Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

That's why I said it could change, it's not official until it is announced. But based on what I've heard since I tweeted, they are rolling ahead with $499. Any price change would be very last minute, and no way, they trim $100 off.

Honestly given the tech in there I understand the $499. But open question on if the games/experience will justify that pricetag, we will see today.

I've also heard final name is in the Twitter poll I put up.

Pretty sure Phil, Penello, Mayor Nelson and the resto of the Xbox guys are closely monitoring this thread, 64 pages more than 3180 posts in threee hours. Backpedalling incoming...

If this was a "leak" to enhance $399 reaction, would have made more sense to me to leak $499 much earlier and then let people believe they listened to gamers and made it $399.

This is why it's a rumor folks, it's not official yet. There's no back pedaling, lol.

Of course it's a rumour as long as it's not official. Holy shit the anger in this thread.

People are losing their minds.

All of this feels really off to me. The only reason I feel this isn't a marketing stunt is that that would be really out of character for Geoff and I don't think he would do something like that. If it turns out to be a marketing stunt with it being $399 in the end I'll lose considerable respect for Geoff, but as it is I'll take him at his word and be really confused by why this would be leaked in such a way in the first place.

It wouldn't surprise me if Microsoft put $499 in rehearsal to avoid leaks like last year, but some of you need to calm down. Legal action lmao

Sony will come out tomorrow and say "Two great consoles, great games, at affordable prices". And make MS look silly again. What happened to Xbox being the ones to show how it's done lol?

So I guess this is a purposefully controlled leak by MS then.

Say the price is $499, state it's from rehearsal, and then say let's talk about this rumor on my E3 show.

Well ok then.

Why is Geoff now saying "scorpio price rumours" when he was so confident about the price in his first tweet?

I don't know what to believe :O

Geoff doesn't work for MS, or have strong personal feelings of attachment for them like you do.

He doesn't work for Ms but works with them, and many other publishers.

This isn't about personal feelings, it's about profissional credibility. If this is actually a leak he put a lot to lose. (In my opinion of course, I can't tell how every company will react)

They already justified the price by having a 1.8TF stronger gpu, 4 more gigs of ram, a UHD drive, and a faster hard drive.

For a potential $150 dollar upgrade if Sony slashes the Pro price. A $50 off on the Slim would also put pro at just a 150$ upgrade on top of that.

So, no Ms will have to do a lot more than just show some specs to make that price justifiable.

Because as long is not official it will always be rumor/ expeculation.

Nah, it's him trying to save face or whatever little trust he has left if anything lol

You all are cracking me up btw acting as if true on the price point that it wasn't an unprofessional move by him having overheard it during rehearsals.

The price is fine with me as I expected that or more but stop trying to excuse that.

Seems like a work. I doubt Geoff would leak anything cosidering his professional credibility would be ruined. It really feels like a swerve to make the $399 price even more appealing.

Doing actual reporting doesn't ruin your credibility, except with fanboys. Actually leaking the price now is doing MS a favor so people are prepared for it when it comes during the conference.

So, Keighley got told a piece of information, and he passed it on, so if he's wrong, he's a marketing shill and if he's right he should be sued because he's spoiling the surprise?

We're rapidly approaching a meltdown along the lines of "Square just shot themselves in the foot" or "The age of Sony is done!" This is getting embarrassing.
