The Scorpio ain't anything special either. It's just brute force. But still the same Xbox One games and developers won't push the juice to the limits. They were very clear on that, this not a mere Pro.

I never understand Neogaf, you spend this much on headphones and a pair of jeans, but when it's for a 6 teraflop games console, with 10gb ram and a 4k blu-ray drive, the sky has fallen in.
Given that this is a higher tier xbox to compliment the current system (which is getting a $50 cut at E3), I don't understand how anybody thought this would be priced hyper aggressively.
And which markets are those?
Is 499 really fucking worth 4K graphics on your TV? Seriously? And it'll be limited to Xbox One games. PC gamers have no reason at all to jump ship.
The thing is, we're talking about one of the most respected journalist here. If he knew the real price, he would say/leak shit. The fact that hes allowing himself to "leak" this is shady as fuck. The difference being that the whole "Doritos Pope" debacle was an unintended consequence of the situation. Beyond the meme-worthy resolution of the affair, the marketing deal couldn't have been any different from any other marketing deal in existence.
Now, if Keighley has willingly entered a deal by which he claims something he knows isn't true just so Microsoft can have a big "gotcha!" moment on stage... Man, that's a shitty way to dynamite your credibility. Next time he has some juicy insider info nobody will believe him.
So, yeah. I don't think this is a PR stunt, especially considering Microsoft has stated in the past that they are aiming for a "premium product". That, or Keighley is a souless mercenary who would sell his credibility in a heartbeat... which I don't think he is.
Thought being 499 was most logical guess based on specs? Where did this 399 idea come from?
With the current exchange rate and VAT, the price could be between 530 and 550 euro.
DOA.
Is a OC PS4 Pro one year later... $399 is the most logical price.
700 people thinking this is a troll. Hope they do a bundle for $499
Nice try Geoff, how much MS pay you to say that for shocking news micdrop omg $399?
Triple the power, double the priceLOL.
It will be 399. It has to be.
Anything higher is suicide. They are already selling the XB1 BUNDLED WITH A GAME for 250.
The Scorpio hardware doesnt sound that expensive unless they are gonna announce a surprise hardware change here

Wasn't the PS3 499 or something on release? It like completely bombed.
Did he hurt your favorite piece of plastic? Relax buddyGeoff is cunt trying to kill the hype
I recall a lot of people covering E3 in 2013 were certain PS4 would be $499 24 hours before it was surprisingly announced at $399. The euphoria over that price was significant. Curious if MS is trying to replicate that euphoria today or are prepping people so they aren't disappointed.
For the question: What does Keighley gain : $$$To those thinking this is staged:
What does Keighley have to gain by doing this assuming it's not some MS ploy?
If it is an MS ploy... why? Why rile everyone up when they can just announce $399 at their conference and get the same amount of cheers?
So, let me get this straight...
people in here actually think that
- 10% more CPU Power
- 50% more GPU Power
- 50% more RAM
- 50% more Bandwidth
- UHD Blu-ray instead of a regular Drive
will come at no extra cost whatsoever?
I think it's a fair price.
Scorpio is well positioned to steal some marketshare from Sony.
"I call it a premium console because I want people to be clear that the customer we're building that for is the premium gaming customer," Spencer said. "The person who buys the majority of the games, the person who's playing the most games, spending the most hours, spending the most dollars. It's like our Elite controller. I call that a premium controller."
"I'm not trying to scare anybody on the price. We're going to come out on a price that we think is fair for the product that we build and the customers will tell us as they always do. I call it premium because I don't want people to get confused that somehow Scorpio is the thing that is going to take over the Xbox line."

I'm saying we're tier 1 xDIf it's $499 US not a fucking chance, that means after taxes you're going to be paying well over $800 Canadian, that's not "buying a console" money.
