Looking back Yokai Watch 2 finished 1430 points on COMG and opened at 1.3 million.
I think Splatoon 2 pre-orders are currently still ahead of YW2 preorders comg aligned. Both have a July launch. I'm really questioning if Nintendo would be able to ship enough copies of Splatoon 2 for launch and ensure hardware shipments is able to meet demand for the game. If Switch continues to be difficult to find after the launch of Splatoon 2 it could potentially really hurt the sales both of the Switch and Splatoon 2 at least during the initial 6 months of the game being on the market. Basically anything below 70K baseline for the Switch after Splatoon 2 launch is going to be insufficient I think.

I agree with you but on the other hand I feel that the fighting genre never had a true innovation for years so it kind of declined to irrelevence. It was a majorly popular genre years ago and I have a feeling that a good product could reigite the genre. Not saying rhat that is necesarily ARMS but it could go both ways.

For Honor is the second best selling game of 2017 so far, so that's definitely true.

Mind, that one in particular is a hard pitch for Japan.

Code Vein confirmed platforms finally, light the Oregano signal.

For those not following along, it's PC/XB1/PS4.

Japan will be getting Mario + Rabbids in 2018 apparently, published by Nintendo.

Interesting to see a Mario game being released in the west first. I definitely don't see it selling 100k+ FW, but 100-200k LT isn't out of the question.

Edit: Dammit.

Edit 2: Monster Hunter World confirmed for PS4, early 2018.

Maybe the reason that World hasn't shown up in Japanese copyrights is because its not even launching in Japan any time soon. That was a very weird take on MH.

Re: Monster Hunter- I wasn't overwhelmed by what I saw and I'm not observing any insane reactions from the PS4 crowd. I think its going to struggle to stand out in the West.

Boom there it is. Doesn't look overly westernised or like a spin off.

Its hard to say from a trailer but I noticed what looked like some significant changes. If its by main team I'm sure it will play well. I just don't know if it is going to wow enough to stand out in the PS4/X1 world.

Monster Hunter World is a console spin-off of the main series.

It will sell appropriately to that context. In other words, it probably won't make major waves in Japan.

Yeah, those reactions in the thread are weird. Have those people played Monster Hunter?

They showed too little of the actual core of MH, the combat, which is never a good sign.

The rest of the trailer was glowing-points-of-interest, QTEs, a stealth part(?), and monsters.

The graphics are a great improvement over the 3DS but is this really going to stand out in the west?

So this might finally prove that even post-explosion, MH is still more popular on handhelds. There will be no need to point to the PS2 and Wii games any longer.

This is clearly aimed at the West, it has potential to sell more there if the gameplay isn't shit.

I don't think its looks like anything like what was expected. Its only slightly more radical than the stuff MH4 introduced.

Actually the trailer reminded me a lot of that initial teaser, not sure if that's a good thing considering its less than a year away.

I fear it will get lost in the crowd unless the gameplay is really great.

Weird though because, according to the 4chan rumor, the PS4/XB1/PC game was supposed to be called Monster Hunter 5. Monster Hunter World seems more like a spinoff both in name and gameplay.

Sure but the test was can Monster Hunter be bigger if released on the PS4/Xbox One as a AAA title than by staying on handhelds? My prediction is that no, it can't. And there will be no need for Capcom to spend more money if it's to sell less worldwide.

It doesn't mean that it doesn't make sense to also release on PS4/XBO/PC, but excluding the Switch is clearly so that it doesn't hold the game back from a technical point of view. I think they will realize it was for nothing and releasing it on Switch as well, even if it would have meant less impressive graphics on the more powerful systems, was the most logical move.

Yeah, I can see it doing on par with the Wii MH games in the west. Nothing really looks -that- drastically different enough to change the perception from those it seems, going by that thread's reactions.

But that's clearly calculated on Capcom's part to keep the current audience (both western and JP MH fans). We'll see if they hit the right balance when the time comes I guess, or if they should've gambled and just gone all out with a different style.

So apparently MH World isn't even announced for Japan?
Looked like a weird mix of trying to appeal to the west all while not going far enough.
