i paid for.

So, best selling Platinum game ever? It took Bayonetta a year to get to a million. How much did Rising sell?

I did my part and it was well worth it. Really loving the game and I'm only early on in my second play through. Congrats Yoko Taro, Platinum and Square Enix for taking the risk and creating something truly special!

Same, can't wait to see the rest. Great news.

Great game, easily the best game I have played this year so far and one of the best games I have ever played. Please gimme some dlc... please..

Ah, didnt realize it was a game reference. Not clicking that. Haven't played it yet. Looking forward to it, but gotta finish Zelda, and probably (start and finish) Horizon first. I will likely buy it when it goes on sale, but im not waiting for a sale, I am waiting until a time when I would play it.

A game I had no interest in before the review thread ended up being my GOTY. Amazing game, deserves every sale it gets.

I had a 1070 and couldn't get the game running a solid 60fps on low settings, it's one of the worst ports I've ever played, my first steam refund. The mods that have been released since sound like they would help my situation a lot, I'll probably grab the game again sometime soon. With the PC version being really successful, I really hope they patch it, a Platinum needs to be played in 60fps
Definitely something wrong on your end because I have a 1070 as well and some old intel 3ghz processor and I ran the game at 60fps at 1080p + max settings with zero issues without the mod.

Anyway, Automata is one of the best games I've ever played and I'm super glad it's selling well. I bought a new PS3 just to play the original Nier after finishing it.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?
MGSR did 3.5 million iirc

I could see Nier Automata getting to these numbers after a few years, a couple of price drops and the many sales it will be a part of. Its already at a million in one month and the word of mouth is nothing but incredible. I think 2 million life time sales is a given and I could even see something like 2.5 to 3 million.

Pre-ordered through Steam and got another friend to buy a copy on PS4 yesterday. Also started replaying immediately after finishing Route A recently. Glad I contributed to this.

I was doing 1440p/60 on a 1070 within minutes of the game coming out. Not sure what the problem with your setup was

Fun Steam fact: NieR Automata has likely made Square Enix more revenue in its first 2 weeks than any Final Fantasy game's (except 14 because MMO) lifetime sales did.

Ay bros. Fuck yea.

Told ya they'd get the press releases out in a fuckin hurry.

:O

Amazing given the games it was released between and with little marketing budget.
