Unbelievable, Star Wars is as strong as ever in the film department and we barely got one decent game yet and now this, WTF?

Where's my X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter (VR) game? Where's my Jedi Knight game?

They should have never gave EA the Star Wars game licences

1 freaking game in 4 years since the announcement, they should have put out 2 by now at least with the 3rd being Battlefront 2 this year

Not only that we havent seen anything else barely what a joke EA

Needs some GaaS hovering in the sky

Sony at least so far has been blessed along with Nintendo to have most people anticipate their SP offerings.

But there is no idea how long that will last. If you're not Uncharted, GOW, Spiderman etc it's hard to tell. But it seems Sony is decent enough with budgeting their first party studio games.

But hell even UC4 had a content roadmap. That was a GAAS service as well.

I think people "anticipate" good SP offerings on all fronts, it's just a matter of publishers being willing to accept the return they'll get. For better and for worse, EA wants continued revenue from their products more than one-time sales.

Your move, Sony. Turn The Last of Us 2 into a GaaS game. Let's get this over with so I can wallow in the memories of what this industry used to be.

Considering the micro transactions in past ND MP modes, you can bet TLOU2 MP will be that. But Sony still focuses on strong single player games, so the SP of TLOU2 is bound to be untouched

Considering that both TLOU and Uncharted 4 were GaaS, TLOU2 being GaaS wouldn't be shocking. You think this many assets and continue to add new ones for shits and giggles:

Game development has been taking longer this gen.

Our Visceral studio has been developing an action-adventure title set in the Star Wars universe. In its current form, it was shaping up to be a story-based, linear adventure game

eeeew disgusting.

It reads like he is apologizing.

WTF is this new GaaS thing i read everywhere on GAF all of the sudden?
Google Search only bought “Generally Accepted Auditing Standards”

Games As A Service. Games that operate as platforms, release DLC and microtransactions, and iterate on things like game modes and content over time versus releasing sequels and spin offs. Think PUBG, Rocket League, Overwatch.

Was she game director on Ragtag? I thought she was just the narrative lead like on Uncharted.

She was creative director, which is separate from executive producer, though I would be surprised if she was still there regardless.

You know they did all the space combat stuff for Battlefront 2, right?

I do.
I don't many "new" gamers know about them though. And no matter that, it's sad that a studio that gave us one of the biggest driving franchises of the last two gens is now left to do some work for someone else's vision.

There is a big difference between what they did with Uncharted 4 and TLOU and an actual GaaS game like Destiny. Its pretty obvious.

Oh good now they can add loot crates and a multiplayer mode because fuck single player cinematic action adventure games.

Honestly hate what this industry is becoming, more specifically the big budget titles. Loot boxes, grinding for days on end, micro transactions, list goes on forever.

Thank god there are niche titles like Ys because they do it so much better on 1/1,000th of the budget,

Ah shit I forgot respawn was working on a damn star wars game :(

I guess that means titanfall 3 (if ever it had a shot at being made) is a definite no in the next few years then. Damn

AAA single players games are basically dead, right?

One of the best selling games this year was a AAA single player game and that was exclusive to one console. Before you all spell doom and gloom just know that whenever a company focuses all their effort to chase a fad, it always ends up backfiring.

The intent is the same. I mean, the point of those things is that ND is hoping that people continue to play (and pay for) MP in TLOU and Uncharted. It's not a bad thing. GAAS is not a bad thing. Plenty of great games are GAAS games.

How daft can you be to think a fucking single player Star Wars game won't sell in this age???? Episode 7 grossed almost a billion in domestic for fuck sake.

most of the lucasarts SW games (pre EA/disney) were crap and im pretty sure all of those sold pretty well. Yes, you have to be fucking dense to think anything SW wont sell.

I bet EA was the worst decision Insomniac made, and I'm so glad they didn't have some long term obligations with them. Next up Bioware.

What is Respawn doing with them now? They are just partners and not owned right?

My interest in video games dwindles with each passing day. When sixty dollars isn’t enough anymore

Fuck EA. Seriously..

Yeah DICE is the only non sports internal studio I feel is 100% safe at EA. They release huge selling games on a regular basis.

Who knows how long that lasts but as of now they are as safe as you can get within that publisher

...and closely tracking fundamental shifts in the marketplace. It has become clear that to deliver an experience that players will want to come back to and enjoy for a long time to come, we needed to pivot the design.

Basically why spend so much on a single player game when we can change it to open world with loot boxes and microtransactions or even add multiplayer etc. Fuck EA. The worst publishers by a mile.

Cool. So we might actually get a SP Star Wars game in time for the next trilogy.

You're assuming that Disney doesn't re-up the contract, which given they've actually bragged about EA's titles a lot and how they're notable positives for Disney's revenue, is certainly not impossible.

Even good SP games can get drowned out. I mean there are a lot of games coming out these last few months.

Evil Within, Mario, AC:Origins, COD, Battlefront, GT:Sport etc. Most people are only going to pick up one or two of those games. And it'll most likely be the games with MP. And of course Mario will do well.
