Kart race is hype! On that sharp hairpin, I hit the brakes at the marker of that white box on the side of the track and heave it to 4th, and can get back on the throttle about half way in. Screw trying to hit the apex in favor of keeping minimum speed up. Hopefully can exit at the top of 4th. Got into the high 43s after a ton of messing around. Races are a lot of fun (around people behaving) and the front can stay in a tight cluster with the draft to keep swapping positions.

That Tokyo expressway outer loop/wangan thingie is NOT designed with Gr1 cars in mind, my god. Narrow, blind corners, easy to spin out, no runoff area anywhere. Avoiding contact with other players is essentially impossible unless you're leading. In real life that would never be okayed for safety purposes for prototypes. Gr3 would be pinball with the walls but probably more fun. Going to time trial that track a lot in the retail version... feels like it would be a good benchmark track with the super high speed, lots of sweeping corners, hard braking zones and the sloooow slow hairpin at the end.

I suck at Gr4 Interlagos because the one Gr4 car I have in my garage is a dog.

I'm avoiding that Tokyo expressway like the plague for now.

My SR plummeted down to E yesterday having been B the day before because of everyone being c*nts the shitty expressway and oval circuits.

Just sticking to interlagos and the kart race today.

it cannot be stressed enough how good the menu experience (ui + music) is.

remember seeing a video where Kaz sat down with his music/composers and he started playing the piano and stuff. The man's multi talented. The menu music and overall UI experience is superb. Hope they fix the lettering in the UI. It's a little too jittery when the lettering are scrolled from right to left and the letters on UI themselves don't feel too sharp.

Watched some riffraff ram into each other online.

I'm too much of a sportsman and too civilized to involve myself with such ilk!

Also I'm in last place, so couldn't catch up if I wanted.

Anyway game is really fun. Played the circuit breakdown of Dragontail and its eye opening how much faster I could and should be going. Really satisfying too.

*Notices that the track training mode gave him quite some money*

*runs to the Honda dealership*

*picks a NSX*

"Purchasing not available in this version of the game"

Never been as hyped to buy a car. The presentation for it is SO nice. But nope, why did PD have to do us like that heh

Hm, something cute and dainty? A 4C perhaps? Sounds like a plan. At least I'll no longer feel eventually forced to use a GT-R like in the beta. All other cars were absolute junk in comparison. Full fields of 16 GT-Rs. Every Gr4 race. Every day. Every track. Always.

One balance thing that apparently wasn't fixed is that the Gr3 GTi convertible concept is king in oval trim. Tiny wheelbase and whatnot. If we were on Indy or Daytona like GT5-6 it wouldn't be an issue. Am I a bad person if I enjoyed the BB Raceway?

Unrelated, but I'm bummed that there clearly will never be any open wheel in this game. PD is going all in on the GrX Vision GT cars turned into Gr1 models with crazy enhancements. It's nice they have real world LMP1s there (including the LeMans lap record holder) but those look downright ugly compared to the rest of the class. Can't say there's not a lot of variety, at least! The "new" Red Bull murder car seems to be that SRT thing. Reading the text for it, it requires a 7 month physical training program to withstand the lateral Gs, lol, and the driver wears a pneumatic G suit. The McLaren quazi-motorcycle from 6-4 was fun, too.

PD track record (pardon the pun) is pretty lame on that front. 4 years and offering a game with fewer tracks, fewer features and fewer cars than the comp is pretty poor.

In the PS and PS2 days, they were the best, since the PS3 they seem behind the times. Mind you the Car models are the best and the HDR support is the best I've seen on my LG TV too

Sure they are far from perfect and if they had built it off GT6 then it's not so great but if they did start from the ground up, scrapping everything that came before, then 4 years is pretty standard development time for a AAA game these days and not bad at all considering the level of polish the game has now.

Least impressed with Tokyo expressway at night.

your car's headlights on rival racers make it look nice, but outside of that the environments felt too static and somewhat blocky! I mean I don't expect buildings to start moving unless it's Motorstorm Apocalypse, but there's something with GT which has always made the Tokyo circuits too static and blocky. Some weather effects might make it immersive!

I don't think it's a coincidence that a large chunk of cars in this are the same models as the ones added to line up for GT6, and that's before even counting the VGTs. People really think those were built from scratch?

Those are the categories for cars.

Gr. 1 - LMP1 and Vision GT Cars.
Gr. 3 - GT3 purpose built race cars with advanced aero.
Gr. 4 - Production model cars with racing modifications.
Gr. B - Group B rally cars.
Gr. N - Production model cars which are further categorised into N100 - 1000 (the numbers after the "N" moniker denotes the horse power the cars have.
Gr. X - Category of cars which do not fit in the above categories e.g. Karts, Safety cars, some Vision GT cars etc.

Thanks makes sense! Don't know why I totally have missed their way of categorizing

The penalty system needs sorting. I was first going down a straight and got hit with a PIT and I get a 12 second penalty. Come to the end of the race the person that did it has nothing on them and a saw them do it to two other people.

It's my first time playing a Gran Turismo game and...yeah I was pretty letdown :/

This is considered fun? Controls feel Meh, wtf is the point of drifting if I can't turn corners with it? Tried learning the ropes with driving school but it's soo slow and exiting in and out to the next section is so slowwww, ui is a mess too.

Meh guess it's not a genre/or game for me.

Sounds like you'd be more interested in an arcade racer. Or something simcade mix.

Have you heard about our lord and saviour driveclub?

Don't stress man. I'm like you, can't find pleasure in sim racers, even though I love driving (and speeding) cars in real life!

Driveclub is a good alternative. As are the Motorstorm games for pure, ridiculous fun! And if you're aching for something truly original and fun that involves driving, play a Burnout game! They should really make a new one for the PS4.

Don't know if its intentional but you can reduce penalty while under braking, so even if you get a 10 sec penalty, if the circuit has some gear 1 or 2 corners, the penalty just wear off and you don't lose pace.

Honestly. It's ridiculous.

Ridiculously shit.

I love GT, but the menus have been been for a long time now.

Opinions are fine, but how is it slow to get to the next driving test? You can access the menu immediately after passing the previous one so you don't have to exit out.

The karting race feels so good. I did a qualifying lap with assists on (forgot to turn it off from yesterday when my gf played for a while). Started 18th, managed to get to 10th, then in the very last turn a stupid motherfucker run over me, threw me out of the track, I did a 720 degrees, lost some SR points for this and went back to 15th. Fuck. He tried to run over me a few turns before (the one you need to brake) but he missed me for a few cm and almost went out of track, so there is no way in this world that he could even attempt to pass me cleanly 2 turns ahead after he went completely out of the fastest line.

I am stuck at the SR C (was even D for a while yesterday) mostly because of these stupid fucker.

Gonna race in Interlagos now with my Megane GR4.

No matter how much I try to be good at racing games I always suck. I end up buying them and admiring them but never get good enough to really enjoy them.

I'm okay with high skill based games, I learn pretty quickly. Racing games have just been a thorn in my sider since forever.

I think I might be one of those who would do better with an actual racing wheel (I drive) than a controller. One of these days I might eventually be tempted to cash out for a semi-decent wheel. Not this time around though as I'm already going to wait for Sport to come down in price. The SP content is just too lite for me.

I noticed that myself but it was a kart race and they came first. I could see them most of the race and they weren't breaking, I took note of the other people that got spun out and they had penalties on them at the end as well. Can't say what they were like for the rest of the race but what I witnessed they seemed clean and only got taken out when they tried to overtake.

With a system that is intended to reward clean drivers and punish dirty drivers the exact opposite was happening from what I could see. I have also noticed it in a few other races as well but not to the same extent.

I'd like to give some impressions of these two days with the demo.
The graphics are gorgeous on my stinky base ps4 with my stinky 2011 32" tv.
The controls are really good with both the ds4 and the logitech g29, but the level of immersion using the wheel is much more than that. On the challenge with the gr.1 prototype, cutting the curbs, the wheel gives you the impression that you are brute forcing the track with sheer power. I found the feedback in general really well done, it gives you an immediate sense of presence that allows you to approach the curves at great speed intuitively. With the controller I don't have the same level of confidence, it's more difficult in general to grasp how far are the limits of the car. But once I understand that a segment can be approached with a certain speed, I can do it easily enough with both the wheel or the controller.
I never run before a Interlagos, it's a beautiful track, and in this game it's very aesthetically pleasing. Really a nice surprise.
The online experience has been good for me on sport mode, I've been put on a race an suzuka short where I was in pole and it wasn't really difficult to run conservatively, but has been fun nonetheless. On the lobby, it happened once that I was stuck with a black screen and only the on screen info and some sound worked. I had to restart the game.

There are a lot of little details that I liked, during the time trials for example, the ghost tinted in green or purple depending on whether it's loaded from an outside session or your best lap for the session, or the seat adjustments on the cockpit view, or the possibility to "buy" upgrades (power and weight reduction), in exchange for mileage points, just to say a couple I can remember now.
I think I'm sold on the game, I would have bought it anyway, but this demo showed me that it's much better of what was expecting.

Usually in any other games after completing a test, a prompt immediately pops up to go to next, this game you have to go back to a menu, then go back to another menu to select the next trial.

Also yes I did play driveclub it was fun, but it's been 3? Years since that game.

You really don't. There is an events list in the middle of the menu cluster which you can select to go to your next event straight away.

I don't understand these morons. There's a whole track to race on and they come straight for you. It makes no sense.

It's possible that they slowed down to remove the time penalty from themselves. Alternatively they might not have gotten one, hard to tell.

You are in E sportsmanship, right?

Yeah, I'm not surprised about your opponents then haha.

I hope that you can find a way out from the hells of SR.

I'm going HAM on the qualifying now to ensure I do.

43.790 on the Karts and 1:44.063 on interlagos.

I'm not touching Tokyo Expressway with a barge pole. I learnt my lesson the hard way yesterday.

With the kart race to remove 10+ seconds whilst maintaining pole is close to impossible.

I think a iracing style spotter would improve online racing significantly.

At least with this game you know that if you can find your way out of this hellish bottom SR tier there are better days ahead.

yeah i had this opinion last time around, the game looks incredible, and i can totally appreciate it as a driving simulator, but that doesn't make a fun game for me.

Honestly feel for you, GHG, seems you got hit hard with the SR system on BB Raceway, which is surprising to me because I got bumped and been [accidentally] bumping countless times on that track and on Tokyo Expressway last night but still managed to maintain an SR of B. I must have been making more ground than losing safety wise.

Hopefully you make it out of there quick time!

So if I play online without any assists, do I get matched with players who use similiar settings or do I atleast get higher price money and experience?
