Cosby trial declared "mistrial"

Is it at all appropriate for the prosecutor to shoot low on something like this ?

Not saying he doesn't deserve the worst but if they can get him on some relatively minor stuff I feel like one or two years in prison would be enough to kill him.

I am glad the prosecutors took the case. Something like this (a rape that was several years ago with a celebrity) is always hard to win.

Like almost everyone else I do wish he was convicted. Not just because he deserves it, but because we have a rape problem in this country and I would hope that more high profile cases like this one could maybe help prevent some in the future (probably just wishful thinking on my part).

You guys know they need proof beyond a reasonable doubt right? They cant just convict even though its very likely hes guilty.

Usually happens when juries take a long time to deliberate, right?

I hope they re-do the trial. Depends on the witness wanting to do it all again

Technically that's a hard case to try. Gotta imagine there's hardly any actual witnesses to what happened, and there's zero DNA evidence. She waited to come forward as well which, while completely understandable, makes it even easier for the defense to poke holes in the story.

Plus she had a working relationship with him as well, which left her even more open to shitty claims such as "Durrr, if he raped you why did you still let him be your boss? NOT SOMETHING A RAPE VICTIM WOULD DO DURRRR" and that kinda logic just lodges itself in the mind of idiot jurors as well.

Sad result but not surprising at all.

Pretty much my understanding as well. Case is just too old at this point.

I don't think DNA evidence would have made a difference at all. The issue wasn't really whether they had physical contact, the defense pretty much conceded that point. The entire case revolved around the credibility of the victim. The defense (apparently, as they 'won' with a mistrial) did a good job of undermining it by focusing on her repeated calls and other contact with Cosby, as well as a few other (minor, IMO) inconsistencies in her story.

wtf. i haven't been paying attention to the trial. weren't there dozens and dozens of people who came forward?

The jury heard the testimony of one other woman who alleged to have been raped by Cosby but didn't hear anything else.

how the fuck

Thats really sad

So I understand, being from the same general area as where the allegations took place, why they had to bring a jury in from out of the area. That also adds another layer to the whole proceedings.

With Cosby's Temple ties, etc , I could see it being incredibly difficult to find an impartial jury from the greater Philadelphia area.

Steele (who is seemingly quite aggressive and not shy of high profile cases) already said he's going to retry. I imagine round 2 will also feature a jury from elsewhere.

Well.

If The People vs O.J Simpson taught me anything, is that sometimes a mistrial is better because otherwise the criminal gets away with it.

No one should be surprised at all really. It's not like OJ where they had his damn DNA with physical evidence both at the crime scene and his house.

All of the evidence (that i read about at least) seemed circumstantial. Not enough to nail him. Either way he's a piece of shit.

From what I've seen there isn't any hard evidence against him, just he said she said. If the prosecution can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt he is guilty then they shouldn't convict him.
