STARFIELD |OT| 2023: A Space Toddity

Haha... Ya, that part where you put two new parts on your ship was annoying and a little frustrating to figure out how to do it.

Go complete the Freestar Ranger quest line. You get the Star Eagle ship at the end and it performs great in combat. It also helps to level up your ship to ship combat skills, as those battles at the end of the Crimson Fleet quest line are challenging.

Thanks for recommending this, I did the entire quest line over the last few days. The last two quests in it were very good. I loved the asteroid mine section, and the last big fight was nonstop action. I think I need to change the guns on the Star Eagle, I got obliterated as soon as I stepped in it and jumped to another galaxy.

Does anyone know why I get errors on the mass when I try to add something to a ship? If I have a spot available to add say, a shield, why can’t I? What is the limit on mass for? Is there a way to get around it? I’ve seen huge custom ships.

You need more landing gears. The heavier the ships the more you need.

Saw on Twitter (X 🙄) that Starfield is up on the top 20 list for games with most downloaded mods. 28.8 million downloads right now.
💪

Also, highly recommending all the ”Shapely” clothes mods if you’re not afraid of women. Go with the slim choice to keep things fairly realistic.

This Ryujin quest is pretty good so far. The only issue is its been too easy. If you're a stealth focused player this is nothing. Been pickpocketing execs and doing anything I want.

The two infiltration style missions were a couple of my favorites from the game. The first time I did them I didn't have the chameleon ability or the void power, they were reasonably difficult at that point. Now that I'm maxed out stealth wise, I can see where they'd be a lot easier outside of the robots that seem to have some type of heat vision.

Finished the Crimson Fleet quest line. I enjoyed the last section with the space fights but the last couple missions were meh as fuck. I thought the Ranger quest line was better, but the CF line did have a couple of bitchin missions.

Gotta say, the final Ryujin mission is probably the best stealth mission I've played in an RPG. Lots of subtle alternate routes. Multiple steps constantly for powering down alarms, turrets, hacking, pickpocketing ID cards, etc. I did a no detection run and didnt vent the gas to evacuate people. It took me multiple tries. Extremely fun and seemingly underrated.

Cool I haven’t done that faction yet, something new to do this weekend thanks! 🤝👍

I play concurrently on PC and Xbox, mostly PC. How does the Xbox version react if I install a mod on the PC? i.e Inventory, easy lock picking, etc.

It’s the lamest quest line in the entire game with majority of the quests being a lazy excuse for a fetch quest. Go and grab a cup of coffee. Go to HopeTech steal one thing and return. And so on. And when it finally picks up, missions are heavily scripted and don't reward thinking outside of the box. And before you know it, it's over.

I was so pissed when I was alone in a room with one security guard. I've used taser on him and it soft-lock the game because he actually supposed to get angry and go to the kitchen. Sequence breaking stuff.

Add to that boring and uninteresting characters. I can't name a single person involved in that quest line.

I honestly can't understand why are you praising it.

Oh, and the mission board stuff specific to Ryujin that you unlock is pure garbage. Garbage.

Ryujin was definitely the weakest of the faction quests, imo. I was glad to be done with it. I didn't even bother with the mission board.

Man, let me give you an example of mission board quality content. Sabotage organization. Go to location, find a computer, hack it using the mini-game, boom it's done. That's it. Using fast-travel you can complete it in seconds (not counting loading screens).

Just garbage.

Edit: and by find I mean it's marked on your HUD, you don't have to look for it. Obviously. Garbage.

Depends on the mod. Mods that add stuff will break the game. Some mods that change a setting may carry over or may not.
I wouldn't do it.

The coffee mission is a great intro. You go to pick up coffee and end up having to kill a fired employee and then go right back to delivering coffee. The kind of dark sarcastic corporate parody I'd hope to see more of.

I agree that the early missions are pretty weak. But that last mission had a ton of interesting level design and stealth options and using the amp was fun. Just stealth, hacking, lockpicking and persuasion the whole time. I enjoyed it.

Ironically, I didn't want to kill him. I failed the persuasion check and I'm not the type to re-load the game. So I decided to simply leave and run away. Guess what. You can't just leave. You can't role play in a role playing game. It's not even something that would be difficult to code or implement. It's stupid.

I cant cant comment on that really since I did want to kill him and I thought the intro was entertaining. And my stealth and persuasion are both maxed.

If you look on the bottom right side of the screen, it should show numbers regarding how much mass you have, and how much after you add something. You may be able to fix the error by adding extra engines. Works for me. Good luck!

Eat button is a nice addition that should be there from the start (Fallout 76 has it) but it only highlights how utterly useless food is in this game. 2, 4 HP for consuming a meal? Who designed that? And who approved it?

Edit: also if food is in a container you still can't consume it straight away. You have to loot it and only then you can eat it. Seriously?

Bethesda is now responding to criticism of Starfield in the Steam reviews.

It reeks of desperation.

I played Skyrim recently, just to go back to see if i was recalling it with rose tinted glasses........... i wasn't.

For those that havent played Skyrim in a long time, go back and play it for 6 hours at least, then play Starfield and see how backwards this game is compared to Skyrim.

Skyrim has genuine exploration, you are finding and discovering things that aren't rinse and repeat and you actually feel like your exploring, as opposed to Starfield where if feels like you jump from one arena to another, each planet is like a bubble, nothing feels connected or gives the feeling of genuine space exploration.

Got back to playing this yesterday after not playing it for about a month, and this game is a lot worse than I remember. The game is outdated,Ai is completely dumb, npc's randomly dissappear, and I had as much loading screens doing a mission as I did gameplay

I finished Skyrim just before starting Starfield.

My impression is, they have perfected that formula with Skyrim. I cannot imagine there is much they can do there except making same game again.

That's why they made changes to Fallout 4, and now a totally different game with Starfield.

I do feel they can achieve same level of fun with this style of game as well, need a few adjustments. Like adding quests that involve exploring planet surfaces.

Thing is that I am willing to bet that if they removed the need to leave and land on planets again and you could explore freely (with at least some more randomised content to see and interact with) and if they removed a lot of the loading screens you have breaking down the experience… if you could play That game you would come back and say how superior it actually is. We both know it would be a loooooooot better if it did not feel like fish bowls connected by small narrow doors.

If you planet hop, it will always be broken down by something.

Either you can fly a space ship, or you can do it quickly like they do it here.

I find planet hopping to be superior experience compared to exploring a single land mass. New biomes to see always is exciting.

What they need to do here, is add something to look forward to when I land on a new planet.

I think they have foundation of great franchise here. It's already quiet addicting. It does need a bit more work though.

Yeah i agree with that, i would wish for one huge update in the future (Cyberpunk 2077 style) that address' all these things.

The issue with Starfield is the outdated mechanics of the game, which don't bother me too much, however if this mega update ever comes it wont be for another 18 months at least, by then is it too late?

It worked for Cyberpunk as it has the game engine/modern mechanics backing it up.

I really hope this game does get the update's it deserves, i love Bethesda games and initial was really enjoying Starfield, but after the honeymoon period you suddenly realise the issues present in the game and it gets tiresome fast.

What do you mean by outdated mechanics?

I feel shooting in this game feels great. Same for jetpack and movement.

I have started Red Dead Redemption 2 after Starfield, and sure here I can see sloppy mechanics and unpredictable AI and cover system.

I find Starfield to be much better as far as mechanics are concerned. I could play it as a straight shooter without complaints.

I mean the Bethesda mechanics, how you can be completely taken out of the moment when NPCs or even main characters can walk into shot at what would be in any other game a narrative in game cinematic, it feels so janky and out-dated now.

It should be/needs to be more sophisticated for a 2023 game.

Yeah, nothing is scripted in their games. I think it's a philosophy they follow.

Their games are immersive when you are exploring. When you are doing quests, their animation system itself will remind you it's a game.

I'm impressed by the amount of repeat quest callbacks I keep stumbling upon. I'm at like 380 hours and just had someone flag me down on the street and wave at me to discuss a side quest I had completed 100 hours ago and add a bit more to it. It's happened more than once. Nothing major, but it's another cool way to introduce new content and connect the areas a bit.

What planet hopping? I am talking about how you need to lift off and land again to see more areas of the current planet. Stretching the physics a bit you can avoid planet hopping loading inside the same galaxy or reduce the loading screens you need to have. There are many during gameplay.

Eh, initial tile you get upon landing is big enough to add 50 hrs of content.

You won't change the game by getting rid of tile system. There is no need to move that far.

Moving to a different planet, I am already expecting transition, their method works fine. If you want seamless transition, you will be sitting through a longer flight.

The ship can travel… faster. Sure not realistic with today’s tech, but… psst… grav drives are not either.
