Penny-Arcade: "Marketers of the Avenger Controller are thieves and liars".

gabe's latest tweet refers to the guy threatening "you'll hear from my lawyer" or whatever, so I'm guessing he doesn't back down soon.

Not soon, but it'll happen. I guarantee that PA has a better lawyer than this guy has, and probably more money to throw at any lawsuit. He pretty much can't win on merits, and he can't win by drowning them in legal documents, either.

Costumer support seems pretty easy, be clear and talk politely to people ...

:/

Then his diary goes as follows:

Dear Diary,
Today someone was mean to me. I hate this job. :(

Dear Diary,
I hate everyone I have to interact with. I think this job is making me insane!

Dear cuntpaper,
FUCK FUCK BITCHES AND WHORES!

I simply don't understand how this man is employed. This can't be the first time he has treated a customer this way, unless he just recently completely lost his mind. When you represent a product or a service to a market you do not treat your customer this way, at all. Every single thing about this man's string of responses was incredibly off base and unprofessional.

The very first email response set the tone perfectly for the events that followed: "Dec 17". Really? Concise (not in the good way), vague, and with a tone of "I don't have time for you". None of those qualities suit customer service.

If he doesn't get fired, at least his business will likely suffer from this whole mess. What a complete moron.

And I just realized this man is 38 and has a son...dear god.

ROFL!

What cause? Defamation of character? Yeah, that's not going to happen.

I'd imagine any claim to that would be thrown out based merely off him giving permission repeatedly about this being shared for everyone to see (free PR!).

I need more coffee to go along with this wild ride.

This guy is treating his customers like the Penny Arcade guys treated Jesse Thorn.

Everyone involved - Company owner, Penny Arcade Guy #2, even the original customer, with that essay-long response and "Welcome to the internet" - sounds like just the biggest douchebag.

This is all looking very familiar to me. "On the boat from China" and "stuck in customs" is code for "I'm stalling while I steal all of your preorder money and disappear" Offering a 100 percent discount coupon on a future item is another sign of that.

Boy this guy and "his" company sound like real pieces of shit. I'd never heard of the Avenger before but I sure as hell wouldn't buy from these scumbags now.

This thread makes for a good PSA.

The guy is right, about 10x more people know about the product.

Don't see people cancelling their order for something where there isn't an alternative product?

Apparently this isn't the first time something like this has happened with our boy Paul.

To be fair, the guy did much better at keeping his cool here. Paul wasn't exactly the sweetest bunny, but I appreciate he had simply run out of patience with all the delays etc. still surprised they even offered the free controller so early on. Anyway, I just think this dude is a bit arrogant and extremely narcissistic, but I'm sure this episode will teach him some humble pie.

I wwebsite as on the internet when you were a sperm in your daddys balls and before it was the internet.

Quote of the year!

I actually have no problem with the controller stuff and even the price is probably about right.. but this guy is enough of an ass-hat that I would slap anyone I see using it.

This bloke reminds me of that character portrayed by Ricky Gervais, David Brent from "The office" BBC show; it's such a total idiot I almost feel sorry for him, it's laughable and pathetic at the same time.

How this bloke was put in charge of customers support, what with his unfriendly trolling attitude and his awfully bad grammar, is just beyond me.

I feel a bit sorry for the people who developed the controller. It gets shit on by the internet because of 1 bad PR guy.

To be fair, this is the second occasion of this same guy flipping his shit on a customer. If they don't spin this into actual good PR for them by canning their current marketing company/team/guy-in-the-basement, I can't say I necessarily blame that there's spillover onto the product itself.

It's unmerited, sure, but they do need to take care of the situation somehow.

Especially since it started out as a controller to help disabled people, I believe.

As far as I know, it started off (and still is) marketed as a controller meant for maximizing l33t sk1llz performance. It has the secondary effect of aiding disabled gamers but that never seemed to be a part of the controller's marketed gimmick.

Perhaps they hired a NEOGAF poster to do PR? Just sayin'. LOL

From Ocean Marketing's "About Us" page:

1. Our clients' interests come first. Our experience demonstrates that if we serve our clients with excellence, our success follows.

2. Integrity and honesty are at the core of our business values. We expect our leaders and people to maintain high ethical standards in everything they do, both in their work for Ocean Marketing and in their personal lives.

6. We feel great pride in the professional quality of our work. We have an uncompromising determination to achieve excellence in everything we undertake.

etc

I feel like N-Control should have researched Ocean Marketing a little more thoroughly before hiring them (unless they got the okay from the Mayor of Boston or Cliffy B). Clearly OM's business practice does not follow as advertised.

I feel bad that their controller's business will likely be harmed by this, but at the same time N-Control really should have stepped up to the plate and severed ties with OM.

gabe's latest tweet refers to the guy threatening "you'll hear from my lawyer" or whatever, so I'm guessing he doesn't back down soon.

In fact that is what people usually say right before they are never heard from again.

This is far worse than the Duke Nukem twitter fiasco, and that guy got fired. No way this ends well for this douchebag.

People keep saying this but I have yet to find any evidence to support it. How does it help disabled people exactly?

edit - Awww shit now I do feel bad for the inventor =/ http://miami.cbslocal.com/2011/04/15/inventive-teacher-gives-disabled-student-control/

It doesn't (or it wasn't meant to). It's a controller to help people play COD better. You can use the face buttons while keeping your thumb on the right stick and triggers.

The fact that some handicapped people might be able to utilize it isn't a selling point that I've seen.

The question that nobody seems to be able to answer is if this controller is somehow intrinsically tied to this guy who has ins with the Mayor of Boston or if the company that makes the controller just hired a terrible PR guy.

I honestly can't fathom why a company wouldn't have researched more when hiring the lifeblood of your company (your PR).

Did you read the article? The guy made it to help this disabled kid, but then went on to sell it to a wider audience including 'pro gamers.'

Also the company that makes the controller is N-Control, this asshole is the CEO of Ocean Marketing. Different companies. N-Control needs to drop his ass though.

Wow, that guy completely lost it. The multiple "hell yeahs" cracked me up. I love all the backlash this guy is getting. After dealing with horrible customer service agents a lot lately it's good to see someone being held responsible for sucking at/not doing their job.

Well, they did research Ocean Marketing. Unfortunately they hired Ocean Marketting instead.
