PS5 Pro developer verdict: ‘I didn’t meet a single person that understood the point of it’

I mean didn't Nintendo just get away with a Switch that can't switch and an Oled model that's just a screen upgrade ?

True.
Sony should get a pass for the ps5 short that brings less to the table than an oled screen and the ps5 pro that may or may not bring any noticeable yields to most games.

<--- Probably gonna upgrade my GPU again even if my CPU is quite underpowered.(13th and 14th gen CPUs didn't get the price cuts I was expecting)
Sony I got your back do you.

So much wrong in just a few words....

- It is coming out
- It has nothing in common with PSVR2 that is a completely different platform that needs DEDICATED games
- SUPPORT IS MANDATORY

Thought i mentioned a Sony requirement? I do wonder what that would be though? Would it just be adding a 3rd or 4th settings tweek that adds more frames or high resolution? Would it require changes in graphical settings such as textures, shadows or mandate raytracing? Will there be a mandate that the game not be made with PS4 in mind? Just questions in my end.. but i dont have much knowledge on development.

I just know i have a high-end 1080p tv and the difference in design and graphics from PS4 to PS5 is negligible on most games ive played. Loading has been the single most and nearly sole benefit of this gen for me so far.

Then why most games IQ looks garbage and runs like ass too? Skill issue? It wouldnt be needed if we'll get optimized games and not early access trash for 70 nowadays.

It'll be supported the same way the PS4 Pro was supported

Seems like the negative responses are probably coming from devs who just don’t want to deal with an additional sku.

Not anyone’s problem, they’ve should’ve made the most out of the og/slim. Unfortunately, a lot devs haven’t been up to par so voila… an extra, stronger ps5 to develop for so you can actually meet the right standard.

It will run all the games better than the regular PS5 so its already a success. If you dont want it just stick to the base PS5. Both sides win :)
That’s on the consumer end. Which is 100% accurate. As a dev, I can see their point though. Especially the extra super lazy ones. They have to go from making 2 poorly optimized ps5 options, to 4 poorly optimized ps5 options.

I’d like to remember that a dev is anyone involved in a game. Most prominent devs are game designers that have somewhat a tech background but not necessarily.

I know it is "optional" and you don't have to buy it, but I think it is not worthless to consider its purpose. If it does not really enhance our gaming experience, it is but a marketing gimmick even if it is a quality piece of hardware.

The baseline for third-party games is the Series S. As of right now, there isn't any single announced AAA 1st party that is likely to really push the envelope on the console hardware, no Naughty Dog or Tsushima sequel. Insomniac cranks out consistently pretty good-looking and well-optimised games, and I doubt Wolverine is going to be any different.

Is the Pro going to help optimization issues with brute force? I assume not. It may increase frames and pixels though. Is it enough to justify its existence?

Why 2 and 4? I thought 1 for PS5 and 1 for PS5Pro?

Yeah yeah, fancying hardware specs is the easy part, show us the games, I'm tired of Remasteres one after the other, if it's a multi billion dollars industry and unsustainable at the same time then our eyes on those greedy publishers, they can't fool us, we know they could make another 360 or another PS2.

The point is to upgrade the offer of 2019 hardware that came out a year later than it should have (end 2020) and that cant offer 4K and 60 fps at the same time. The hardware of the Pro but more importantly its super sampling , will .

we need a hope of playing GTA6 on 60 fps

If you dont need it, just dont buy it when its out

Devs:
"I don't even see the point of this"

Same devs:
"So anyway here is our newest game at 720p upscaled with FSR and running at rock solid 42fps"

Devs are in way over their head in general with the graphic advancements. Moving away from inhouse engines to Unity/Unreal has probably dumbed them down even more and they have no idea how to fix performances.

Nintendo was right all along to slow the fuck down, it's just that marketing teams want the best graphics possible, and only a few studios in the world can deliver an overall package of good graphics but not shit gameplay, only a few.

There's obviously no need for it whatsoever. Its existence is completely and utterly baffling.

Why would anyone not be happy with PS3 level image quality?

The point is to do what the PS5 does but better; and for people who care about that to buy it. I really don't get why so many are playing dumb around it.

"But we should use the PS5 to its full potential first!" .....well even if you use the PS5 to its full potential, the Pro would then be better relative to that. This isn't rocket surgery.

Frankly, the majority of games have crap image quality and the RT capabilities are inherently poor. This should provide an avenue to fix those issues and those of us who care can pay the premium; and those who don't still have their base PS5. No one's gonna come and take that away.

I mean we don't need consoles or videogames in the first place anyway.

You buy it if you want it. It's better hardware and it's not mandatory to play any PS5 game. Better resolution, better framerates, better ray tracing. That's all.

So much drama over nothing lmao.

Reminds me of a reporter questioning Jerry Seinfeld:

Do you really need 40 Porsches?

I don't NEED any of them...

What I don't understand is why there is so much problem with PS5 pro, every year the hardware of PC, mobile phones, TV, etc. is updated without a problem but a PS5 improved 4 years ago seems to make no sense, because looking at the resolutions of certain games to reach 60fps on PS5 and Series X, I think it makes all the sense in the world.

I've been saying this as long as we have been talking about PS5 Pro. PS4 Pro made sense - 4K TVs were coming out and this device was the "get great 4K visuals on your TV" (ok AKSHULLY it was not, but it did deliver a great improvement in image quality).

What is this? The "slightly higher performance on performance mode but you need devs to add ray tracing to performance mode to take advantage of it even though that will kill performance mode on PS5" machine? It's a tough sell. I do not think that the specs on this machine are that impressive or that much of a jump over the PS5, and definitely won't be the total solution to fix the problems with performance and IQ we have seen, just because it's not strong enough. We are not getting a "4k/60fps/Ray tracing" machine here, because even the 4090 isn't doing that really.

I think 3rd party support outside of "supports PSSR" and maybe 2-3 extra bounces in ray tracing is going to be limited.

Even that ain't nothing. As long as we get more 60fps options with this then it will be worth it, imo.

PS4 Pro made sense, as it went up to 4K (with HDR) from 1080p. Plenty of people had 4K TVs (some with HDR) by then and noticed an immediate benefit - I know they patched in HDR to PS4 later.

PS5 Pro may offer a similar benefit - albeit it is tricky to see what that is yet. I guess if it means 4K at 60fps rather than all these compromised "performance" modes, there will be a market for it.

My PS4 Pro made a noise like a hoover so I had some buyer's remorse despite the nicer graphics. I may wait on this one.

Thanks deveopers for stating the obvious. So many are salivating for this pro console while this gen hasn’t even started yet properly. Still playing mostly lastgen games with higher res and framerate

Some people have a little more money to drop on their toys. The ps4 pro landed in a spot where it wasn't really worth the extra $100 for people on more of a budget, but was worth it for people who spend a lot more on games.

As for making development harder: lol. You can do a super lazy pass on a pro console and still get something that is meaningfully better than the base game. Equating it to the series s is a massive stretch.
