IKR, don't call it anti-consumer because of the way it looks, that's silly. Call it anti-consumer because it's a noticeably cheaper looking, cost reduction model that costs $50 more than the original.

That's what I thought when I saw the slimmer XSX tbh., glad I got the OG XSX design. It's a switcheroo from last gen, because I always thought the 1S was a lot nicer looking than my VCR.

I don't think it is any better or worse than the other version of the PS5. I've grown used to the OG and would probably get used to the slim version if I got one.

I'm looking forward to the tear down of this new revision. I love my original PS5 disc edition, but these shrunken down models look really cheap budget to me. I hope the PS5 Pro has a premium look to it and nothing like the new models.

I wonder can you take the disk drive out of a disk system and turn it into a digital edition or put it into another console. Probably no reason to ever do that that but just curious .
Might make disc drive failures an easier problem to solve in the future though.

At least the disc drive will be super easy to replace now. Would have been so much easier and more cost effective to ship replacement drives for the PS2 had it been modular than to have to ship the whole thing there and back back in the day.

The reason Sony is arragont is because they stealth increased the price of the digital ps5 to $450 after the OG digital runs out of stock. Paying $80 for a Blu Ray is also absurd and the stand for the console is $30. They are putting themselves back into the PS3 era and that is not good for them to go.

$450 + $80 + $30 = $560 for the same experience as the OG PS5 with disc, if you go with the digital model. $530 for the slim disc with stand. Looks like price rises are the new price drops, at least so long as Microsoft keeps fucking things up for themselves.


If anything makes room for a $400 Super Switch. And we know how Nintendo is about price drops.

I like the XSX and XSS design but I mean they are just rectangles, how this is a "great" design ? At least the PS5 has its "personality", it doesn't look like any random electronic device. The XSX all digital 2Tb looks like a random Alexa device, I mean it's a cylinder.

I like consoles with unique look, the PS1, the PS2, the Dreamcast, the SNES (euro/jp one, sorry US forks), the N64... The 360 looked good, the fat one, in fact the PS5 kinda reminds me the 360.

Now I'm gonna post a picture of the Dreamcast just because I want it.

$80 for the disc drive isn’t terrible considering most cheap Chinese Blu-ray drives are like $50-60 and this is in a bespoke chassis with the plate needed to house it.

And what else went up exactly ? The Series X is still $499 and is actually $482 right now on Amazon for whatever weird reason. Anything else above $500 for the Series X are all bundles.
