For me, it was a pre-order for Suikoden II on PS1.

I distinctly remember seeing Suikoden II at a Software Etc. and I put it back cause I didn't have the cash.

Thankfully I was able to acquire it a few years later for $50.

Worst setup, IMO, was KB Toys. I hated looking over the counter like I'm glossing over packs of cigarettes.

god i loved this era
me & my childhood friend would practice running around the block in case we won nickelodeon's run for fun thing where you could keep whatever you could grab in a few minutes, i was determined to get all the slips

Awe man I miss this. Am I crazy or did some Genesis games come with a fruit roll up inside?

you're not crazy, that happened!

that's really cool to see

The worst part of this set up was the fact that after checking out, you needed to go to a small warehouse with a window/counter facing out, and wait for them to fetch it. Sometimes this took a while.

Last game I remember buying via this method was Harvest Moon for the SNES.

see i didn't mind that weird booth, one time i was getting a master system game as kid and the dude gave me the first issue of gamepro.

Man, people are desperate. I hate how Nintendo is blind to demand.

We don't know that - yet.

Desperation at this point comes from our assumptions, which in turn are based on what happened with the NES classic. Nintendo have already said demand for that device was unprecedented and that they were producing more of the SNES as a result.

They MIGHT stuff this up again and if you estimate that they will (using the "yesterday's weather" theory), you can absolutely improve your chances by putting in early leg work and making a plan.

Turn that frustration into action and you'll be ok :)

I let a coworker borrow my copy and the strategy guide. He ended up leaving the job (or I did, I can't remember well) and I never got it back. Lo and behold 4-5 years later I see how much it's going for on Ebay and kicked myself.

More on topic, if I can get a JP pre-order I'll either cancel my UK version or sell it to someone in the US at MSRP (I'll eat the shipping cost).

I've checked amazon, BB and EBGames at least 50 times in two days for this to appear (CDN sites)... I don't think I'll make it to Sept. at this rate...

I just remember stuff coming out on a conveyor belt. I just tried to name the most obscure-ass defunct store I could think of.
You had to fill out the most ghetto form with the right number for the product before you got to get to the conveyor belt.

Even as a kid in the 80s I knew that was some busted ass shit.

There is a BIG question (s) to all of this that I think nobody has brought up:

Firstly I assume the top-loader of the console will be made redundant..so you wouldn't be able to play any cartridges on this system, 21 games is all good, but there is only so much mileage you can get out of it...

Why on earth did they leave out the likes of Super Streetfighter 2, Donkey Kong 2-3, Turtles in Time (which is probably the GREATEST Turtles game there has ever been produced on a home-console) Actraiser, Pilot Wings, Super Tennis, Axelay, instead of putting in the likes of Earth Bound, Final Fantasy, etc...

Would it be easy to "hack" more games in? Another game that comes to mind is Cybernator...

* When is there a new re-stock for the UK customers?

Have you seen the size of this thing? Of course it can't take cartridges.

But it's strange that Nintendo doesn't take the opportunity to sell more games via download on these things, VC style. Definitely money left on the table. But given how they intentionally limit the supply of these mini consoles, spectacularly failing to meet the demand, I guess making money simply isn't their main goal here (that seems to be to generate hype and awareness of the Nintendo brand).

On a completely random note, I've been a member for 7 years and I'm still a junior.

What post count do I gotta hit? :(

You all can safely call it quits for the day, close your browsers and just relax, chances of this going up today are next to 0%

Get a good night sleep, see you all tomorrow!

I don't recall all the details, but they're mostly nit picky stuff.

I actually got two NES Classics and sold them because they were European version and I wanted the US box... kinda regret not keeping one now.

Managed to pre-orders the SNES Classic today (Euro version is superior this time). This I'll probably keep, as I'm more relaxed financially now.

I never owned a SNES, it kinda makes this bittersweet... Finally owning one will be sweet, but I don't have nostalgia for these games like I did with the NES.
The only thing I hated was having to play in Pixel Perfect mode because the shimmer of the bricks in Zelda 2 dungeons was giving me a headache in 4:3 mode.

I first saw Star Fox 2 on something like that at a Toys R Us. For a couple years after that I couldn't wait for it to come out, then I kind of forgot about it until the internet reminded me about it in college.

They also had FX Fighter running around the same time, too. Man, who knows what kind of treasure trove those tapes might have in terms of projects that were being considered for release at the time.
