Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Damn that is rough

Was hoping for $399 so things would be a little more competitive. $499 I'm not sure how well it will do.

If that is the price aren't people going to question the whole idea making the SCORPIO, just like they did the PS PRO? Why are either of them needed for either company?

C'mon guys no need to die on the hill for MS. Let's just patiently wait for the reveal.

Fuck it, I'm in team 399

This is odd. Either Geoff is being fed some (convincing) incorrect information, or those weird teases for $399 were actually a coincidence all along. I don't know if Geoff would let his credibility take a hit just to make MS look good on stage, but I guess that's possible too.

MS gonna come out and be like "You can take the Scorpio home for the low, low price of $499", but then the screen will freeze, and a voiceover will correct him and say that it's actually $399.

If course it's 499. This isn't for the average Joe shmo, but for those who want a "premium" console. If someone cares about native 4k on console, they will buy a Scorpio. MS knows that it will be a niche product.

Has to be an elaborate troll with Geoff in conjunction with MS. I simply cannot believe that MS would be that tone-deaf to launch at such a high price.

I'm expecting $399

Good thing is the turnaround for this is literally a few hours.

I spent $500 on my Xbox One at launch only for that price to plummet within a year. That left a bad taste in my mouth. Anything above $400 is going to give me pause but I suppose it will all depend on what Microsoft has to show me today to justify that price tag.

Yeah, that would have been my guess. If true, good luck with that. Gonna have to have a stellar line up of exclusives for me to even think about it.

I feel like this was the most expected price point, no? I know people were hoping for $399, but at least its not five-hundred and ninety-nine dollars!

I was likely not getting one anyways, even at $399, unless they really kill it on the games front. At $499, my chances of getting it are nearly zero if all their games continue to come to the original Xbox One.

i was expecting $500-700.

To see people saying DOA at 499 confuses me.

This is a high end console with state of the art technology. If this thing costs 499 it`s a steal.

Wildcard berths that can't beat teams without a winning record should have homefield advantage

I mean, I get it, but wages have been stagnant that entire time, haven't they? Inflation changes but if wages haven't, that means extra money to spend hasn't.

I still don't believe it and won't until Microsoft says it. It makes absolutely no sense. This has the makings of a "We listened to the fans!!!" setup.

So dead on arrival I guess. Except they announce some exclusive software that makes it worth today. But 500 quids just to play the games I can also play on the PS4 with higher res? No thanks.

I'm ready to be wrong, but I slightly (very slightly) think this is a ruse.

It could be to make people believe they are getting a sweet deal for $399 because it was "leaked" at being $499.

EDIT: Excellent, I was wrong!

That's a lot more than I thought it would be. Good luck to them, but considering how powerful it is, I guess it should be expected.

There were a couple sales but nothing widespread.

I thought for sure Sony would drop the Pro to $349 and add bundled games for a counter to Scorpio but they may not even need to do that if $499 is the price.

I bet Sony would still do a $349 Pro with pack-in for the Holiday season.

Good. This makes it more likely that nextgen (PS5/Xbox Two) will also be above 399, which could mean more room for better specs, for example higher frequencies with better cooling. They can still lower the price at a later point.

doesn't matter either way they're selling at a loss

Damn, that reminds me of the PS3. Didn't that thing cost $1000 a piece to manufacturer at launch? I understand packing in a lot of tech and wanting to get consumers to buy their product, but I would personally want to always be able to profit similar to Nintendo if I were in their shoes. They're really gonna have to pump out first party after first party titles to make up for it. Luckily Scorpio won't do anywhere near as good as the base model.
