Media Create Sales: Week 22, 2017 (May 29 - Jun 04)

It doesn't look like a spin off at all. PR says it's the next game in the franchise. I guess they didn't want to name it MH5 in order to not confuse first comers to the franchise. This is basically MH5 in all except the name.

Also, seriously people believe this will not be released in Japan?

Is not MH5.

FF7 never had a problem with newcomers because of the 7.

It's a cute little spin off that will certainly not sell much better than the Switch's MHs, both in JP and outside of it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add worldwide sales to the 3DS titles. So another million (less?).

So assuming again a high guess of 1.5 mil for Japan, they would need to see an additional 3.5 million-ish outside of Japan. Likely?

1,5 mil for MH on console in Japan is wildly optimistic I feel.

It was and was not. They did not get the title of Mon Hun PS4 correct. We also don't know if Sony actually paid Capcom.

Ah I just found the rumour again. I didn't realise it was supposed to be called MH5. It all seems pretty close to me. I'm not invested in anything Monster Hunter but it has been interesting watching this thread and the debates about that rumour in particular. Especially with it seeming pretty close to what we know now.

Not sure if MH World will be a success for Capcom. They are trying to catch the western interest, but risk to disappoint western and Japan gamers both with this approach.

Although I don't think this will sell that well in Japan I'm personally pretty excited.

The fact that main team is behind this project is also reassuring.

Can't wait to play 4k MH on my Xbox One X!

Thats good to know. I think this game will be pretty amazing but I don't think its smart business by Capcom.

but they just expect it to sell 2 million though, it can be done ww with good marketing

If it's the main team I'm pretty confident this will be good then. Why they showed no combat I dont get though. But my worries are mostly eased.

I totally can. FF6 sold over 2 million copies in Japan, while the western version didn't crack a million. The situation is quite similar if we assume World equals to MH5 (which it doesn't).

I wasn't talking about sales at all. I talked about newcomers to the franchise and you mentioned FF7. FF is a franchise that it's heavy story based but it is know that each entry is tottaly unique. MH from the other hand is not story based but the gameplay core is the same since the first game. Capcom seems to be changing this with this new entry and since they want to expand the audience they dropped the number. At least that's my opinion and the PR seems to supporting it (plus the fact that the main team is working on this). I am sure we will get more info about the game soon, so let's leave it to Capcom to explain it better.

Monster Hunter: World is a Q1 2018 worldwide release (probably March) and Capcom expect it to sell 2 million units.

Where did you find that. Confusing if true. This looks very expensive to make but they plan to only sell half as many copies as their PSP/3DS titles.

I agree. But I though over estimating was better for the point I was trying to make about how strong the Western sales will need to be.

MH:W Won't hit 1.5 million in Japan. It is simply crazy lol.

And is it me, or that no one seems like reacting when the MH:W is announced there on the conference? Don't anyone care for MH hiks?T_T

I'm not optimistic on MHW's prospects inside or outside Japan. The game didn't look very good imo. I think 250k-350k japan ltd based on the little we've seen so far.

It wasn't just MH. Gaf complained about the sullen crowd for the whole conference.

Capcom hasn't given a forecast for MHW, the 2m one was for Marvel and Resident Evil 7.

You are right, I was totally convinced that Capcom had forecasted 2 million units for the unannounced major title. But that is not the case, sorry for the misinformation.

I didn't like much of what they showed...but they also didn't show very much. Drop in/drop out is smart at least.

The other part of that now confirmed rumor was that this game was a real shit show and had Capcom scared.
