Wii U Virtual Console development underway, titles will be playable using GamePad only

Polygon:
Development on a Virtual Console of downloadable titles from older systems is currently underway for the Wii U, Nintendo confirmed with Polygon today.

"We do not have any specifics to share at this time," a representative for Nintendo said when asked when we can expect the Wii U version and what platforms the library will cover. "However, we are moving ahead with development of a Virtual Console for Wii U, too, and we plan to make it so you can play it on the Wii U GamePad alone."

This has been known for ages and it's painfully obvious that it means you'll be able to play on the Gamepad, not that it will be your only option.

Yeah.

As I read it, it means that they are doing efforts so that Virtual Console could be played also on the Gamepad, without need to TV. But can also play on TV.

Well, the title can still work if you switch "will" with "can", if a simple edit will work best.

I just want to know if I can import the games I already got on Wii. Do that, and I'll be VERY HAPPY. Force me to rebuy, and I'm not even touching unless they get exclusives (well, stuff that didn't appear on the original VC) or the next Nintendo console confirms carry over for native play.

The internals of the GamePad seem to consist of just a controller, decent screen, great wireless chip, and a universal remote. So no, definitely not, and any thoughts like this should've been stomped out months ago.

You can play vc apgames on tv on wiiu at the moment. So taking that out would be stupid. Just sayin. So yeah its an option obviously

I used the title of the article and did not realize it could cause some confusion as I was not confused myself. If a mod want to edit it...?

The title of this thread (and the original article) is confusing. Judging from the context, it seems like they mean that someone could optionally play the game using just the GamePad alone (without needing to use the TV), not that the games could only be played that way.

Nintendo needs to work out a way of allowing people who bought Wii Virtual Console games to use them with the Wii U Virtual Console. If they're going to require users to rebuy Virtual Console games in order to get the benefits of Wii U hardware, then that's going to be a huge problem.

As I said in another thread I don't think even Nintendo is that crazy.

Guys use your fuckin heads, christ. Why would Nintendo make it so its only on the gamepad? Will the TV play a trailer for Wii U music while you're playing VC games, or will it run both gamepad/tv. Which do you fuckin think Gaf?

Still irrelevant without increased render resolutions and stuff. More so if PAL regions get their same shitty versions again.

Yeah, gamepad only would be a horrible decision on their part. I highly doubt Nintendo would be that stupid. That being said, I would love to see Gamecube downloads since the WiiU does not support GCN discs.

serious, most misleading thread title in awhile. the generally accepted abbreviation is VC too anyway.

also, old news, they mentioned all this in a Japan Direct before launch.
