Any impressions on the physics of this game? Ideally it would feel like Zero Mission or an improvement on the feel of that game.

I resent that.

Their first Lords of Shadow was better than GoW3 as far as I'm concerned. It was also the best 3D Castlevania ever made and also the best selling game in franchise history.

The sequels though? Yeah, those were not as good.

I dunno, that game is kinda weird to me. I was crazy hyped for it after accepting that it wouldn't feel like a Castlevania game, but once I rented it I found it so lifeless and boring. It's like they tried to mix a bunch of things they found cool and nothing sticked, the game excelled at nothing but presentation. Even the music sucked.

Then years later I tried Lament of Innocence and surprisingly had a blast. The game was kinda simple, but still very fun and feels like an accurate translation of the Igavania formula to 3D... Which in the end made me dislike LoS even more lol.

Eh, I only enjoyed the Castle portions of that game. Mirror of Fate was decent at times, but I think LoS 2 was my favorite, even though it wasn't great at times. It did, however, have FANTASTIC boss battles, even surpassing those of the mighty Bayonetta 2 that year.

I really hope Nintendo aren't going all in with MS and making Prime 4 with them as well though.

Not sure if this is what you are asking, but people are saying that Samus feels awesome to control. "Heavy", but very fast and fluid.

I feel like such an asshole that I went all in for switch and sold my 3DSXL with my games figuring the switch would get these kinds of titles.

Ugh ...between this and the new Pokémon game I might have to buy it back!

I remember not liking Lords of Shadow for the first two hours, but stuck with it anyway. Excellent game with some really incredible visual design and atmosphere.

I only did not like the invisible walls and SotC segments but otherwise thought it was a good game. I also really liked Mirror of Fate (HD) due to the character designs, level design and the generations spanning story but apparently the entire internet is now collectively shittng on it (despite the 70+ Metacritic rating it once got).

GameExplain has posted on a hands on video with their impressions. (No few gameplay footage though)

They seem to love the 3D implementation as well as the feel of the controls.

Matt Peckham of TIME also posted some glowing impressions of 20 minutes with the game, including some (mostly rehashed) background on how the game came to be.

Metroid: Samus Returns Is Exactly the Metroid the 3DS Needs

Excitement levels growing...

Yeah, really like GameXplain. In the last couple of years, they're pretty much the only gaming channel I've been subbed to.

I was rewatching the trailer on 3DS and just realized: This is totally the Queen Metroid's back plating.

I'm not sure if that's because it's subtle or because I'm thick as a brick.

Do any Dutch retailers or webshops already have the amiibo up for pre order? I don't mind if i miss the special edtion but fuck i need those amiibo.

So I was watching a youtube video earlier about the Metroid series, and a guy mentioned Sakamoto having a very cringe worthy response to Other M's poor reception. I looked it up and... is this real?

Sakamoto said:
”It is quite obvious why Other M did not succeed when compared to other Nintendo games; it features a female main character," says Sakamoto, ”Mario, Link, Kirby. Those are all male Nintendo characters that never fail to generate good sales."
”It's not just about the sales either," adds Sakamoto, ”The game as a whole was received fairly poorly compared to other hit Nintendo titles. I personally wrote the story for the game so I know it can't be that. I mean, I created a strong, female character that people just could not accept. I apologize if gamers feel like they were emasculated playing the game, but that shouldn't affect your judgment of everything else."

When asked about the success of the Metroid Prime series compared to Other M, Sakamoto replied, ”Most people who play that game are completely unaware that the main character is a female. This is why it avoided what hurt Other M the most. I believe that if Other M had disguised Samus's gender like in Metroid Prime, Other M would have surpassed the entire Metroid series."
”Perhaps for the next Metroid game, we should have Adam Malkovich become the lead character. I can't wait to write his story," says Sakamoto.

My mind is blown. Was this really his response? Not fake? This was from 2013 so.... I hope he's chilled off since and realize this thinking that Other M received blowback because Samus is a girl is simply ridiculous. Forget the Tomb Raiders, FFXIII trilogy, and the recent Horizon: Zero Dawn, all with a female lead, all criticized for different things, but all which sold and was received way better than Other M. Gender wasn't the factor.

The truth is, the game he made betrayed the imaginations of his player base of the kind of person Samus was. The Metroid Prime games have had the biggest influence on that, being some of the series best sellers and having the players assume her role as a mute protaganist for those games, but even the classic games and Fusion, despite the short monologue bits, did little to encroach on what many perceived Samus to be. It's sad that he ignored the influence Prime has had, and went ahead with expanding on some Manga story few have ever read. The game-play wasn't very Metroid like either. And where was the music?

Geez, now I'm thinking about Other M again. Grr. Sakamoto is producing Metroid: Samus Returns. Game looks fun, but I'm still not feeling very good about it. It's a game I want to get excited for, but I hate what Sakamoto has done with the character, and seeing Smash 4 taking influence from Other M (huge boobs, mole, Varia suit design), just seeing the small things carry over feel disheartening, and have me worried about Prime 4 and this doing the same, when Retro had given us the best, most attractive, version of the character in a series of great games. Prime only got a stage and some trophies in Smash Brawl. Boo!

Oh well, I need to relax. Samus Returns is using a new Varia design, which looks cool enough, and the game looks like it could turn out to be real fun. Hope the movement and physics feel good. Monsters don't look as cool as Prime's mons did, but they're serviceable. The bad Other M taste is still in my buds. Hoping Samus Returns can relieve some of that, but... yeah, just not feeling it right now. Currently replaying the Prime trilogy though!

More excited to learn more about Prime 4.... but Retro isn't working on it. :(

The interview is sourced to P4RGaming which was a video game focused satiric website. Basically The Onion, except video games.

The source of the quotes in the link you posted is P4RGaming, which is a defunct parody website. Think like the Onion. Those quotes aren't real.

^ Thank You!

My goodness, it did sound too stupid to be real, but I couldn't find much discussion on it (perhaps because it was fake).

When did these amiibo go up for pre-order and will there be another shot to grab them?

I don't mind getting the 2-pack. It is still at Walmart's site but I'd rather get them from Best Buy.

Not sure if/when there will be another shot at them, but the 2-pack was available like a day after announcement from Best Buy. I was checking every hour until it came up. The amiibos were available before the game was iirc.

Tanabe getting the Sakomoto treatment.

oversees three great games, makes one fuck up (not even as bad as Other M) and people get overly cautious towards him.

I can't believe the "Other M was the dead of Metroid" meme is still around.

I wasn't even a bad Metroid game, it just didn't lived up to expectations.

And it was also attacked for being a Wii game by Team Ninja. That made heavy use of the wiimote.

Same with Federation Force, never played it, but for what I have heard from people who actually played it, it is quite fun.
