I remember during the gravemind sequences in Halo 3 your FOV would get huge, then it would go back and I would always think it went way too far in.

hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahaha i hate you so much!

That 60fps sure gives COD an advantage over Halo doesn't it?
60fps doesn't really help games, it's just something people moan about. Halo looks perfectly smooth and fine, so do tons of other games that are at 30fps.

But of course my opinion is different than yours so I am Adolf Hitler.

Good day everyone, no word for real time cinematics or prerendered videos in campaign?

Actually I returned to play some SP games and after playing with 60 fps games and you got that slowness with Borderlands or RDR, its not a must but its a different experience.

Back from road trip to Orlando....I guess didn't miss anything other than that new gun sounds video.

Looks good to me, weapons sound great from what I can tell. I want to use that rail gun like right now, that LMG on the other hand I'm not so sure about. We shall see.

I've played CoD before and in all honesty, I don't see a difference in the FPS.

so you hate him because of an opinion on a video game?
I'm not sure how you're not comprehending what I'm saying here.

-He/she said something dumb (my opinion)
-I hate him/her for it
-Yes, it was about a video game
-I'm beginning to dislike you for being slow about things and making me explain it in elementary school detail
-Calm down, the word hate is a joke. I just thought it was ridiculous. Your ArchedThunder defense boner can go back in your pants now.

I honestly don't see how it's dumb. 60fps doesn't make a difference to me unless it's a racing game or a fighting game. Most 60fps first person shooters make me nauseous.

But it does.... It reduces input lag.

Yeah, CoD's aiming is infinitely smoother than Halo's and that can be put down to FPS differences.

Plenty to see:

It'd be nice if they could push the HUD elements out to the extreme sides of the screen, but I believe there's some sort of Microsoft requirement for where things can be.
I believe they place those items away from the borders because some televisions suffer from overscan. My LCD HDTV has that problem. I'm grateful because some of the HUD elements would be cut off on my screen.

THis is kinda like the people who don't see the difference between DVD and Blu-Ray.

"Good enough"

"Seems fine to me"

Unless you are watching on a large TV there is no real difference, And honestly it still isn't a massive difference if you are, yes it is noticeable but it all it really boils down to is making it look a little smoother and cleaner. It mainly just makes you feel better about your purchase because it is "better".

Assault Rifle being so powerful wouldn't be much of an issue if the melee wasn't so god-damn powerful. The AR rush and melee has been one of the most awful things in the games.
So bad. I hate the close range weapons mentality (most prevalent in H3) of shooting just to get to a melee. With the aim assist and hitboxes for melee through the roof, that was very unsatisfying combat. It looks like weapons like the AR and Storm Rifle in H4 have killing power up close, not injure enough to get a melee lunge power, which will make CQC a better experience.
People that go into Rumble Pit as a party to play Team Slayer are the worst.

I wish we knew what the finalized control schemes for Halo 4 are. Based on the ones we've seen so far, it looks like Recon is the way to go so I'm trying to learn Recon in Reach. Needless to say, muscle memory is a bitch. I also keep hitting B to reload which is really annoying and doesn't make any sense because I was using Default before where reload was on X. My Bumper Jumper heritage is showing through.

I think learning Recon will be better in the long run though. More consistency between games. I was using Bumper Jumper in 3/ODST and Default in Reach before, made switching between games confusing.
Yeah it would be nice to know the finals, because I got to pick one for H4, and if I knew maybe I could start training one similar on Reach. /entitledneed (seriously though, it would be cool to see the final ones 314i)
So many FOV experts up and at them this morning.

The FOV in Halo 4 is not less than Reach's. As far as I know, it's still 78.

Very good news, thanks for clarifying.

That's a big ol' sniper in that case!

I wonder how they're going to 'balance' Sprint + Thruster + speed boost + Sword?

Also, less than three months to go and we still don't know how camo has changed from the execrable Reach version in order to make it viable in a Halo videogame. This concerns me. Actually, I'm far more pensive about the Armour Ability 'sandbox' than the weapon sandbox.

For a long time I never really got the whole 30/60 debate, but I never played 60 FPS games with regularity. When CoD4 came out, I poopsocked it for a while, when I eventually gravitated back to Halo 3, the first time I played it I thought my Xbox was broken. It literally looked like it was moving in slow motion & was very choppy, lol.

It doesn't bother me if I play only Halo, but when I go from like WoW/D3(D3 isn't optimized that greatly, but it's still 60 most of the time for me), and I go back to Reach I still get that feeling of like I'm stuck in mud.

TLDR; If they only play 30 FPS games, they probably truly believe there isn't much, if any, of a difference.

Bull

Shit

This is why 30fps will be the standard for next-gen. Mothafuckas actually believe this shit. "good enough", "no difference"

I've gotten that feeling too, but once you get readjusted it doesn't really make a difference.

Yeah, people can only see up to 24fps anyway.

I suppose it depends on your definition of 'need'. I think 60 fps is really a requirement for racing games and fighters, the sensation of speed and fluid movement are just not the same. But I'd rather have what Halo brings to the table in terms of visuals - skyboxes, huge environments, etc. - and underlying simulation and AI than have the bump to 60 fps.

I'd love to have both, but Halo doesn't need 60 fps. (What it needs is a rock-solid frame rate.)

Jesus fuck Halo Reach input lag is ~100ms, CoD is roughly ~67ms. Do the math holy shit.

Where are you getting these numbers from? Not saying I don't believe them but I thought input lag varied mostly as a factor of the TV and controller you are using.

I use a Asus monitor for this reason and it is infinitely better than my regular TV. I find Halo to be unplayable now on my TV.

Yes, but it would be nice to not have to readjust and just have every game be 60.

Like Ghaleon said though, you're not going to have 60 FPS and still retain a lot of what makes Halo, Halo.

The same could be said of 8 bit graphics. This is a terrible argument.

Two completely different arguments bud.

If every game was 60fps I probably would stop playing some games, like I said some 60fps games make nauseous.

This.

And also this is an argument similar to the traditional film framerate versus the interpolation of 120hz tvs. A lot of people actually appreciate the fewer frames because it gives things a cinematic quality. When you inject the extra frames, people start saying it looks artificial, or too close to real life. (yes, these are actual arguments made by people)

The FOV does seem a little constrained, but that's probably part of a balancing act with movement and turn speed to make the game feel quicker; the wide FOV in Reach, much as I like it, contributes to the sense of sluggishness.

Usually a higher FoV makes the game look faster. So it wouldnt really make sense for H4 to use same as Reach then.

Please dont say this, this is one of the worst Halo defense quotes I hear. Any human being is capable and sees more than 24 fps everyday especially when driving.

Go here and then stop saying you cant see a difference.

Digital Foundry does these with every new release, and yes believe it. Arched keeps claiming there is no difference, which couldn't be farther from the truth. It is not his opinion, input lag is real, and CoD which runs at 60fps clearly has less input lag than halo reach.
